C4C dedicates this edition of C4C Federal Exchange to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. – An Iconic Civil Rights Activist, A Man of Service. The January 2015 edition of the Exchange features Mr. Felton Batiste of ASKFMB; civil rights activists Ms. Janet Howard and Ms. Joyce E. Megginson and an article by Mr. Douglas Kinan on Fergusons In America.
National Health Care Reform: The Proposals and the Politicssoder145
Presentation by Elizabeth Lukanen at the University of Minnesota Academic Health Center's Student Leadership Summit in Minneapolis, MN, December 5, 2009.
One of our most attended and discussed meetings of the year. Our Council members have assigned themselves an initiative from the November ballot to research, evaluate, present, and recommend a position for the SWCLC to adopt. Discussion on the pro's and con's of each proposition, along with who supports and who funds, is always a lively and illuminating review that takes us behind the simple (and sometimes misleading) title statement.
* What's the truth behind the $4 billion 'veterans' housing bill? (Prop 1)
* Who benefits from tax portability? (Prop 5)
* Should the gas tax be repealed? (Prop 6)
* Is it time to do away with daylight savings time? (Prop 7)
* Does rent control contribute to more affordable housing? Prop 10)
Better Crazy Than Sick: Regulating Mental Health With or Without the Affordab...Craig B. Garner
This presentation offers and overview of the mental health system in California, from psychiatric acute care hospitals to drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers.

As a practice, UX is confused about what is a short cut, what is a convention, and what is a best practice. Fortunately, the process on this project revealed where all of those were broken for the target users: people with low literacy.

In a May 9, 2024 paper, Juri Opitz from the University of Zurich, along with Shira Wein and Nathan Schneider form Georgetown University, discussed the importance of linguistic expertise in natural language processing (NLP) in an era dominated by large language models (LLMs).
The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.
