3. HISTORY OF NATIONAL BANK OF PAKISTAN (NBP)
 Established on November 8, 1949
 Established under the National Bank of Pakistan Ordinance 1949 and was
100% govt.-owned.
 NBP acted as an agent of the Central Bank wherever the State Bank did not
have its own Branch.
 Its first branches were in jute growing areas in East Pakistan

6. HISTORY OF HABIB BANK LIMITED (HBL)
 On 25th of August 1941, Habib Bank inaugurated its operations with the
bank’s first branch in Bombay.
 Establish in 1947 in Karachi
 First commercial bank of the newly formed Islamic Republic of Pakistan
 HBL was nationalized in 1974
 It was HBL that introduced products such as Credit Cards, ATMs, Travelers
Cheques etc., to the Pakistani market.
