Lyudmila Evgenyevna Belousova was a legendary Soviet pair skater who achieved success through hard work. She won Olympic gold medals in pair skating in 1964 and 1968, as well as multiple World and European championships between 1965-1968. She started skating relatively late at age 16 and met her future husband and skating partner Oleg Protopopov in 1954. Together they won numerous national, European, and world championships, including the USSR championship on their tenth attempt. Belousova's story and example of perseverance inspired the presenter to never give up and try again, even after defeat.
