Audience
Applying the concept of audience to my teaser trailer
Target Audience

The purpose of our teaser trailer is to entice the
audience to want to see the film. I think our audience is
mass, mixed gender and on the majority aged 15-24, our
trailer also has a realistic and relatable subject matter to
15-24 year olds i.e. experimenting with drugs and
alcohol, romantic relationships, starting college etc. so
our teaser trailer would probably attract an audience
with similar life style and attitudes.
Taking a Theoretical Approach

When creating our teaser trailer, we wanted a receptive theoretical
approach, we wanted the audience to be enticed by the trailer and
have them wanting to know what happens next. I think Stuart Halls
theory of encoding and decoding applies strongly to our media text;
the viewer is meant to decode the meaning of our film based on their
ideologies and experiences, for example some viewers of our film may
take a preferred reading of our trailer, these viewers maybe younger
because they may have a similar lifestyle to the characters in our
teaser trailer so they agree with the representation. But some viewers,
possibly parents, may take an oppositional reading of our trailer
because they don’t want there children to be influenced by the
violence, drugs use and partying shown in our trailer.
Conclusion

I think our trailer was fairly successful at appealing to
our chosen audience, in our teaser trailer feedback from
our target audience we received positive reviews
especially within our use of sound, special effects and
use of variety of shots and scenes they remained
excited and interested by the trailer and on the majority
all said they would see the final film.
