David Matthews, Director of Engineering at Uturn Data Solutions, spoke about the AWS Well-Architected Framework and how to use it to improve your business' cloud environment.
In this presentation, we will tackle the 'Operational Excellence Pillar' of the AWS Well-Architected Framework. This pillar focuses on running and monitoring systems that deliver business value, and continually improving processes and procedures.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has spent years working with thousands of companies across all industries to create the most comprehensive collection of best practices and guidance known as the Well-Architected Framework. This resource is available for organizations undergoing a cloud transformation who want to ensure their success on AWS.
Topics Include:
- How operational excellence is a consequence of culture.
- The six design principles for operational excellence in the cloud.
- The focus areas of cloud operational excellence.
- What operational excellence looks like in practice.
This document introduces the AWS Well-Architected Framework, which provides best practices for architecting systems on AWS. The framework focuses on five pillars - operational excellence, security, reliability, performance efficiency, and cost optimization. It is intended to help technology teams evaluate their architectures and identify areas for improvement by answering a set of questions within each pillar. The definitions section describes the key terms used in the framework.
This document summarizes a proposal from Singlepoint Solutions Ltd. for an AWS Well-Architected Review. The review is a free consultation where a Singlepoint AWS Certified Architect evaluates a customer's AWS workload against best practices. The architect identifies areas of risk and opportunity for improvement. Singlepoint then provides a report with recommendations and an action plan to optimize the customer's AWS architecture and usage over time. The goal is to help customers design secure, high-performing, reliable, and cost-efficient cloud infrastructure on AWS.

(ISM313) How Delaware North Migrated 90+ Apps in Four MonthsAmazon Web Services
Delaware North is a major presence in the food and hospitality industry, serving more than 500 million customers at 200 venues around the world each year. The company decided to move almost all of its data center operations to AWS. The migration helped Delaware North reduce its server footprint by 91 percent, achieve a projected cost savings of $3.5 million over five years, improve PCI compliance and disaster recovery, and vastly streamline the delivery of new services and solutions internally and to its business customers. This session is for executives and enterprise architects who want to learn how a large enterprise organization adapted their teams, tooling, and methodology to successfully migrate their business-critical functions to the cloud. You will learn about the tried and tested methodology we used including: the four main stages of the migration factory; tooling for discovery, team collaboration, build and migration; how we worked alongside the Delaware North security team and their external QSAs to agree on the approach for adhering to compliance and regulations; how we developed scripts to automate as much of the workload as possible including the auditing of dangerous security groups; and the team and skill sets we needed for the migration to be successful. This session is sponsored by Cloudreach.
The document discusses various strategies for migrating applications and databases to AWS, including rehosting/lift and shift, replatforming/lift and reshape, repurchasing, and refactoring/rearchitecting. Rehosting involves moving existing applications to AWS with few changes. Replatforming automates some database management tasks using AWS services. Repurchasing replaces on-premise software with SaaS options. Refactoring rearchitects applications for microservices and real-time analytics using services like AWS RDS, data lakes, and machine learning.

This document discusses governance at scale in AWS environments. It notes that AWS adoption typically starts bottom-up but central IT may also adopt AWS mirroring on-premises architectures. The key to governance at scale is to meet organizational requirements, scale effectively, and allow direct use of AWS services. It recommends adopting a minimally encumbered AWS account approach and automating account provisioning, budget enforcement, and compliance to achieve governance at scale without reducing cloud agility. Specific recommendations include using consolidated admin accounts, IAM roles, AWS Config rules, and integrating security and operations tools into infrastructure provisioning.
AWS Landing Zone - Architecting Security and GovernanceAkesh Patil

CAKE: Sharing Slices of Confidential Data on BlockchainClaudio Di Ciccio
Presented at the CAiSE 2024 Forum, Intelligent Information Systems, June 6th, Limassol, Cyprus.
Synopsis: Cooperative information systems typically involve various entities in a collaborative process within a distributed environment. Blockchain technology offers a mechanism for automating such processes, even when only partial trust exists among participants. The data stored on the blockchain is replicated across all nodes in the network, ensuring accessibility to all participants. While this aspect facilitates traceability, integrity, and persistence, it poses challenges for adopting public blockchains in enterprise settings due to confidentiality issues. In this paper, we present a software tool named Control Access via Key Encryption (CAKE), designed to ensure data confidentiality in scenarios involving public blockchains. After outlining its core components and functionalities, we showcase the application of CAKE in the context of a real-world cyber-security project within the logistics domain.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
