2. Front Cover
• The Digi-pak in general in covered in bright colours and fun
images. This is typical convention of the pop genre and
attracts the audience to want to buy the digi-pak. The front
cover of the Digi-pak consists of mid shot of the star image
Pharell as well as three other women. This shot of the
woman conforms to the genre of music in which the about
is about. As this album is entirely dedicated to women. The
cover also has a sticker on the front, informing the
audience the the album features the song ‘Happy” which is
a way to gain album purchases. The single ‘Happy’ was
released beforehand and became one of the most
successful songs to date. So it is a way to show a
connection between the song and the album. Which will
make the audience believe that all the music will be as
good as the song ‘Happy’, encouraging and meaning more
people will be more likely to buy the album. The sateen that
Pharell is in is called the ‘Male gaze’ it is a way to attract
more females into buying the album. he sue of his outfit
being sunglasses and a dressing represents his lavish
lifestyle and its also back dup bu the use of him being
surrounded by women. He is in the largest frame which
emphasises his star image and brand image. The use of
the album name being written in bright yellow writing is
effective and helps it to stand out, this is typically
conventions of the pop genre. This is linked with the high
key lighting used in the picture to attract the audience and
allow the album to stand out.
3. Inside cover and CD
• On the inside cover, on the left side
there is another mid shot of women,
similar to the front cover. On the right
side, consists a college of different
women. This consist of mainly close up
shots. Thus reinforced the iconography
of the album which is a dedication to
women entirely. It also has a unisex
appeal which would appear to a larger
target audience and subsequently lead
to more people buying the album. The
use of girls also suggests equality
between the genders. The CD disc is
orange with white text and simply states
the title ‘GIRL’ this is a good
promotional technique as it reminds
people of the albums name and what
the Digi-pak is all about.
4. Back Cover
• The back cover is another variation of
the front cover, this time they are
sitting down at the edge of the pool
with their feet in it. This emphasises
the lavish lifestyle. The colour scheme
links with the rest of the album having
a light pink background and bright
yellow text, the is very effective as it
stands out again and follows the pop
tone that the album is trying to
promote. It also includes the track list
in order from left to right. This subverts
to the typical track list layout from top
to bottom, it was effective as it gives
more emphasis to the wide shot on the
back of the album. It also identifies
who the artist is and what he is all
about.
