(ATS4-DEV10) Creating Pipeline Pilot Components by Wrapping Third-Party ToolsBIOVIA
Although we’d like Pipeline Pilot to be your Enterprise’s complete solution, there are many tools out there that offer functionality not currently available. Sometimes all you need is a one-off call to the tool, but other times it may make sense to “componentize” the tool for your users. This session will demonstrate different methods for wrapping up this functionality into an easy-to-deploy component that your users can then integrate into their protocols. Because different types of tools require different types of wrapping, we will cover different methods, possibly to include wrapping on-server tools, remotely deployed tools, and web service-based tools.
(ATS4-DEV04) Protocols as RESTful Services and RESTful URL RoutingBIOVIA
Accelrys Enterprise Platform 9.0 includes some significant enhancements to support the deployment of Pipeline Pilot protocols as web services.
This session will bring you up to date on the different styles of web service and options for deployment to end users and web service clients. You will also learn about techniques for publishing services using a standard REST-based model. The session will focus on practical demonstrations of taking Pipeline Pilot protocols and delivering them as REST-based web services.
(ATS3-DEV04) Introduction to Pipeline Pilot Protocol Development for DevelopersBIOVIA
An overview of techniques for building Pipeline Pilot protocols, using the languages and paradigms familiar to software developers. Sound engineering principles should be applied to the development of protocols, so this session will discuss concepts like modularity and re-use, minimizing side effects, clarity of interfaces, multi-threading, version control. We will also cover the data pipelining architecture of Pipeline Pilot and how that affects the approach to protocol authoring.
(ATS4-DEV05) Pipeline Pilot 9.0 Advanced Protocol Development TopicsBIOVIA
There are many new features and enhancements in Pipeline Pilot 9.0 targeting advanced protocol developers. This session will cover new HashTable values, parameter and property Meta-data, LinkType parameters and other client and PilotScript enhancements.
(ATS3-PLAT01) Recent developments in Pipeline PilotBIOVIA
This session will review significant enhancements to Pipeline Pilot in recent releases. Areas covered are: Professional client, administration, security, integration, databases, and collections (chemistry, next gen sequencing, documents and text, statistics, and imaging).
(ATS3-PLAT06) Handling “Big Data” with Pipeline Pilot (MapReduce/NoSQL)BIOVIA
Pipeline Pilot has wrangled large volumes of scientific data for many years. The emergence of "Big Data" challenges in other fields has brought many new tools and techniques to the table. This session will demonstrate various approaches to handling big data in Pipeline Pilot and show now Pipeline Pilot can integrate with "NoSQL" data stores such as Apache Cassandra and MongoDB. The second half of this session will be focus on audience participation and open discussion around big data tools and techniques to help inform our community and our future product road map.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

5. What is a component?
• A Pipeline Pilot component is a unit of useful functionality
that can be built into a Pipeline Pilot protocol.
• Re-usability is the key for level of granularity.
6. More about components
• A component is displayed with a representational icon and any
combination of the 3 standard ports.
• It has zero, one or more parameters, organized for usability,
whose settings are used to modify run time behavior.
• A component and its parameters are self documenting.
7. Why ‘code’ a new component?
• First see if a non-coding approach will work
– Specialization
– PilotScript
– Subprotocols
• Scripting languages
– Perl, Python, VBScript, Dynamic Java + Dynamic .NET
– R, as a more custom example
• Compiled
– Java
– .NET
• Integration Driver
8. Component model (State Machine)
Protocol event triggers:
• onInitialize(context) Context
• onProcess (context, data)
Data

• onFinalize (context)

10. Component categories
• Components generally fall into one of a number of roles e.g. Reader, Filter, Calculator, Viewer, Merger.
• Within a category, there is a specific use pattern for component state and data record processing. E.G.
Reader Calculator Merger/Sorter
ReadyForInputData
ReadyForNewData ReadyForInputData …
ReadyForNewData ReadyForInputData ReadyForInputData
… … ReadyForNewData
ReadyForNewData ReadyForInputData …
DoneProcessingData ReadyForNewData
DoneProcessing
There are conventions for naming and parameterization for each component
category, described in the Component Development Guide.
11. Component APIs
• Similarities and differences
– Java, .NET, Perl, Python
– API Documentation
• Where to find it
• Debugging
• Object model

13. Summary
• Multiple ways to build components
• Most advanced approach is to code your own
– Specialized integration components for various language options
• Component interface
– Context, Data Record, Ports
– Object models
– Manage component state for the behavior you need
• Developers Tab in Pipeline Pilot Help Center
– Server-side Integration/Language-based Integration
