- 1. Film Certificates Megan Lewis
- 2. Universal – Suitable for All • Universal certificate generally means it’s suitable for anyone over the age of 4. although the bbfc can’t predict accurately what will upset children. Universal films tend to be childrens or family movies.
- 3. Parental Guidance - PG • Parental guide is general viewing which may include scenes that could be unsuitable for young children. Family films are usually of a PG certification.
- 4. 12A • This means children under the age of 12 can only watch in the cinema if accompanied by an adult as could contain scenes which parents may find unsuitable for them. 12A’s are usually films with small clips of mild violence or scenes of a sexual nature.
- 5. 12 • 12 means that only people 12 years or older can watch this film in a cinema or rent it out.
- 6. 15 • Simply means no one under the age of 15 can see this film anywhere or rent it out. Most thrillers will probably be a 15.
- 7. 18 • An 18 rating means it’s only suitable for adults because the content of it isn’t at all suitable for anyone under that age. 18’s will tend to be very rude comedies or gory horror films.
- 8. R18 • R18 films is a certificate for particular genres like sex videos or strong fetish material films. Films of this certificates must be shown in licensed cinemas and must be sold in licensed sex shops.
