Biography

• Konstantin Tszyu was born on September 19, 1969 in
Serov, a small industrial town with a population of around
100 thousand people, located in Sverdlovsk region. His
father worked at the steel mill, and his mother was a nurse.
When Konstantin was nine years old, his father felt that an
infinite energy of his son need some way out. He brought
him into a Boxing local youth center. «Most of the guys in
the section were about four years older than I am, " recalls
Konstantin. But soon he began to win, and spend 250 days of
the year in the national team training camp.
• Starting participate in the competitions Konstantin
almost immediately achieved good results: he became
the champion of city, district and a region. In 1985 he
won the all-Russian youth games. In 1986 and 1987, he
also became the champion of the USSR among juniors,
and in 1989, 1990 and 1991 he won gold medals on the
Championships of the USSR among adults. In
international competitions Konstantin began to take
part in 1984. He had prizes from Junior and adult
European and world Championships. He won the
European Championships in 1989 and 1991, and
Goodwill Games in Seattle. Konstantin had 282 battles
and won the victory in 270 of them.

During Amateur sports Kostya won the following medals and
titles:
Silver medal at the world championship among juniors in Cuba
(1987)
Gold medal of Junior European championship in Denmark (1986)
Master of sports (1991)
In 1978 Kostya entered the ring in Serovskaya youth center for
the first time. . After months of hard training he had the first
victory. He became the winner of the first all-Russian youth
games in 1985, the winner of thev championship of the USSR
among juniors in 1986 and 1987, the finalist of the championship
of the USSR in 1988 and he was a champion of the USSR in 19891991.
Since 15 years Kostya Tszyu became involved in international
competitions. It was the most interesting period in the sports life.
In 1990 he was awarded the title of Honored master of sports of
the USSR.
