Audience For The Final Task
Who would be the audience for our
             short film?
With the responses to the survey I created, I realised all of the participant who enjoyed
the film were either 15 to 24 years of age. This was the main factor when deciding who
the audience was going to be, for the main task. From the very beginning I wanted to
cater to elder teens (16-19), and the results from the survey reaffirmed my decision.
Thrillers are difficult films to give an age rating to, as most of the thriller aspect is
created because there is a threat of violence, however sometimes the violence is only
hinted at. As a result the ratings range from twelve's with films like ‘Eagle Eye’ to
eighteens with films like ‘Pulp Fiction’. The short film we made will probably be rated a
15 as there may be one scenes of strong violence as the film progresses.
Tom is 17, he is currently positioned in audience
category E, as he is a casual worker, and still in
fulltime education. Tom enjoys thrillers and
action movies, he prefers watching films at the
cinema, as he believes watching thrillers on a big
screen can add to the suspense, and is it is
something that just can’t be recreated at home.
He feels A complicated plot, like the one of that
in inception, is sometimes fun to watch but on
the whole Tom likes to watch movies that aren’t
particularly mentally taxing. Social activities
include attending movie nights, with a couple of
mates and pizza.
How was the particular audience
              addressed
Our audience was addressed in two ways: we had a
basic, yet interesting plot: Two opposing teams
trying to obtain something of great importance, in
our film this information was located in a briefcase.
Steering clear of other plots that have been recently
used to the point of exhaustion like kidnapping in
films like ‘Taken’ and ‘Safe’. The second way was to
throw our audience straight into the action so to
speak, there was no long drawn out dialogue scene,
that would potentially make the audience lose
interest before the film had even begun.
