• The surface of the Commonwealth of Australia is 7,686,850
km2. Continent and adjacent islands are on the plate
Indoaustraliana. The island is surrounded by the Indian Ocean
and the Pacific Ocean. Section of the Indian Ocean in South
Australia is known locally as the Southern Ocean.
3. CLIMATE
• Australia has a temperate climate but this can vary due to the
size of the continent.
• Northern states have warm weather most of the time while
the southern states have colder winters.
• December to February is summer, from March to May is
autumn, from June to August is winter and spring is
September to November.
4. FLORA
• The Australian flora is native vegetation namesake continent,
Tasmania and smaller surrounding islands. These form the
floral kingdom called Australia.

animals: 83% of mammals, 89% of reptiles, 90% of fish and
insects and 93% of amphibians that live on the continent are
endemic to Australia.
