Australia is an island continent located in the Southern Hemisphere, so its seasons are opposite of those in Europe. It is the sixth largest country by land area and has a population of around 22 million people. Aboriginal Australians have lived in Australia for over 40,000 years but now only represent 1% of the population. Some of Australia's major cities include Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, and Brisbane, with Sydney being the largest city and home to landmarks like the Sydney Opera House. Australia has unique wildlife like kangaroos and wombats as well as dangerous animals like snakes and spiders.
