Welcome to Mrs. Bown’s Open House Third Grade At AWE
Hello! My name is… I am a mother of two boys. I am a marine wife. I have been at AWE since 2002. I received my degree from ECU, and I am nationally certified. I like to have fun, joke around, and see my students feel good about themselves as they succeed!
Third Grade is… A transitional year because your child will learn more responsibility, have letter grades, and become more independent. There is more academic accountability. Gateway year (EOG) Full of significant life skills in all areas (multiplication, reading comprehension, and communication skills)
Reading Third grade focuses upon reading comprehension more so than in the previous grades. Initial reading level will be determined within the first two weeks of school. Vocabulary practice, guided reading, reading hw, reading longer texts like chapter books, and reading comprehension sheets are used to build comprehension.
Behavior Policy I am really big on responsibility, respect, and fairness. I will model these daily and treat my students with the up most respect. I do not tolerate disruptions to the point that other children cannot learn.
Behavior Policy If there should be a situation arise, I will provide a warning. If it continues, I will ask the student to sign the “log” and an “Oops Note” to be sent home as well as serve silent lunch. If a child has money for a treat when serving silent lunch he or she is asked to use it a different day. (new school policy) If it continues, the child will “bounce” to another third grade class or have a “time-out”, call a parent, and have to walk the track at recess. If it still is an issue, the child will be sent to the office. If behavior is a constant issue or is serious, I will be in contact with you and may skip right to using the office.
Homework Homework Policy: In order to teach responsibility and to be fair, I do not allow children to "make-up" homework if it is not completed or if it is forgotten at school. The consequence for incomplete homework is silent lunch and completing an Oops note so that you are aware of it.
