Rihards Olups - Encrypting Daemon Traffic With Zabbix 3.0Zabbix
Are you paranoid? Even if you are not, it might be a good idea to encrypt your email. Important documents. Communication. While monitoring data is not secret in many cases, transmitting it in plaintext over Internet does make some people nervous. And now, with Zabbix 3.0, there's a built-in way to encrypt communication between components, including Zabbix server, proxy, agent, get and sender. Yes, them all. In this short talk we'll learn about the available modes, supported libraries and how to configure it all to still make sense a few years later.
Zabbix Conference 2015
Nomad is popular as an efficient, lightweight container orchestrator. But a truly efficient, lightweight deployment environment can only be built on a minimal Linux that is designed specifically for running containers.
In this talk, we introduce Flatcar Container Linux to the Hashicorp/Nomad community. Already well known and widely deployed by Kubernetes users, Flatcar works just as well – or perhaps even better! – for Nomad.
Flatcar Container Linux is a secure, immutable, auto-updating, lightweight Linux operating system. This makes Flatcar a perfect match for Linux containers running on Nomad: nodes will update automatically and stay secure in a simple way, without the administrator having to do the heavy lifting.
This talk will explain best practices for deploying Nomad on Flatcar and demonstrate a Nomad cluster running on Flatcar.
Using Apache Spark to Solve Sessionization Problem in Batch and StreamingDatabricks
Analyzing sessions can bring a lot of useful feedback about what works and what does not. But implementing them is not easy because of data issues and operational costs that you will meet sooner or later. In this talk I will present 2 approaches to compute sessions with Apache Spark and AWS services. The first one will use batch and therefore, Spark SQL, whereas the second streaming and Structured Streaming module.
During the talk I will cover different problems you may encounter when creating sessions, like late data, incomplete dataset, duplicated data, reprocessing or fault-tolerance aspects. I will try to solve them and show how Apache Spark features and AWS services (EMR, S3) can help to do that. After the talk you should be aware of the problems you may encounter with session pipelines and understand how to address them with Apache Spark features like watermarks, state store, checkpoints and how to integrate your code with a cloud provider.

In the “Sharing is caring” spirit, we came up with a series of internal talks called, By Showmaxers, for Showmaxers, and we recently started making them public. There are already talks about Networks, and Android app building, available.
Our latest talk focuses on PostgreSQL Terminology, and is led by Angus Dippenaar. He worked on Showmax projects from South Africa, and moved to work with us in Prague, Czech Republic.
The talk was meant to fill some holes in our knowledge of PostgreSQL. So, it guides you through the basic PostgreSQL terminology you need to understand when reading the official documentation and blogs.
You may learn what all these POstgreSQL terms mean:
Command, query, local or global object, non-schema local objects, relation, tablespace, database, database cluster, instance and its processes like postmaster or backend; session, connection, heap, file segment, table, TOAST, tuple, view, materialized (view), transaction, commit, rollback, index, write-ahead log, WAL record, WAL file, checkpoint, Multi-version concurrency control (MVCC), dead tuples (dead rows), or transaction exhaustion.
The terminology is followed by a demonstration of transaction exhaustion.
Get the complete explanation and see the demonstration of the transaction exhaustion and of tuple freezing in the talk on YouTube: https://youtu.be/E-RkI3Ws7gM.
Slides used at CNCF Paris Meetup 02/15/18.
This covers how we setup Prometheus at Deezer and his architecture. We also give some configuration examples and tweaks.

From ATT&CKcon 3.0
By Jonny Johnson, Red Canary and Olaf Hartong, FalconForce
As defenders, we often find ourselves wanting "more" data. But why? Will this new data provide a lot of value or is it for a very niche circumstance? How many attacks does it apply to? Are we leveraging previous data sources to their full capability? Within this talk, Olaf and Jonny will walk through different data sources they leverage more than most when analyzing data within environments, why they do, and what these data sources do and can provide in terms of value to a defender.

It seems like new APIs for the web are released every week. It would be cool to be able to use them, but if you need to make websites for the average user, you won't be able to use them for years - right? Wrong. Developing Distributed High-performance Computing Capabilities of an Open Sci...Globus
COVID-19 had an unprecedented impact on scientific collaboration. The pandemic and its broad response from the scientific community has forged new relationships among public health practitioners, mathematical modelers, and scientific computing specialists, while revealing critical gaps in exploiting advanced computing systems to support urgent decision making. Informed by our team’s work in applying high-performance computing in support of public health decision makers during the COVID-19 pandemic, we present how Globus technologies are enabling the development of an open science platform for robust epidemic analysis, with the goal of collaborative, secure, distributed, on-demand, and fast time-to-solution analyses to support public health.

Climate Science Flows: Enabling Petabyte-Scale Climate Analysis with the Eart...Globus
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.
