Effect of Minimally Invasive Low-intensity laser therapy (MILLT) and non-ster...Nina Anigbogu
Disc hernia occurs when the soft central portion of an intervertebral disc bulges out beyond the damaged outer rings of the disc. Patients present with back pain, leg pain, or lower extremity weakness. Treatment is individualized but may include NSAIDs, narcotics, nerve medications, cortisone injections, or minimally invasive low-intensity laser therapy (MILLT). A study compared MILLT to conservative treatment using NSAIDs in 600 patients over 5 years. Results found that 76% of MILLT patients reported reduced pain within 4-5 treatments, and 85% saw decreased disc herniation on MRI after 3 months, indicating MILLT may produce longer-lasting relief than other treatments.

The McKenzie Method is a system of mechanical diagnosis and therapy developed by Robin McKenzie in the 1950s. It uses repeated end-range movements and postural adjustments to reduce pain and improve function. Research has shown the McKenzie Method to be more effective at reducing pain and disability from back pain compared to other treatments like pain medication or massage. It also results in fewer healthcare visits long-term. The McKenzie Method relies on classifying patients into syndromes based on their response to movements to determine a treatment plan.
Exercise Therapy in the Management of Low Back PainOlubusola Johnson
This document discusses exercise therapy for the management of low back pain. It provides background on low back pain, noting that most episodes are non-specific and occur with normal activities. It reviews the epidemiology of low back pain and classifications by duration and etiology. The document then discusses the anatomy of core muscles like the transversus abdominis and multifidus. It reviews evidence on exercises for flexibility, strengthening, core stabilization and their effectiveness in treating low back pain according to studies. Core stabilization exercises targeting the transversus abdominis and multifidus are emphasized as important for both treatment and prevention of recurrent low back pain.
IMPORTANT ROLE OF A PHYSIOTHERAPIST IN SOCIETY RemasteredNavaneethcrshna
A physiotherapist plays an important role in society by helping people recover from injuries and regain mobility. The document traces the history and evolution of physiotherapy from ancient practices of massage and exercise to treat patients, to its establishment as a formal profession in the late 19th century. It discusses how physiotherapy has developed specialized techniques using tools like electrical stimulators to treat an increasingly wide range of musculoskeletal issues and enable patients to return to their regular activities.
The document discusses aging and rehabilitation, covering several key points:
1. It outlines different categories and types of aging, and defines optimal aging as maintaining high functional capacity and quality of life without disease.
2. Physical activity is recommended to reduce health risks in aging, and a comprehensive exercise program incorporating aerobic, resistance, and flexibility training provides benefits.
3. When prescribing rehabilitation exercises, a personalized approach is needed to consider an individual's needs, health status, and motivation levels.
4. A biopsychosocial model of care that considers medical, physical, and psychological factors is recommended to effectively treat chronic pain conditions in aging patients.
The document discusses shoulder pain, specifically subacromial pain/non-specific shoulder pain. It notes that shoulder pain is prevalent, can impact daily activities, and for 40% of patients the pain is ongoing or recurrent after 12 months. Imaging and physical exams are not always reliable in diagnosing the source of pain. Exercise appears to be the most promising intervention for shoulder pain, though what type or amount of exercise is unclear. A proposed intervention focuses on teaching patients self-management skills and a home exercise program with 1-5 sessions from a physiotherapist and proactive follow-up.
The McKenzie Method is a system of diagnosing and treating spinal pain developed in the 1960s. It focuses on classifying pain based on responses to specific movements and positions. The goal is to centralize pain away from extremities and abolish it completely through repeated end-range movements informed by the assessment. Studies show centralization occurs in 70% of subacute and 52% of chronic back pain patients. The McKenzie Method emphasizes patient education and active involvement to restore function and minimize visits through self-treatment guided by therapists.
Mckenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy.3.15Juhi Gupta
The document summarizes the key aspects of the McKenzie Method for assessing and treating musculoskeletal pain. It was developed in the 1950s as a self-care approach involving repeated movements or positions to centralize pain. The method aims to classify patients into postural, dysfunction, or derangement syndromes and prescribe direction-specific exercises based on each patient's pattern of symptoms with movement. When used correctly, the goal is to centralize pain, improve function, prevent recurrences, and require fewer medical visits over time.
Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy in Peripheral joint pathology: McKenzie wayjonathan kefas
This document provides an overview of McKenzie Method for treating peripheral joint pathology. It begins with a brief history of McKenzie Method and explains its basic concepts. It then discusses the functional anatomy and classifications of peripheral joints. The classifications in McKenzie Method include postural syndrome, dysfunction syndrome, and derangement syndrome. It also describes directional preference, indications, treatment procedures, and literature supporting the use of McKenzie Method for extremity problems like tennis elbow, knee osteoarthritis, and adhesive capsulitis. The conclusion recommends adoption of McKenzie Method by therapists to promote patient independence through movement-based exercises.
This document discusses the management of shoulder stiffness from various causes such as adhesive capsulitis and postoperative stiffness. Adhesive capsulitis is characterized by fibroblastic proliferation in the shoulder capsule similar to Dupuytren's contracture. Risk factors include diabetes. Non-operative management includes physiotherapy, steroid injections, hydrodilation, and nerve blocks, with hydrodilation providing relief in 75% of cases. For postoperative stiffness, the majority can be treated non-operatively but some may require manipulation under anesthesia or arthroscopic capsular release. Post-operative physical therapy is important for recovery.
The document discusses lower back pain, its causes, treatment, and prevention. It notes that lower back pain can be acute or chronic, and can result from issues like muscle strains, injuries, poor posture, degenerative changes, or herniated discs. Treatment may include NSAIDs, corticosteroids, epidural injections, cold/heat therapy, chiropractic manipulation, physical therapy, or stem cell therapy. Prevention involves maintaining good posture and taking breaks from prolonged sitting.
Physical therapy exercises for low back painHealthQuest
Physical therapy exercises are highly acclaimed solutions for low back pain. Under proper guidance, you can undertake various physical therapy exercises to reduce pain and bring back muscle strength.
Stroke rehabilitation involves physiotherapy beginning soon after the stroke occurs to regain function and mobility. Physiotherapists evaluate the patient to determine disabilities to address, like weakness, limited range of motion, or walking problems. Rehabilitation focuses on overcoming problems through exercises and can continue long after hospitalization with home programs. One challenge is learned nonuse where patients avoid using affected limbs, so physiotherapists teach ways to manage without full limb function or regain ability. Practice is important to relearn skills like switching tasks.
This document provides an overview of a seminar on integrating manual therapy and orthopedic massage for complicated shoulder conditions. The seminar teaches a 12-step protocol for assessing and treating various shoulder issues, including techniques for addressing muscle imbalances, myofascial restrictions, joint restrictions, and more. The goal is to restore normal shoulder function and relieve pain through a structural approach that balances tight and weak muscles.

Spondylitis is a condition caused by inflammation of the vertebrae in the spinal cord. It often causes chronic back and neck pain, making daily life difficult. The vertebral joints become inflamed and may fuse together over time, leading to a rigid spine. Symptoms include loss of coordination, stiffness, tingling, numbness, and difficulty moving. Doctors diagnose spondylitis through medical history, physical exam, and imaging tests of the spine. Treatment aims to reduce pain and stiffness through methods like realigning the vertebrae to slow the degenerative process. Lifestyle changes such as quitting smoking, sleeping on a firm mattress, and maintaining good posture can help manage symptoms.
Back pain, whether it lasts a day, a month, or a year, has most of us looking for a way out of it. While back pain is a common concern, the good news is that most back pain is self-limited and will resolve with conservative care.

Non-invasive methods for ETCO2 measurement include capnometry and capnography. Capnometry provides a numerical value for ETCO2. In contrast, capnography delivers a more comprehensive measurement that is displayed in both graphical (waveform) and numerical form.
