Book Report On The Book The Night
Today is September 1st, 1939 in Holland. Right now I m going to be writing a book, it is going to
be really good. I wish it would be published so that lots of people could read it and enjoy it. Once I
m finished with my book I will lend a copy to my good friends the Franks. The Franks are, Otto
Frank, Edith Frank, Margot Frank, and Anne Frank. So it s 1:00 in the afternoon and while I was in
the middle of writing my book I was interrupted by a loud, BANG! Then there were even more
loud noises and I started to think that they were gunshots, so I looked at my window and i saw a
Jew laying on the ground dead and next to him was a Nazi with a rifle. I quickly ran over to the
Frank s House to see if they heard the shots and they did. Every single one of us started
wondering why they would kill Jews. We knew it was because of Adolf Hitler, he is in control of
the Nazis. Everyday now for the past week there has been at least one killing of a Jew. I started
to think that we were going to be in a war with the Germans. The next day seven Jews were shot
and killed and lots of people were being taken to a place called Concentration Camps. It is a
horrible place, they hardly feed you, it is just a complete disaster. The Franks are going into this
hideout called the Secret Annex, the Secret Annex is hidden in Otto Franks business place. The
Secret Annex entrance is covered by a moving bookshelf. Also I have to take care of my family
too, my son and my husband. So everyday someone has

Personal Narrative On Catcher In The Rye
IF YOU really want to know, the first thing you d probably want to hear about is what happened
to me while I was at that goddam place and what they did to me, and what happened between my
parents and me and all that crap, but I d rather not go into it. To tell the truth, that stuff made no
difference on me. And besides, my parents would be in way over their heads if I told you anything
personal about them. They re as touchy as hell, they are. What I will tell you about is what
happened after I left that goddam place, after that sonuvabitch finally let me out.
The day I left that goddam place, that one psychoanalyst kept on bringing up the subject of
school. Try hard, son. You ve got a bright mind! Learn to use it! Be a good boy and go back... Show

I hung up, but not before I told Jane that I was coming home.
I got home, and there was my mother, crying. That was helluva sight. That was the only time I d
ever see my mother cry. In 26 goddam years, that was the only time. She didn t even cry at Allie s
goddam funeral.
Holden! I turned around. Jane Gallagher was running towards me. She looked great as hell. Oh,
Holden! It s been so long! I ve missed you!
I gave her a kiss on the cheek. I probably would ve done more, but I was too jittery. When d Phoebe
go missimg? I was getting really nervous.
Well, I heard the poilce here early on this morning. Holden, you should really talk to your mother.
You re the only person who can calm her down...and you re probably the only person who can
figure out where Phoebe is.
I didn t want to, but I talked to my mother. For Jane, though. I felt like I owed her. I don t know
why. I was a madman, I really was.
I don t want go over the whole damn conversation again, but my mother pretty much just told me
that Phoebe hadn t been kidnapped, like I d thought, she d actually run away. I was mad as hell
when I heard that, but I wasn t much surprised. Phoebe s a smart kid.

L Г©lГЁve risque plus l Г©chec scolaire.

ASSIGNMENT 1 CHAPTER 1 1.12) 1. Stealing or copying a user s files: writing over another
program s (belonging to another user or OS) area in memory; 2. Using system resources (CPU,
disk space) without proper accounting; causing the printer to mix output by sending data while
some other user s file is printing. Probably not, because any protection scheme invented by a
human can also be broken and more the complex more is difficult it is to be confident of its correct
implementation. 1.15) Special hardware can differentiate the multiple processors, or the software

Increased through put: By increasing the number of processors, we expect to get more work
done in less time. The speed up ratio with N processors is not N, however; rather, it is less than
N. When multiple processors cooperate on a task, a certain amount of overhead is incurred in
keeping all the parts working correctly. This overhead, plus contention for shared resources,
lowers the expected gain from additional processors. Similarly, N programmers working closely
together do not produce N times the amount of work a single programmer would produce. 2.
Economy of scale: Multiprocessor systems can cost less than equivalent multiple single
processor systems, because they can share peripherals, mass storage, and power supplies. If
several programs operate on the same set of data, it is cheaper to store those data on one disk
and to have all the processors share them than to have many computers with local disks and
many copies of the data. 3. Increased reliability. If functions can be distributed properly among
several processors, then the failure of one processor will not halt the system, only slow it down.
If we have ten processors and one fails, then each of the remaining nine processors can pick up a
share of the work of the failed processor. Thus, the entire system runs only 10 percent slower, rather
than failing

Ellison Onizuka Major Accomplishments
Ellison Onizuka was an Asian American astronaut that worked on the Discovery and Challenger
missions. He was born on June 24, 1946 in Kealakua, Hawaii. As a child he picked coffee beans
to make money for his family. He went to the University of Colorado and was in their Air Force
ROTC program and studied aerospace engineering. Ellison Onizuka impacted space exploration
by becoming the first Asian American in space, working on the IUS on the Discovery mission,
and the tragic fate of the Challenger mission. Onizuka s first major accomplishment was
becoming the first Asian American in space. Onizuka became the first Asian American in space
in January of 1985 when he joined the crew of the Discovery for the shuttle program s first
Department of Defense mission (Encyclopedia.com, 2018). Onizuka was the type of person that
never forgot where he came from. He remembers being a little kid in Hawaii and dreaming of
becoming an astronaut. He feels he can have an impact on the next generation of young Hawaiians
and minorities around the world. That they can become something even when the odds seem low.

With the completion of this flight he logged 74 hours in space (Er.jsc.nasa.gov,2018). This
included 48 orbits around the Earth. Onizuka was in space for just over three days. It s fascinating

A Research Study On Mining Water
Here in the U.S mining uses 4,020 million gallons per day, out of that 4 million + gallons 86% of it
comes from surface and groundwater. To put this in percpective if you were a swimming pool
builder and a customer asked you to build a pool that would hold 3.5 million gallons you would
need to build a pool about 950 feet long (almost as long as 3 football fields), 175 feet wide, and 10
feet deep. That s a lot of water!
Mining water is water used for the extraction of minerals that may be in the form of solids, such
as iron, coal, gravel and sand or liquids, such as crude petroleum and natural gas. Mining
withdrawals are considered self supplied water as freshwater or saline water. A recent study here in
the U.S revealed withdrawals from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevada, Florida, Ohio, Arizona, and Pennsylvania accounted for 52 percent of fresh groundwater
withdrawals. Oil and gas operations in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Wyoming and California were
responsible for the large saline groundwater withdrawals in those states because saline water is a
byproduct of mining operations. The use of water in mining has the potential and has been known
to affect the quality of surrounding surface water and groundwater. In response to environmental
concerns and government regulations, the mining industry worldwide increasingly monitors water
discharged from mine sites and has implemented a number of management strategies to prevent
water pollution. One such strategy is the use of remote sensing to assess impact of mining activities
on land and water resources.
Environmental impact assessment is now an integral part of mining operations. Remote sensing
data enables the identification, delineating, and monitoring of pollution sources and affected areas
including changes in surface land use and to water bodies. Using high resolution satellite remote
sensing data and state of the art GIS techniques (geographical information system is a system
designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all types of spatial or
geographical data) data can be used for long term environmental management and monitoring of
reclamation and

Complex Individual Identity
The identity of any given individual is, along with the societal representation of the human anima,
in many ways, an amalgam of your culture, social views, and all the other constituents of the
human psyche. The presence of a complex individual identity, is undoubtedly of the prevalence
within the humanity, as compared to any other form of life. This adaptation has allowed our
species to form complex social bonds, leading directly to the genesis of society. On one hand,
nations, groups or even individuals can struggle to ascertain whether their loyalty is to themselves
and their people, or the world as a whole. This can lead to the previously mentioned entity attaining
chiefly domestic views, where the single nation they pledge themselves... Show more content on

Taking place in 1956, the canal, built by Egyptian workers, was lawfully owned by a private
French and British association known as the Suez Canal Company. However, the current
president of Egypt at the time, Gamal Abdel Nasser, believed it to be within the national interest
of Egypt to reclaim the canal due to both the massive economic boon it would provide due to it
funding the Aswan dam, which would help to flood the Nile, and the hydroelectric power gained
from the raging waters. Due to the aforementioned reasons at this time with the cold war still in
effect, Nasser s forces seized the canal in the name of Egypt, nationalizing it in the process.
Although a counterattack was planned by; Israel, Britain, and France, Canadian Prime Minister
Lester B Pearson in conjunction with the UN, planned the first United Nations large scale
peacekeeping force. The British and French wisely bowed to the pressure exerted by the
peacekeeping force, withdrawing from Egypt almost entirely, and the entire conflict ended semi
peacefully despite the 6 day war between Israel and Egypt, with the Suez Canal being labeled
international property. The nations involved in the peacekeeping effort, much to the satisfaction of

1.1 Intro to Physiology
Physiology: the study of the functions of living things, how the human body works
Two approaches explain the events that occur in body purpose of the body process mechanism in
which the process occurs
Physiologists view the body as a machine whose mechanisms of action can explained in terms of
cause and effect sequences of physical and chemical processes.
Physiology is closely related to anatomy: the study of the structure of the body.

Disadvantages Of E-Business
E business is the short form of electronic business. E business is the conducts of business which
using internet to process. Electronic business, or e business, is the use of the Internet to conduct
business. This is a lucrative and highly profitable domain (Natasha Gilani, 2017). The process of e

Maybank to you, servicing customers, control and managing the products, sharing information
between one and other, recruiting, collaborating with your business partner, and running automated

consumer could do online reservation for the air ticket themselves by using the airline reservation
system. For more instance, consumer could book their room through the hotel page nowadays. Next
of the major types of e business for hospitality industry is the Business to Business (B2B). Business
to Business is the online business which selling the goods to the other business. This type of e
business is for the aim of conducting commerce or business between one companies with another
company as they exchange the electronic documents in purchasing the goods and service.
Companies which using B2B E commerce could improve the relationship and communications
among the other companies. Companies which using Business to business are incline to be high
volume and not focus on small transaction result. Example for Business to Business in hospitality
industry is the corporate customers, government, company trips, Event Company, or wedding

Artificial Pancreas
Pancreas is an organ in the body that secretes hormones such as insulin which is important in
keeping normal blood sugar. When the pancreas is unable to produce or produces little insulin
then one suffers from type I diabetes. When the body becomes resistant to the insulin or produces
insulin that is not enough then an individual suffers from type II diabetes. So as to be able to
control diabetes one has to fully rely on drugs and injections. This means that once diabetes sets in
there is no cure. A solution to all these problems is the artificial pancreas. Artificial pancreas is a
device that mimics the functioning of a healthy pancreas of regulating blood sugar. The tiresome of
controlling the blood sugar manually can be a risky one since as humans one must sleep and
cannot control blood sugar when asleep. Therefore this system includes a blood sugar monitoring
device that controls the blood sugar. The problems associated with the manual blood sugar control
are reduced since the blood sugar monitoring device ensures that the blood sugars are well
regulated. Therefore the purpose of the use of artificial pancreas is to ease the therapy diabetes and
to ensure safety of patients by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The other purpose of this system is to reduce the severe effects of temporal stoppage in the use of
insulin at a time when the blood sugar levels fall to low glucose threshold. This is why the system
is sometimes referred to as the low glucose suspend system. It is therefore an ideal way that can
be used as a back up when the patient does not respond to low blood sugar event. The
disadvantage with this kind of artificial pancreas is that the patients have to be alert in checking
the blood sugar levels manually and give themselves insulin through eating. It is however a better
way of ensuring stability in patients who experience low blood sugar

The Historical Enlightenment, By John Locke, Voltaire And...
The historical Enlightenment saw the emergence of a zeitgeist of thinking that used science and
reason to understand the world. Philosophes such as RenГЁ Decarte, John Locke, Voltaire and
Denis Diderot began questioning the core foundations of feudalism as everything around them
became questionable. The intention of the historical Enlightenment was to encourage people to
begin thinking for themselves and to seek knowledge, yet in order to acquire the ability for
knowing, thinking and reasoning, education was required. Diderot, who authorised himself as a
propagandist for a rational and secular view of the world, asserted that education in the sciences and
humanities was the key to individuals living good lives within well structured societies.... Show

Furthermore conservatives believe that changes are to be organic, rather than revolutionary, as any
attempt to modify the complex structures that form society runs the risk of a dramatic unfolding of
unintended consequences. These beliefs can be linked in explaining the unforeseen repercussions
of regarding science and rationality as omnipotent. Conservatives argue that through the subjection
to a utopian ideal of a rational society, humanity has in fact been enslaved rather than liberated. The
endeavor to replace arbitrary monarchial power by rule of reason is limited, as it has
metamorphosed from an instrument against oppression to a mechanism for oppression. The
promise of scientific rationality had consequently become destructive and the individual freedom
that philosophes had been seeking succumbed to enslavement of the economic powers that

The Glass Menagerie And Death Of A Salesman Analysis
The Glass Menagerie was a well written novel that I enjoyed because of all the different aspects
of the characters lives and views of things. For example Laura an older single mother who wants
the best for her two grown children Laura who is 23 years old and Tom who is the older brother.
There father Mr. Wingfield abandoned them for long distance traveling and never came back so
Laurais taking care of them on her own. Her daughter Laura is shy and quiet girl who has a
crippled leg and cannot work because of it and her oldest son Tom is just like his father and wants
to get out of Chicago and travel but he works for a factory to provide for his family. So that is the
situation in the novel. The novel had little hints now and then about what was going to happen
like from the characters talking, the subtitles, and the dramatic music that played throughout the
play, so it was really easy to understand. The reason I chose this novel was because it was about a
play and because it was one of the shortest books. The Glass Menagerie reminded me of another
novel about a play called Death of a Salesman that I read from my last book project just like this
one in ninth grade. In a way both novels The Glass Menagerie and Death of a Salesman are very
similar because both families in the novels, the Wingfield family and the Loman family have the
same difficulties and situations like having no money, job difficulties, stressful lives, running away
from fears and worries, and husbands

Similarities Between Gilgamesh And Oedipus
Heroes are extraordinary characters who carry human qualities that reassure followers of the
heroes limitations. A hero is commonly considered a god, a being with great power that is brave
enough to save whole cities. The human qualities are always their greatest fault, it comes in the
image of pride, ego, selfishness, and even denial. These flaws are represented by the heroes
Gilgamesh and Oedipus. Gilgamesh and Oedipus undertake journeys in search of a truththat will
preserve their glory. While Gilgamesh searches for immortality, Oedipus searches for a different
fate, both, fearing death. However, only one reaches their their goal. Similarly, both figures are
kings; rulers of communities which reflect their ruling. In Gilgamesh s epic, the people knew of
his endeavors and had to live with his sporadic acts because he was their rulerand accepted him as
so. As declared, Day and night his behavior became overbearing. He was their shepherd, yet
powerful, superb, knowledgeable and expert, Gilgamesh would not leave young girls alone,
(199), and it is a positive reflection of his ruling due to the community accepting his antics
through their approval of his leadership. On the other hand, Oedipus ruling was a negative
concept on the fate of the people. The people see his flaws and have their doubts of his rule once
they realize he is the root of their suffering, yet do not fully accept the reality of the situation. This
god of plague guts our city and fills the black world

Before Adolf Hitler became known for being the famous German totalitarian dictator, he believed
that he was destined to be a world famous artist ( Adolf Hitler American). By exploring the early,
median, and final years of the life of Adolf Hitler, one can begin to fully understand the
disappointments that filled his existence. The disappointments that Adolf had experienced
throughout his life started during the early early years of his life, beginning with his childhood and
continuing throughout his adolescent and early adult years. Hitler had always said that he had a

he became more familiar with the inner workings ( Adolf Hitler American). He decided to join
the party, and slowly worked his way up to becoming the recruiting officer for the entire party (

newly renamed Nazi party in July of 1921 ( Adolf Hitler American). Hitler started to do a lot of
public speaking in order to recruit people for the party, and he became very good at being able to

Comparing and Contrasting Epic of Gilgamesh and the...
Comparing and Contrasting Epic of Gilgamesh and Noah s Ark Many cultures have stories of a
great flood, and probably the best known story is of Noah s Ark. The next most notable is the
Sumerian story of Ut Napishtim found in the Epic of Gilgamesh. In the ancient Babylonian
depiction of the flood story, the god Enlil creates a flood to destroy a noisy mankind that is
disturbing his sleep. Gilgamesh is told by another god, Ea, to build an ark (Monack 1). The Epic of
Gilgamesh has broadly the same structure and plot as Noah s Ark, suggesting the possibility that
the Biblical account has drawn influence from the archaeologically older Sumerian depiction.
University professor Alexander Heidel concludes that these accounts are undeniably... Show more

on all sides. However the Biblical record depicts the vessel as rectangular, measuring 450 ft. in
length, 75 ft. in width, and 45 ft. in height (Fowler 2). Naval Academy graduate and engineer
Chuck Missler maintains that the Biblical dimensions are certainly the more reasonable of the
two measurements. Interestingly enough, he also notes the 6:1 length to width ratio of the
Biblical ark is amazingly similar to that of modern day ships (Fowler 2). More differences
between the stories include only minor details. Noah only invited his family and the animals
onboard, but Ut Napishtim invited additional people such as a pilot and some skilled workmen.
Noah s ark landed on Mt. Ararat, but Ut Napishtim s ark landed on Mt. Nisir, which is only a
few 100 miles away. In the Babylonian account, the water came only in the form of rain;
however in the Biblical account water came from beneath the earth in addition to rain. Noah
released a raven once and a dove twice, but Ut Napishtim released three different birds; a dove, a
swallow, and a raven (Comparison). Perhaps the differences were intentional in order to make the
two stories more unique in their own way. Perhaps the differences are simply two different people
s renditioning of the same story. However, despite the minor differences there are many similarities
between the two stories. Indeed the similarities have led some to speculate that these ancient flood
stories were

I thought it to be very interesting and everything pertaining to it to be as well: Visionary: This
style is most appropriate when an organization needs a new direction. Its goal is to move people
towards a new set of shared dreams. Visionary leaders articulate where a group is going, but not
how it will get there setting people free to innovate, experiment, take calculated risks, write Mr.
Goleman and his coauthors. Coaching: This one on one style focuses on developing individuals,
showing them how to improve their performance, and helping to connect their goals to the goals
of the organization. Coaching works best, Mr. Goleman writes, with employees who show
initiative and want more professional development. But it can backfire if it s perceived as
micromanaging an employee, and undermines his or her self confidence. Affiliative: This style
emphasizes the importance of team work, and creates harmony in a group by connecting people to
each other. Mr. Goleman argues this approach is particularly valuable when trying to heighten team
harmony, increase morale, improve communication or repair broken trust in an organization. But
he warns against using it alone, since its emphasis on group praise can allow poor performance to
go uncorrected. Employees may perceive, he writes, that mediocrity is tolerated. Democratic: This
style draws on people s knowledge

adoption. As I watched I thought to myself, where did we forget that it was about the kids? So,
out of curiosity, I began to look up some statistics about kids that have no homes, the ones that are
waiting for good families. I started wondering if it is about the kids, then why, do we care about
same sex adoptions at all. There are two sides to the argument of same sex adoption, and to really
get a feel for the issue you must understand both sides. However, the two sides of the discussion
are not entirely complicated although the reasons are. One side supports same sex adoption and
the other side opposes same sex adoption. Both sides agree that what they want is what s best for
the kids.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We need to look at the facts regarding kids in foster care, and those facts are the statistics for
foster care. These statistics include the number of children currently coming into foster care,
compared to the number that exit foster care, and what the legalization of same sex adoption
would do to those numbers. Since what everyone wants is what s best for the children, you have
to look at the studies of how, if at all, same sex adoption affects children. The last thing we need
to address would be the public opinions of same sex adoption. This includes religious and moral
beliefs and the political ideas, as this is where the policies will be addressed and decisions made to
change the laws around same sex

The Long Profile Of A River
Introduction
In this investigation, I will be investigating the changes along the long profile of a river. In order
to do this, I will be collecting data and making observations at three different points along the river;
the upper course, the middle course, and the lower course.
The river which I will be conducting my observations would be on Bartley Water. Bartley Water is
a river going through the New Forest which is located in the south of the UK, Hampshire. The
source of the river begins from Bartley, 109m above sea level, and joins to its end at Eling,
flowing into Southampton Water. The river has a length of 27km and a catchment area of
40sqkm. It is a tributary of the River Test. The river bed contains of a mixture of sand, silt and
clay which can change as the river behaves due to erosion, transportation and deposition.
The sites which I will be investigating on are:
Site one is at Buskett s Lawn, grid reference: 309109
Site two is at Woodlands, grid reference: 325006
Site three is at Eling, grid reference: 362124
The surroundings of these areas differ at each site. Site one is mostly rural areas whereas, when it
moves onto the last site, it becomes an urban area. These will affect on the course and direction of
the river and its characteristics.
The long profile of a river describes how the characteristics of the river vary from the upper course
to the lower course. A quicker and easier way to present this idea is through a Bradshaw Model

Pros And Cons Of Capitalism
One form of capitalism is welfare capitalism. For a long period of time benefits have been given
to people to help them with food and basic necessities, without a charge. This service is funded
through the form of taxation. This helps people with disabilities or jobless, and it helps people that
are in a deep form of poverty. Some pros of welfare include: providing assistance when families
needit the most. Sometimes family members lose their jobs or a sudden death happens to where
they find themselves needing the assistance the most. By offering an assistance like this, people
can get the helpthey need, so that it can help them get back on their feet. Another pro is, welfare
can help with reducing crime. Sometimes in desperate situations, people find themselves doing
whatever they can, even if it means breaking the law. This way by providing the help that they
need, this will reduce some of that desperation and preventing the crime. Last but not least, it
helps the children. The amount of kids that would experience hunger without the help of
welfare, would be extremely significant. This way we can help world hunger one child at a
time. It s really hard to say whether welfare is a good form of capitalism or not because there are
so many good pros and cons that make this topic so debatable. I truly don t think that people will
ever decide whether we need it or not but I do also believe that its doing better than harm. Yes, we
do have people that abuse the system and do

Oppression of Women in Victorian Society Essay
How would you like it ladies if you were told that your only place in this world was in the home,
or that as you were born a woman you were already given the career of marriage? There would be
no way out of it, no hope of changing and becoming something new and exciting, you were stuck
in this position and either you made the best of it or died trying to revolt. Women held no rights.
They were forced to be robots, performing only for the men they had to seek marriage to. The
only jobs that women were allowed to hold was that of motherhood, they were not allowed to
speak unless spoken to and certainly were not expected to have personal opinion. It was not until

Women were only there for men, and the most important aspect of that was marriage. From the
time they were young they were set to be beautiful, because only the pretty girls got the richest
man. The girls were groomed and basically put on show like a common day racehorse. In
addition to being good looking, a young girl was expected to be able to sing, play an instrument
and speak French and Italian. They needed to be gentle, innocent and ignorant of their
intellectual opinions. Women in the Victorian society were meant to be weak, helpless, fragile
and unable to think for themselves. There only job was to make sure the home was comfortable
for the children and the man of the house. Her one use to the world was to produce a large
family and a neutral and calm family atmosphere. In those times the man was the moneymaker
and the woman was there to keep the house clean and tranquil. Men also held no respect for their
wives with the evidence being mistresses. Many men kept mistresses and in the end still expected
their wives to be faithful even though they were cheating on them the whole time. It was a
hypocritical aspect of the Victorian ages, men were allowed and even praised for being unfaithful
while women were ostracized for it. A woman could not hold property in her name, even if she
inherited that property from her family it was still in sole possession of her husband.

Interest Rate And Interest Rates
1.1 Background of the Study Interest rate is the amount of interest due per period, as a proportion
of the amount lent, deposited or borrowed (called the principal sum). The total interest on an
amount lent or borrowed depends on the principal sum, the interest rate, the compounding
frequency, and the length of time over which it is lent, deposited or borrowed (Wikipedia). Interest
rate as policy instrument can be used to foster meaningful macroeconomic stability, the rate of
interest exacts its influence on the macro economy by transmitting through savings, investment,

The country s agricultural products is divided into two main groups: food crops and cash crops
produced for home consumption and exports. The special interest of Government in the
Agricultural sector is due to its relevance in the provision of raw materials for industries and most
importantly the provision of food for the teaming population of Nigeria. (Akiri and Adofu 2007).
Basically, agriculture provides 65% employment opportunities for the population to reduce poverty

Honor And Glory In The Iliad, By Homer
The Iliad, by Homer, is an epic poem that portrays a 9 year war between the Trojans and the
Greeks. The objective of the war was to retrieve Helen, the wife of Menelaus, from Paris, a Trojan
prince, but it resulted in a brutal, prolonged battle. The Iliad begins with the ire of Achilles who
decides to sit out of the 9 year war because he is unwilling to fight for the Agamemnon any further,
as Agamemnon is, in the eyes of Achilles, a coward who is unwilling to fight his own war. In the
Greek world Honor and Glory were essential elements in defining the worthiness of a man. Honor
took form in taking the reputation of another, and Glory took form in recognition of an accolade.
Hence, In The Iliad, Homer degrades the ideology of Honor and Glory through Achilles rejection to
participate in the war.
In The Iliad, the tenet of Honor, by the recognition of accomplishments, in the Greek world is
shown through the conversations between Glaucus and Sarpedon about the 9 year war. In book
12, Sarpedon attempts to convince Glaucus to fighting the Greeks by saying, But as it is, death is
everywhere, in more shapes than we can count, and since no mortal is immune or can escape, Let
us go forward either to give to another man or to get glory from him (12.338 342). Here Sarpedon
speaks with conviction about the common war beliefs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

conventions of Honor and Glory, where Andromache, Hector s wife, also serves as a reminder

Papa John s Case Study Essays
Introduction
The Papa John s case provides a classic example of a company that entered a highly saturated and
mature market and was able to enjoy immense growth and success due to its creative product
differentiation strategy. The company s motto has been consistent from the day the first restaurant
was opened: Superior ingredients and a superior product from its competitors. John Schnatter took
the basic concept of product differentiation and positioning to new heights as he created a strong
global brand, which had an unprecedented track record of success and customer loyalty over its
competitor s pizza products.
This case analysis will examine the company s initial meteoric growth, leveling performance in

Buyers: While the original strategy was to offer only high quality pizza, customer preferences
began to shift gradually which required expanded menu options for items to complement pizza
such as desserts and other creative menu items. Declining sales in the quick service and sit down
restaurant dining increased the propensity for people to cook more meals at home as well.
Substitutes: The quality of substitutes for pizza (frozen pizza and other cheaper alternative
brands) had also evolved to a point to which the additional price for consumers to pay a premium
for Papa John s pizza pies was being questioned.
Volatility in pricing of key Ingredients: The volatility in the price of cheese is mentioned in the
case as a key factor that caused major problems for Papa John s as it contributed to as much as 40%
of a location s ingredient costs.
Papa John s Strategy: Differentiation via Product over Price
As mentioned earlier, the pizza market was already a mature market at the time Papa John s
opened its first store in Indiana in 1985. In such conditions where competition is fierce, most
entrants choose to compete on price in order to achieve growth and capture market share. From the
beginning, Papa John s chose to compete on quality, customer service, and creative marketing a
stark contrast with its competition that were largely differentiating on price.

The Effects Of Media On Young Audiences
Violence in the media has become a hot topic of discussion due to its potential effects on young
audiences. While content on broadcast networks such as ABC and NBC is regulated by the
Federal Communications Commission (FCC), premium channels like the Home Box Office
(HBO) do not fall under their jurisdiction and therefore do not need to obey such regulations (Title
47). A prime example of graphic violenceon televisionthat falls outside of the FCC s purview is
found in the HBO hit series Game of Thrones. The ninth episode of the third season of Game of
Thrones, The Rains of Castamere , is well known as one of the most violent episodes in the
show. This is mostly attributed to a specific scene in this episode, known by the book readers as
the Red Wedding. The scene is one of the most violent scenes in all of Game of Thrones history.
The Red Wedding scene was quite controversial after it aired in 2013, with some arguing that it
was too violent, even for an HBO television show. Others stated that they thought the violence
was necessary considering the historical references mentioned, and the way the book was
written. I believe that the purpose of the violence and gore found in Game of Thrones, and more
specifically The Rains of Castamere , is to replicate the way modern audiences think of the Dark
Ages. It also stands to entice the original readers of the novels who would expect the violence of
the show to live up to that in the books. The violence in The Rains of

Tort Reform And Frivolous Lawsuits
As defined Tort reform advocates propose among other things, procedural limits on the ability to
file claims, and capping the awards of damages. There are common goals for each different tort
reform; some of these include
To make it more difficult for injured people to file lawsuits
To make it more difficult for injured people to obtain a jury trial
To place limits on the amount of money injured people received in a lawsuit.
Frivolous lawsuits are lawsuits that cannot be supported under existing legal precedent. In political
debate the term frivolous is used to describe torts as a small connection between the defendant and
the plaintiff where the damages sought after are too high. The U.S. sees about 15 million lawsuits

The Presidential Campaign And Obama s Administration
A key issue during the 2008 presidential campaign and Obama s administration was interest
groups and lobbyists. Obama had to deal with interest groups all throughout his presidency,
whether it was dealing with Congress or his interaction with committees. Over time interest
groups have taken on a larger and more important role in government. The interaction between
interest groups and Obama played an influential role in shaping his presidency. Special interest
groups are a group of people, usually formally organized that share a common concern and wish
to influence public policy in some way. The goal of all interest groups is to affect government
policy for themselves or to further their causes. A goal they have could be an exclusive policy
that benefits group members or one segment of society or a policy that affects a larger group such
as the public as a whole. An example of an exclusive policy is government subsidies for farmers
and an example of a larger effecting policy is improving air quality. The main method special
interest groups use to accomplish their goals is lobbying, which is trying to influence decisions
made by legislators or other government officials. Whether a government is democratic,
authoritarian, or totalitarian, interests are a dominant and permanent aspect of the political world.
Furthermore, interest groups not only play a role on the national stage, they exist at all levels of
government: national, state, provincial, and local. Interest

The Caster Chronicles by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
Since I was a kid I have been fascinated by the imaginary world where there are magic, mythical
creatures and the freedom of having power to do what you want. My preference was fading until
the movie Beautiful Creatures, a film adaptation for the first novel in the series The Caster
Chronicles by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl. When it hit the theater, I watched it and decided to
read the next novelin the series called Beautiful Darkness .
Published by Little, Brown on October 12, 2010, Beautiful Darkness is a 528 page young adult
fantasy and romance novel. The story continued with the recovering of two main characters, Ethan
Wate, a mortal and Lena Duchannes, a caster. Despite their different species, they fell in lovethe
first time they saw each other at Jackson High School, and confronted many challenges from
Lena s malicious mom, Sarafine Duchannes, and a family curse. Personally, I am a very selective
reader, but it was such a riveting, gripping novel that it only took 5 days to complete. The
combination of the roller coaster love story, the fighting scene between dark and light, and the
adventurous way they conquer love has ranked the novel #3 on New York Times bestsellers.
The novel is told in first person by Ethan Wate. Ethan is a typical 16 year old boy growing up in
Gatlin with his parents until his mom passed away the previous summer. His dad had gone mad
and was sent to a mental hospital in town. He lives with Amarie Treadeau, nicknamed and better

Pilgrims Progress Essay
Writing in first person or third person determines not only the pronouns, but how we perceive the
story. Often, first person creates more intimacy between the reader and the character. The
unreliable narrator is also most common in this perspective. Third person is less invasive and less
limiting. In third person, the narrator does not participate in the action. Oddly enough, Pilgrims
Progress communicates its narrative in multiple perspectives. Admittedly, any story that employs a
first person pronoun is in first person. However, the first person narrator is only there to remind us
of the real world. All the action in Pilgrims Progress happens through Christian s eyes. Christian s
story occurs in a dream. This clever trick enables John Bunyan to be as unspecific about time and

This style makes the story fast paced, but it usually limits connections to the characters. This
dispassionate observer does not explain the character s feelings or thoughts. The writer
communicates only the essentials of what is happening. Despite this, Bunyan shows the feelings of
the characters through dialogue and body language. Letting readers interpret the characters
emotions, makes the story more relatable. The spectators observe the characters accomplishing
these feats and have a neutral view of the action. This projects the story like a screenplay. In limited
point of view, readers are confined to the character s perspective, but the readers are not in the
characters head. It is more common in Pilgrim s Progress than omniscient. Limited creates tighter

The Methodology Of Islamic Economics And Positive Economics
Introduction
Methodology of economics has been an essential part in constructing the fundamental economic
theories and hypotheses. It has been a subject of research by economists and become their interest
in answering empirical problems of human beings. It becomes a main framework of positivists in
developing their thought on economic system. The methodology also utilized in developing Islamic
economic to build self and distinct system than the existing conventional economic due to several
differentiations of its worldview and primary sources. The differences in sources and characteristics
between two disciplines lead to a different methodological framework.
This study will attempt to discuss the distinction between the methodology of Islamic economics
and positive economics. The study will start from defining each system, followed by comparing the
similarity of the methodology, and finally contrasting of both methods.
The Definitions
There are two descriptions of definition from each system. Siddiqi (1992) notes in Chapra (2000)
that the definition of Islamic economics is The Muslim thinkers response to the economic
challenges of their times. In this endeavor, they were aided by the Quran and the Sunnah as well
as by reason and experience. The definition of economic as a positive science as revealed by
Friedman (1966) that it is a body of tentatively accepted generalizations about economic phenomena
that can be used to predict the consequences of changes in

CHAPTER 1 INDIA S TRANSITION FROM A CLOSED TO AN OPEN ECONOMY
A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new,
when an age ends, and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance. 1.1 These are the
words of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India, in his speech marking the

Identity Crisis In As I Lay Dying By Ernest Hemingway
Vardaman and Jake had their lives completely changed by an identity crisis that was caused by
personal tragedies. In the novel, As I lay Dying by William Faulkner, a young boy named
Vardaman experiences the death of his sick and fragile mother. Jake, from the novel, The Sun

Jake and Vardaman do not relatively experience the same events nor react in the same manner, but
they both experience the feeling of identity loss. A person who experiences a loss of identity often

Vardaman s messy and confusing thoughts reflect his struggle to fully comprehend what is
happening as his family embarks on a long journey to bury Addie. Jewel s mother is a horse. My
mother is a fish. Darl says that when we come to the water again I might see her and Dewey Dell
said, She s in a box; how could she have got out? (Faulkner 184). Vardaman isn t accustomed to
understanding and forming rational thoughts on his own, and when his mother dies he loses a
substantial influencer in the formation of his identity. Now he gets easily confused on simple
things, such as how his mother got out of the box if she is a fish. What makes this description of
Vardaman s confused thoughts so dynamic is Faulkner s usage of short sentences that are
juxtaposed with long sentences. The short sentences state what he thinks is right, but then the next
sentence flows from what Darl said to what Dewy Dell said, and by the end of that sentence he
wonders how any of it pieces together. That mesh of different ideas into one long sentence parallels
with the mess of confusion about everything in Vardaman s life. Along with complex sentence
structure, Faulkner uses complicated diction to express the character s emotions. You kilt my
maw! (Faulkner 48). The slang is used by Faulkner to create the effect that Vardaman s confused
thoughts and emotions are directly going from him to the reader. One of Faulkner s stylistic
purposes of this is to make the reader intensely aware of the feelings and needs of each family
member ( Notable American Novelists 451). He does this by making it seem as though the
character wrote the words instead of Faulkner himself, which in a sense draws a deeper
understanding of the character s emotions for the reader. Faulkner s word choice and sentence
structure emphasizes the tone of Vardaman s experiences through his identity

the United States and the Chicanos, Americans of Mexican Descent, have been affected greatly by
racism and are still being affected today. However, just as much as the Chicanos have been C
Chicanos, after the Mexican American War to now where Mexican immigrants have been
considered a problem.
Since the early 1600s when the pilgrims came to the United States, there was mistreatment of the
natives as they were non white and they seen as savages by the Englishmen because the natives
did not believe in God as stated in chapter one of A People s History of the United States.

Sociological Concepts In The Film American Sniper
The film American Sniper portrays the life of a US Navy S.E.A.L. sniper Chris Kyle who was
deployed to Iraq after the events of 9/11. The movie shows the life of Kyle before his deployment
to Iraq. He was a Texan rodeo cowboy who later joined the military after watching a news film of an
attack on a US embassy. After passing his BUD/s as a S.E.A.L., he meets Taya at a bar who later
becomes his wife. After the attack on the World Trade Center, Kyle s team is deployed to Iraq
and is
assigned to take out Al Qaeda forces. During Kyle s deployment, he faced challenging moments
where both himself and his comrades were in danger. His duty as a sniper was to take out
hostile people who were a threat to the Marines, even children. Kyle then begins to develop a
case of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, though he is unwillingly to accept it. His wife Taya
begins to worry for him because of his slow inability to assimilate back into civilian life. After
completing his four tours in Iraq, he retires from the military and returns home as well as helping
other veterans with PTSD. However, Kyle was later killed by a veteran whom he tried to help.
Throughout the film, many sociological concepts were seen in the movie. Symbolic interactionism,
values, mores, coercion, gender socialization, and total institutions were apparent in the film.
Symbolic interactionism is defined as a theoretical perspective in which society is viewed as
composed of symbols that people use to establish meaning,

Examples Of The Valley Of Ashes In The Great Gatsby
The valley of ashes also represents the American dream. In the novel, Fitzgerald vividly
describes the valley of ashes as a farm, where ashes grow like wheat into ridges and hills and
grotesque gardens (Fitzgerald 24). The use of the polysyndeton infers that the amount of ashes
is endless. The ash grey men in the valley of ashes are experiencing a tremendous agony as they

The Once And Future King Analysis
Good ideas exist everywhere, but the bad news is that they can be used for the wrong purposes.
Even in The Once and Future King by T. H. White, this proposition eventually comes to pass by
King Arthur. King Arthur s idea for the Knights of the Round Table soon crumbled over time
because he became so entangled in preserving his idea that his optimism shielded him from the
reality of what was truly going on with his kingdom, knights, and the war. By the beginning of
Arthur s reign, he already started to fight wars against the opposing kingdom of, Orkney. Gawaine
mentioned in the story he and his brothers told each other that these wars had originated from what
King Uther had done to Orkney in the past. Pendragon had killed the Count of Cornwall

The Importance Of Habitat For Humanity
For over a year now, I have heard the same slogan over and over, Let s Make America Great
Again . This has been the ongoing slogan for Trump throughout his campaign for president but I
haven t really seen anything that has been made great. Have you ever just stopped and looked
around, and seen everything around you? Seeing people holding up signs at intersections, grocery
stores, asking for help with food, gas or shelter. Have you seen the news lately talking about the
weather, particularly the storms, employment rate and the crime rate? This is the main topic that I
am going to talk about in my paper. We as a human race need to come together and work as one

Mr Nobody Essay
General Purpose: Don t burden yourself with the weight of choices. Specific Purpose: By the
end of the speech the audience will: understand that I change my mind from being a logical
decision making machine to more open to mystery and randomness. Central Idea: The movie
Mr. Nobody changed my perspective on how decisions are important yet sometimes are left
better off to chance. Main Idea 1: I used to feel that decisions are better made logically and the
best most efficient way to reap the benefits is to weight your options and choose no matter how
hard it may be being predictable. Supporting idea 1a: Whenever I buy a drink, it s always a
Chocolate Chip Frappe. Because I know how it tastes, I know what I don t like about it. So, was...

No matter the situation, the choice must be right. But in Mr. Nobody, Nemo explains that not
all our choices have to be right. That s because we don t know what s right until they happen.
Main Idea 2: The movie Mr. Nobody showed me that knowing your actions or results doesn t
make it easier to live with ourselves. So sometimes when you take the blame off yourself and
put it on mystery, it makes life easier to live. Supporting idea 2a: Nemo had the choice to choose
to leave his mother or leave his father, and after seeing all his outcomes; he chooses none.
Because the burden of choosing one family member over the only raises complexity and conflict
in his mind. Also, running away was the only time his decisions couldn t be judged because he
didn t know what would happen. Supporting Idea 2b: The movie made me realize that the burden
my choices bear keeps me from choosing the choice that s good for me, so applying some
unpredictability to them helps. It may not be the right choice, but I wouldn t know which choice
was the best until I made one. Transition: a quote from the movie says, You have to make the right

The Censorship Of Canadian Content
Rules revolving around Canadian Content (CanCon) have been set in place since the 1920 s. In
2005, revisions to the 1991 Broadcasting Act were made. Since this revision was made there have
been further changes to the Act trying to create the best set of rules for CanCon to be broadcasted
(Dewing, 2011). CanCon is an outdated concept that is causing consumers to switch to other forms
of media. The CanCon rules cannot determine what is considered Canadian and they cannot keep
up with the ever changing forms of media. Canadian producers are only getting a slim portion of
the industry even with the rules in place. Therefore CanCon rules should be totally eliminated.
While technology is getting better and people have begun streaming different forms of media
online, the government has been slow on updating the rules that regulate broadcasted Canadian
Content (Mejaski, 2011). Due to the rapid development of digital technology CanCon rules are now
outdated. This is causing the distinction between broadcasting and telecommunications to be
blurred. New technology has resulted in fragmentation. This refers to the idea that there are is a
growing number of courses that now have to be regulated by CanCon (Dewig, 2011). With the
world technologically progressing Canada has to focus on the idea that the world is becoming
borderless. This idea comes from the thought that technology is bringing the world closer together
because everyone is interconnected now. This will result in the power

The American Of The Canadian Empire
Once considered the gem of the Canadian Crown Corporations, Air Canada was afflicted by a
storm of financial problems in the early nineties. This onslaught of financial difficulties, which
had been created largely by the Gulf War and the Canadian recession, increased Air Canada s
losses increased at worrisome rates. Then, after suffering losses upwards of $218 million in 1991,
the Board of Directors recognized the need for a corporate overhaul and consequently appointed
Hollis Harris as the Chief Executive Officer the following year. Harris, a 37 year veteran in the
highly competitive American airlineindustry, was given the challenging task of returning the
struggling airline to profitability. When he was appointed, many Canadians were outraged that an
American would lead a privatized Canadian company and feared this decision to be a step towards
the impending Americanization of the Canadian culture. Others speculated that Harris was
appointed for the sole purpose of training and mentoring Air Canada s future leader . However,
these individuals were all proven wrong when Harris transformed the reeling airline into a leading
competitor in the global airline industry. His American background, which was condemned by
many, played a significant role in the expanding Air Canada s international reach. His experience in
the aviation sector combined with his extraordinary leadership skills, helped reduce costs and
placed Air Canada on the path to financial recovery. Finally,

The Yellow Wallpaper And Professions For Women
Women And Domesticity
Domestic work and other types of work that is typically associated with women has always been
undervalued and overlooked. Many types of work fall under the umbrella of domestic labor, such
as: cooking, cleaning, mending, child care, running errands, managing the household, and much
more. This type of work is highly undervalued and often ignored. Many of the works that we have
looked at in this section highlight how many women felt about the domestic sphere that they were
placed in. In this essay I will discuss this point using points from The Yellow Wallpaper and
Professions For Women . Both women commented on the domestic sphere for women and what that
meant for them. The Yellow Wallpaper highlights the separate spheres ideaology, an ideaology that
states that men and women belong in different spheres of society. A womans place in in the home,
where she can carry out her duties as a wife and mother in private while a man s sphere is the
one of the public domain. In The Yellow Wallpaper a woman is diagnosed with nervous
depression after the birth of her baby and put on a rest cure . She spends the entirity of the story
in a bedroom of a house her husbad had rented out for their summer vacation. Being locked in her
bedroom causes her to have a mental breakdown. Gilman had written The Yellow Wallpaper to
describe her own experience with depression and the rest cure, prescribed by a renowned

gained by using statistical models to estimate that the rural households in over forty countries
would have the least amount of access to some sort of clean water supply and proper sanitation
facility. This would mean that in the rural countries, there would most likely be a higher rate of
diarrheal diseases and based on their geographic location it would also mean the people in those
areas would have a lower access to doctors, medical facilities, and healthcare which can mean a

The severity of this dependence varies between individuals. Roughly 4% of the Canadian
population, over the age of 15, are suffering from an alcohol dependency or are alcoholics. The
highest percentage of these drinking problems are among people between the ages of 20 and 24.
Roughly one fifth of Canada s alcoholics have admitted that financial and job related problems
have been caused by their drinking ( Alcohol in Canada, 2016).

The effects associated with alcohol are produced by the ethanol in the alcohol. The severity of
these effects is reflected by the concentration of alcohol in an individual s blood, which is
dictated by the amount of alcohol ingested, the volume of blood, the individual s metabolism,
and amount of time since ingestion. In large doses, alcohol acts as a depressant of the central
nervous system. A blood alcohol level of 0.1% affects some of the motor areas of the brain

Implementing Devolution And Strategic Hrm Essay
MGMT 405
Critical Review
Introduction
(Bainbridge, 2015), analyses the point of devolution of people management to the line. Further he
looks at how rationales and mediators can control how well a devolution process and strategic HR
can be implemented into an organisation. Using a qualitative research technique, the author proves
that the rationales have a direct impact on the mediators when it comes to the implementation of
devolution into an organisation. The article by Bainbridge (2015) doesn t take into consideration
that the HR managers themselves need to have the credibility and respected of the CEO and line
managers to be able to effectively implement and maintain the devolution. My critique is that many
organisations are not able to implement devolution and strategic HRM because the HR managers
themselves do not have the needed credibility in the eyes of the CEO and line managers to make a
success of it. Without the credibility HR ends up playing an advisory and administrative role and
the CEO and line managers run the strategic aspect.
Thesis statement
Bainbridge (2015), states that in order to successfully implement devolution of people management
to the line and thereby make HRM strategic within an organisation, there has to be flowing
relationship between devolutional rationales, HR function attributes, line manager focused HR
practices and people management effectiveness.
These arguments are reasonable but the key component of credibility of HRM

Oklahoma City Bombing Research Paper
In 1995, it all started as a peaceful Wednesday morning. People were starting work or just waking
up in Oklahoma City. While all these peoples days were starting, a young male parked a yellow
truck outside of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. That day, everyone s life in that building
changed forever. The effects of the April 19,1995 bombing were more than just physical to the
survivors of this horrific event. The incident was planned a year before the bombing, in an old
trailer in Kingman Arizona between an ex military man named Timothy McVeigh
, and some of his
military friends (Casey). McVeigh was just like any other boy growing up. He was into toys and
sports, but he was very into guns. When he was older, he joined the army and was the top of his
squadron. After given the opportunity to join the Green Berets but not meeting up to their
standards, he left the army and tried to become a worker. During this time, he followed his hobby

  • 2. Book Report On The Book The Night Today is September 1st, 1939 in Holland. Right now I m going to be writing a book, it is going to be really good. I wish it would be published so that lots of people could read it and enjoy it. Once I m finished with my book I will lend a copy to my good friends the Franks. The Franks are, Otto Frank, Edith Frank, Margot Frank, and Anne Frank. So it s 1:00 in the afternoon and while I was in the middle of writing my book I was interrupted by a loud, BANG! Then there were even more loud noises and I started to think that they were gunshots, so I looked at my window and i saw a Jew laying on the ground dead and next to him was a Nazi with a rifle. I quickly ran over to the Frank s House to see if they heard the shots and they did. Every single one of us started wondering why they would kill Jews. We knew it was because of Adolf Hitler, he is in control of the Nazis. Everyday now for the past week there has been at least one killing of a Jew. I started to think that we were going to be in a war with the Germans. The next day seven Jews were shot and killed and lots of people were being taken to a place called Concentration Camps. It is a horrible place, they hardly feed you, it is just a complete disaster. The Franks are going into this hideout called the Secret Annex, the Secret Annex is hidden in Otto Franks business place. The Secret Annex entrance is covered by a moving bookshelf. Also I have to take care of my family too, my son and my husband. So everyday someone has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Personal Narrative On Catcher In The Rye IF YOU really want to know, the first thing you d probably want to hear about is what happened to me while I was at that goddam place and what they did to me, and what happened between my parents and me and all that crap, but I d rather not go into it. To tell the truth, that stuff made no difference on me. And besides, my parents would be in way over their heads if I told you anything personal about them. They re as touchy as hell, they are. What I will tell you about is what happened after I left that goddam place, after that sonuvabitch finally let me out. The day I left that goddam place, that one psychoanalyst kept on bringing up the subject of school. Try hard, son. You ve got a bright mind! Learn to use it! Be a good boy and go back... That was the only time I d ever see my mother cry. In 26 goddam years, that was the only time. She didn t even cry at Allie s goddam funeral. Holden! I turned around. Jane Gallagher was running towards me. She looked great as hell. Oh, Holden! It s been so long! I ve missed you! I gave her a kiss on the cheek. I probably would ve done more, but I was too jittery. When d Phoebe go missimg? I was getting really nervous. Well, I heard the poilce here early on this morning. Holden, you should really talk to your mother. You re the only person who can calm her down...and you re probably the only person who can figure out where Phoebe is. I didn t want to, but I talked to my mother. For Jane, though. I felt like I owed her. I don t know why. I was a madman, I really was. I don t want go over the whole damn conversation again, but my mother pretty much just told me that Phoebe hadn t been kidnapped, like I d thought, she d actually run away. Using system resources (CPU, disk space) without proper accounting; causing the printer to mix output by sending data while some other user s file is printing. Probably not, because any protection scheme invented by a human can also be broken and more the complex more is difficult it is to be confident of its correct implementation. 1.15) Special hardware can differentiate the multiple processors, or the software can be written to allow only one boss and multiple workers. For instance,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Increased through put: By increasing the number of processors, we expect to get more work done in less time. The speed up ratio with N processors is not N, however; rather, it is less than N. When multiple processors cooperate on a task, a certain amount of overhead is incurred in keeping all the parts working correctly. This overhead, plus contention for shared resources, lowers the expected gain from additional processors. Similarly, N programmers working closely together do not produce N times the amount of work a single programmer would produce. 2. Economy of scale: Multiprocessor systems can cost less than equivalent multiple single processor systems, because they can share peripherals, mass storage, and power supplies. If several programs operate on the same set of data, it is cheaper to store those data on one disk and to have all the processors share them than to have many computers with local disks and many copies of the data. 3. Increased reliability. If functions can be distributed properly among several processors, then the failure of one processor will not halt the system, only slow it down. If we have ten processors and one fails, then each of the remaining nine processors can pick up a share of the work of the failed processor. Thus, the entire system runs only 10 percent slower, rather than failing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Ellison Onizuka Major Accomplishments Ellison Onizuka was an Asian American astronaut that worked on the Discovery and Challenger missions. He was born on June 24, 1946 in Kealakua, Hawaii. As a child he picked coffee beans to make money for his family. He went to the University of Colorado and was in their Air Force ROTC program and studied aerospace engineering. Ellison Onizuka impacted space exploration by becoming the first Asian American in space, working on the IUS on the Discovery mission, and the tragic fate of the Challenger mission. Onizuka s first major accomplishment was becoming the first Asian American in space. Onizuka became the first Asian American in space in January of 1985 when he joined the crew of the Discovery for the shuttle program s first Department of Defense mission (Encyclopedia.com, 2018). Onizuka was the type of person that never forgot where he came from. He remembers being a little kid in Hawaii and dreaming of becoming an astronaut. • 7. A Research Study On Mining Water Here in the U.S mining uses 4,020 million gallons per day, out of that 4 million + gallons 86% of it comes from surface and groundwater. To put this in percpective if you were a swimming pool builder and a customer asked you to build a pool that would hold 3.5 million gallons you would need to build a pool about 950 feet long (almost as long as 3 football fields), 175 feet wide, and 10 feet deep. That s a lot of water! Mining water is water used for the extraction of minerals that may be in the form of solids, such as iron, coal, gravel and sand or liquids, such as crude petroleum and natural gas. Mining withdrawals are considered self supplied water as freshwater or saline water. A recent study here in the U.S revealed withdrawals from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nevada, Florida, Ohio, Arizona, and Pennsylvania accounted for 52 percent of fresh groundwater withdrawals. Oil and gas operations in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Wyoming and California were responsible for the large saline groundwater withdrawals in those states because saline water is a byproduct of mining operations. The use of water in mining has the potential and has been known to affect the quality of surrounding surface water and groundwater. In response to environmental concerns and government regulations, the mining industry worldwide increasingly monitors water discharged from mine sites and has implemented a number of management strategies to prevent water pollution. One such strategy is the use of remote sensing to assess impact of mining activities on land and water resources. Environmental impact assessment is now an integral part of mining operations. Remote sensing data enables the identification, delineating, and monitoring of pollution sources and affected areas including changes in surface land use and to water bodies. Using high resolution satellite remote sensing data and state of the art GIS techniques (geographical information system is a system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and present all types of spatial or geographical data) data can be used for long term environmental management and monitoring of reclamation and ... Taking place in 1956, the canal, built by Egyptian workers, was lawfully owned by a private French and British association known as the Suez Canal Company. However, the current president of Egypt at the time, Gamal Abdel Nasser, believed it to be within the national interest of Egypt to reclaim the canal due to both the massive economic boon it would provide due to it funding the Aswan dam, which would help to flood the Nile, and the hydroelectric power gained from the raging waters. Due to the aforementioned reasons at this time with the cold war still in effect, Nasser s forces seized the canal in the name of Egypt, nationalizing it in the process. Although a counterattack was planned by; Israel, Britain, and France, Canadian Prime Minister Lester B Pearson in conjunction with the UN, planned the first United Nations large scale peacekeeping force. • 11. Artificial Pancreas Pancreas is an organ in the body that secretes hormones such as insulin which is important in keeping normal blood sugar. When the pancreas is unable to produce or produces little insulin then one suffers from type I diabetes. When the body becomes resistant to the insulin or produces insulin that is not enough then an individual suffers from type II diabetes. So as to be able to control diabetes one has to fully rely on drugs and injections. This means that once diabetes sets in there is no cure. A solution to all these problems is the artificial pancreas. Artificial pancreas is a device that mimics the functioning of a healthy pancreas of regulating blood sugar. The tiresome of controlling the blood sugar manually can be a risky one since as humans one must sleep and cannot control blood sugar when asleep. Therefore this system includes a blood sugar monitoring device that controls the blood sugar. The problems associated with the manual blood sugar control are reduced since the blood sugar monitoring device ensures that the blood sugars are well regulated. • 12. The Historical Enlightenment, By John Locke, Voltaire And... The historical Enlightenment saw the emergence of a zeitgeist of thinking that used science and reason to understand the world. Philosophes such as RenГЁ Decarte, John Locke, Voltaire and Denis Diderot began questioning the core foundations of feudalism as everything around them became questionable. The intention of the historical Enlightenment was to encourage people to begin thinking for themselves and to seek knowledge, yet in order to acquire the ability for knowing, thinking and reasoning, education was required. Diderot, who authorised himself as a propagandist for a rational and secular view of the world, asserted that education in the sciences and humanities was the key to individuals living good lives within well structured societies.... Furthermore conservatives believe that changes are to be organic, rather than revolutionary, as any attempt to modify the complex structures that form society runs the risk of a dramatic unfolding of unintended consequences. These beliefs can be linked in explaining the unforeseen repercussions of regarding science and rationality as omnipotent. Conservatives argue that through the subjection to a utopian ideal of a rational society, humanity has in fact been enslaved rather than liberated. The endeavor to replace arbitrary monarchial power by rule of reason is limited, as it has metamorphosed from an instrument against oppression to a mechanism for oppression. The promise of scientific rationality had consequently become destructive and the individual freedom that philosophes had been seeking succumbed to enslavement of the economic powers that ... • 13. The Glass Menagerie And Death Of A Salesman Analysis The Glass Menagerie was a well written novel that I enjoyed because of all the different aspects of the characters lives and views of things. For example Laura an older single mother who wants the best for her two grown children Laura who is 23 years old and Tom who is the older brother. There father Mr. Wingfield abandoned them for long distance traveling and never came back so Laurais taking care of them on her own. Her daughter Laura is shy and quiet girl who has a crippled leg and cannot work because of it and her oldest son Tom is just like his father and wants to get out of Chicago and travel but he works for a factory to provide for his family. So that is the situation in the novel. The novel had little hints now and then about what was going to happen like from the characters talking, the subtitles, and the dramatic music that played throughout the play, so it was really easy to understand. The reason I chose this novel was because it was about a play and because it was one of the shortest books. The Glass Menagerie reminded me of another novel about a play called Death of a Salesman that I read from my last book project just like this one in ninth grade. In a way both novels The Glass Menagerie and Death of a Salesman are very similar because both families in the novels, the Wingfield family and the Loman family have the same difficulties and situations like having no money, job difficulties, stressful lives, running away from fears and worries, and husbands ... • 14. Similarities Between Gilgamesh And Oedipus Heroes are extraordinary characters who carry human qualities that reassure followers of the heroes limitations. A hero is commonly considered a god, a being with great power that is brave enough to save whole cities. The human qualities are always their greatest fault, it comes in the image of pride, ego, selfishness, and even denial. These flaws are represented by the heroes Gilgamesh and Oedipus. Gilgamesh and Oedipus undertake journeys in search of a truththat will preserve their glory. While Gilgamesh searches for immortality, Oedipus searches for a different fate, both, fearing death. However, only one reaches their their goal. Similarly, both figures are kings; rulers of communities which reflect their ruling. In Gilgamesh s epic, the people knew of his endeavors and had to live with his sporadic acts because he was their rulerand accepted him as so. As declared, Day and night his behavior became overbearing. He was their shepherd, yet powerful, superb, knowledgeable and expert, Gilgamesh would not leave young girls alone, (199), and it is a positive reflection of his ruling due to the community accepting his antics through their approval of his leadership. On the other hand, Oedipus ruling was a negative concept on the fate of the people. The people see his flaws and have their doubts of his rule once they realize he is the root of their suffering, yet do not fully accept the reality of the situation. By exploring the early, median, and final years of the life of Adolf Hitler, one can begin to fully understand the disappointments that filled his existence. The disappointments that Adolf had experienced throughout his life started during the early early years of his life, beginning with his childhood and continuing throughout his adolescent and early adult years. Comparing and Contrasting Epic of Gilgamesh and Noah s Ark Many cultures have stories of a great flood, and probably the best known story is of Noah s Ark. The next most notable is the Sumerian story of Ut Napishtim found in the Epic of Gilgamesh. In the ancient Babylonian depiction of the flood story, the god Enlil creates a flood to destroy a noisy mankind that is disturbing his sleep. Gilgamesh is told by another god, Ea, to build an ark (Monack 1). The Epic of Gilgamesh has broadly the same structure and plot as Noah s Ark, suggesting the possibility that the Biblical account has drawn influence from the archaeologically older Sumerian depiction. However the Biblical record depicts the vessel as rectangular, measuring 450 ft. in length, 75 ft. in width, and 45 ft. in height (Fowler 2). Naval Academy graduate and engineer Chuck Missler maintains that the Biblical dimensions are certainly the more reasonable of the two measurements. Interestingly enough, he also notes the 6:1 length to width ratio of the Biblical ark is amazingly similar to that of modern day ships (Fowler 2). More differences between the stories include only minor details. Noah only invited his family and the animals onboard, but Ut Napishtim invited additional people such as a pilot and some skilled workmen. Noah s ark landed on Mt. Ararat, but Ut Napishtim s ark landed on Mt. Nisir, which is only a few 100 miles away. In the Babylonian account, the water came only in the form of rain; however in the Biblical account water came from beneath the earth in addition to rain. Noah released a raven once and a dove twice, but Ut Napishtim released three different birds; a dove, a swallow, and a raven (Comparison). Perhaps the differences were intentional in order to make the two stories more unique in their own way. Perhaps the differences are simply two different people s renditioning of the same story. However, despite the minor differences there are many similarities between the two stories. Indeed the similarities have led some to speculate that these ancient flood stories were ... Mr. Goleman argues this approach is particularly valuable when trying to heighten team harmony, increase morale, improve communication or repair broken trust in an organization. • 19. Persuasive Essay On Same Sex Adoption One day I was looking out my window, watching my boys play. I started thinking about how they are the future of the world. They are the engineers, presidents, congressman, businessman, and lawyers of tomorrow. Later that day, I saw a news article discussing the issue of same sex adoption. As I watched I thought to myself, where did we forget that it was about the kids? So, out of curiosity, I began to look up some statistics about kids that have no homes, the ones that are waiting for good families. I started wondering if it is about the kids, then why, do we care about same sex adoptions at all. There are two sides to the argument of same sex adoption, and to really get a feel for the issue you must understand both sides. The source of the river begins from Bartley, 109m above sea level, and joins to its end at Eling, flowing into Southampton Water. The river has a length of 27km and a catchment area of 40sqkm. It is a tributary of the River Test. The river bed contains of a mixture of sand, silt and clay which can change as the river behaves due to erosion, transportation and deposition. • 21. Pros And Cons Of Capitalism One form of capitalism is welfare capitalism. For a long period of time benefits have been given to people to help them with food and basic necessities, without a charge. This service is funded through the form of taxation. This helps people with disabilities or jobless, and it helps people that are in a deep form of poverty. Some pros of welfare include: providing assistance when families needit the most. Sometimes family members lose their jobs or a sudden death happens to where they find themselves needing the assistance the most. By offering an assistance like this, people can get the helpthey need, so that it can help them get back on their feet. Another pro is, welfare can help with reducing crime. Sometimes in desperate situations, people find themselves doing whatever they can, even if it means breaking the law. This way by providing the help that they need, this will reduce some of that desperation and preventing the crime. Last but not least, it helps the children. The amount of kids that would experience hunger without the help of welfare, would be extremely significant. This way we can help world hunger one child at a time. It s really hard to say whether welfare is a good form of capitalism or not because there are so many good pros and cons that make this topic so debatable. • 24. Honor And Glory In The Iliad, By Homer The Iliad, by Homer, is an epic poem that portrays a 9 year war between the Trojans and the Greeks. The objective of the war was to retrieve Helen, the wife of Menelaus, from Paris, a Trojan prince, but it resulted in a brutal, prolonged battle. The Iliad begins with the ire of Achilles who decides to sit out of the 9 year war because he is unwilling to fight for the Agamemnon any further, as Agamemnon is, in the eyes of Achilles, a coward who is unwilling to fight his own war. In the Greek world Honor and Glory were essential elements in defining the worthiness of a man. Honor took form in taking the reputation of another, and Glory took form in recognition of an accolade. Hence, In The Iliad, Homer degrades the ideology of Honor and Glory through Achilles rejection to participate in the war. In The Iliad, the tenet of Honor, by the recognition of accomplishments, in the Greek world is shown through the conversations between Glaucus and Sarpedon about the 9 year war. In book 12, Sarpedon attempts to convince Glaucus to fighting the Greeks by saying, But as it is, death is everywhere, in more shapes than we can count, and since no mortal is immune or can escape, Let us go forward either to give to another man or to get glory from him (12.338 342). While content on broadcast networks such as ABC and NBC is regulated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), premium channels like the Home Box Office (HBO) do not fall under their jurisdiction and therefore do not need to obey such regulations (Title 47). A prime example of graphic violenceon televisionthat falls outside of the FCC s purview is found in the HBO hit series Game of Thrones. The ninth episode of the third season of Game of Thrones, The Rains of Castamere , is well known as one of the most violent episodes in the show. This is mostly attributed to a specific scene in this episode, known by the book readers as the Red Wedding. The scene is one of the most violent scenes in all of Game of Thrones history. The Red Wedding scene was quite controversial after it aired in 2013, with some arguing that it was too violent, even for an HBO television show. Others stated that they thought the violence was necessary considering the historical references mentioned, and the way the book was written. I believe that the purpose of the violence and gore found in Game of Thrones, and more specifically The Rains of Castamere , is to replicate the way modern audiences think of the Dark Ages. It also stands to entice the original readers of the novels who would expect the violence of the show to live up to that in the books. The violence in The Rains of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Obama had to deal with interest groups all throughout his presidency, whether it was dealing with Congress or his interaction with committees. Over time interest groups have taken on a larger and more important role in government. The interaction between interest groups and Obama played an influential role in shaping his presidency. Special interest groups are a group of people, usually formally organized that share a common concern and wish to influence public policy in some way. The goal of all interest groups is to affect government policy for themselves or to further their causes. A goal they have could be an exclusive policy that benefits group members or one segment of society or a policy that affects a larger group such as the public as a whole. An example of an exclusive policy is government subsidies for farmers and an example of a larger effecting policy is improving air quality. The main method special interest groups use to accomplish their goals is lobbying, which is trying to influence decisions made by legislators or other government officials. What makes this description of Vardaman s confused thoughts so dynamic is Faulkner s usage of short sentences that are juxtaposed with long sentences. The short sentences state what he thinks is right, but then the next sentence flows from what Darl said to what Dewy Dell said, and by the end of that sentence he wonders how any of it pieces together. That mesh of different ideas into one long sentence parallels with the mess of confusion about everything in Vardaman s life. Along with complex sentence structure, Faulkner uses complicated diction to express the character s emotions. You kilt my maw! (Faulkner 48). The slang is used by Faulkner to create the effect that Vardaman s confused thoughts and emotions are directly going from him to the reader. One of Faulkner s stylistic purposes of this is to make the reader intensely aware of the feelings and needs of each family member ( Notable American Novelists 451). He does this by making it seem as though the character wrote the words instead of Faulkner himself, which in a sense draws a deeper understanding of the character s emotions for the reader. Faulkner s word choice and sentence structure emphasizes the tone of Vardaman s experiences through his identity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since this revision was made there have been further changes to the Act trying to create the best set of rules for CanCon to be broadcasted (Dewing, 2011). CanCon is an outdated concept that is causing consumers to switch to other forms of media. The CanCon rules cannot determine what is considered Canadian and they cannot keep up with the ever changing forms of media. Canadian producers are only getting a slim portion of the industry even with the rules in place. Therefore CanCon rules should be totally eliminated. While technology is getting better and people have begun streaming different forms of media online, the government has been slow on updating the rules that regulate broadcasted Canadian Content (Mejaski, 2011). Due to the rapid development of digital technology CanCon rules are now outdated. This is causing the distinction between broadcasting and telecommunications to be blurred. New technology has resulted in fragmentation. This refers to the idea that there are is a growing number of courses that now have to be regulated by CanCon (Dewig, 2011). Harris, a 37 year veteran in the highly competitive American airlineindustry, was given the challenging task of returning the struggling airline to profitability. When he was appointed, many Canadians were outraged that an American would lead a privatized Canadian company and feared this decision to be a step towards the impending Americanization of the Canadian culture. • 52. Implementing Devolution And Strategic Hrm Essay MGMT 405 Critical Review Introduction (Bainbridge, 2015), analyses the point of devolution of people management to the line. Further he looks at how rationales and mediators can control how well a devolution process and strategic HR can be implemented into an organisation. Using a qualitative research technique, the author proves that the rationales have a direct impact on the mediators when it comes to the implementation of devolution into an organisation. The article by Bainbridge (2015) doesn t take into consideration that the HR managers themselves need to have the credibility and respected of the CEO and line managers to be able to effectively implement and maintain the devolution. My critique is that many organisations are not able to implement devolution and strategic HRM because the HR managers themselves do not have the needed credibility in the eyes of the CEO and line managers to make a success of it. Without the credibility HR ends up playing an advisory and administrative role and the CEO and line managers run the strategic aspect. Thesis statement Bainbridge (2015), states that in order to successfully implement devolution of people management to the line and thereby make HRM strategic within an organisation, there has to be flowing relationship between devolutional rationales, HR function attributes, line manager focused HR practices and people management effectiveness. These arguments are reasonable but the key component of credibility of HRM ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
