My Approach to Education

• Objectives:
– We will take your previous knowledge and apply it to new techniques as you
continue to grow in your mathematics journey.
– Expectations for you:
– Daily bell work and class participation
– Homework
– Unit quizzes and tests
– Make sure to complete homework

Welcome Students!
• During the 5th grade we continue to build on previous knowledge and
add the next level of critical thinking.
• We will continue with multiplication and division:
– Learning concepts and basic mechanics
– We will learn factoring and recognizing squares
– Understand Greatest Common Factors and Least Common Factors
– Identify and utilize rules of divisibility
• We will working as individuals and groups to apply new concepts to
solve problems.
Curriculum Goals
• We will also look at different careers and where math is utilized within
those careers.
• What can you do to help?
– While you are out and about look for places you use math each day
– Review weekly lesson plans posted on my website
– Contact me with any concerns you may have with your grade
Curriculum Goals Continued
• Grading
– Tests will have 50% of the total grade
– Quizzes will have 25% of the total grade
– Homework and Do Now bell work will hold 25%
• Homework
– Homework will be given twice a week.
– Any classroom work not completed will also be expected to be completed at home.
• On my site you will see the dates for progress reports and report cards.
• Please utilize your ActiveStudent site to follow your student’s progress.

Class Rules
• There is a dress code we will abide by
– Have a clean neat appearance free of offensive logos
– Tuck in your shirts and wear a belt
• Students will need a pass to enter class if they are tardy
– You will need to present a signed entrance pass from your previous teacher or the office.
• For excused absences, students will have two days to make up their work
– Upon returning with your excuse, you will need to collect the missed work from the folders for
your class.
• Hall Pass
– Anytime you must leave the class you need to obtain permission and a hall pass.
