The Battle of Lexington and Concord occurred on April 19, 1775 in Massachusetts. British troops were sent to seize arms and arrest rebel leaders in the colonies. Paul Revere rode through towns warning that the British were coming. On April 19th, British troops confronted 70 minutemen led by Captain Parker in Lexington, where the first shots of the Revolutionary War were fired. The British then moved on to Concord but were attacked by colonial militias and forced into a retreat back to Boston, marking the start of the war for American independence.
