Mother Teresa of Calcutta was a Catholic nun and missionary who dedicated her life to serving the poor in India. She was born in Albania in 1910 and moved to India in 1928, where she joined the Sisters of Loreto. In 1946, she founded the Missionaries of Charity order to care for the poor and sick in Kolkata. Over the following decades, she expanded her order across India and the world, establishing homes and hospices. Mother Teresa received numerous honors for her humanitarian work, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. She died in 1997 after dedicating her life to serving "the unwanted, the unloved, the uncared for."
