Mother Teresa was a Roman Catholic nun who lived most of her life in India helping the poor. She experienced a calling from God in 1946 to help the poor in Calcutta. She started her own order called the Missionaries of Charity and opened her first hospice, converted from a temple, to care for the sick and dying living in poverty. Even after her death in 1997 her order continued their charitable work, demonstrating the lasting impact of Mother Teresa's mission.
