Digital and Innovation Strategies for the Infrastructure Industry: Tim McManu...Smart City
Productivity in the engineering and construction industry has been stagnant for decades. The proliferation of digital solutions has made it difficult for users to develop a coherent strategy. Companies who are able to successfully navigate the new digital landscape are on the brink of a transformation that will see top performers reduce overall project costs by 20-45%. However, digital transformations require developing digital capability across all aspects of the organization. Therefore, each entity involved in the industry must understand its critical challenges in order to guide its path to increased digital capability.
The banking industry’s resilience is being tested as banks navigate through a remarkable 2020 filled with uncertainties. The impact of COVID-19 has been about setting the tone for future operational models. Retail banks have shifted focus towards integrated risk management with a more holistic view of operational risks. Adapting to the new normal, banks have prioritized cost transformation while engaging customers virtually. Incumbents sought to be more responsible within fast-changing environmental conditions and ESG remained a critical focus.
To provide more experiential services, banks are leveraging techniques such as segment-of-one to hyper-personalize offerings while aiming to humanize digital channels for increased engagement. Banks are also revamping middle and back offices, going beyond the front end leveraging intelligent processes. Open X is enabling banks to play on their strengths and use the expertise of ecosystem players. Going forward, banks are poised to become an enhanced one-stop shop by providing consumers value-adding FS and non-FS experiences.
To acquire customers in cost-effective manner, retail banks are tapping value-based propositions ‒ such as POS financing and mortgage refinancing. Further, Banking-as-Service provides incumbents a way to provide their high-value offerings to other players. In preparation for the future, banks will be looking to improve their go-to-market agility by leveraging the benefits of cloud. This analysis outlines the top 10 trends in retail banking for 2021.

MGI: From poverty to empowerment: India’s imperative for jobs, growth, and ef...McKinsey & Company
Some 680 million people, or 56% of India, live below MGI’s Empowerment Line and lack acceptable minimum standards of living; the Empowerment Gap is 4% of GDP in value terms (about 7 times the official poverty gap)
From 2005 to 2012, 75% of the improvement in living standards was due to rising incomes, the rest due to government spending; to reduce the gap faster, India needs more productive jobs and higher effectiveness of government spending (e.g., 85 million people below the official poverty line could have been lifted to minimum living standards just by improving delivery of public services)
Almost 40% of the Empowerment Gap comes from health care, drinking water and sanitation; in addition, hunger is a major issue for the poorest segments, and housing for the urban vulnerable
Apart from lacking the means, Indians also lack access to 46% of the basic services they need, with significant variations in the pattern of access deprivation across districts
A path of Stalled Reforms would leave 36% of India below the Empowerment Line and 12% below the Poverty Line in 2022, but the path of Inclusive Reforms can bring these down to 7% and 1% respectively – while achieving fiscal consolidation and reducing access deficit in basic services to 17%, from 46% currently. Raising government spending on subsidies alone delivers just 8% of the total impact. 4 themes are critical
Non-farm jobs deliver >50% of impact; 115 million jobs are needed (38 million more than Stalled Reforms) through 6 broad-ranging reforms and investments in 70-100 job creation engines
Agricultural yield growth delivers ~20% of impact, needing 9 farm sector initiatives and investment rebalancing towards rural infrastructure, research and extension
Public spending on basic services should grow at 7% p.a. in real terms and share of health, water and sanitation to rise from 20% to nearly 50%
Government spending effectiveness must improve from 50% to 75%, by working with private and social sector, community involvement and tight monitoring using technology
Six themes are essential to improve governance across the board (raise institutional capacity and strengthen external accountability)

Using Business Architecture to enable customer experience and digital strategyCraig Martin
Digital disruption is shifting business model design from a focus on product profitability to a stronger focus on customer experience and lifetime value.
The presentation looks at environmental pressures caused by digital disruption and identifies how to use business architecture and business design to address these changes.
It covers business architecture for digital strategy, customer-driven value chains, re-writing of the 4Ps of the marketing mix, and the nine laws of disruption and how they affect business model design.Craig also investigates the changes afoot with strategic business planning and Enterprise Architecture, which are experiencing their own form of disruption. Will Enterprise Architecture as we know it become a commodity too?

Complimentary report on the current needs of CIOs BMAJCHER
Ahead of the Corporate IT Exchange 2012, we asked participants what the factors and main trends influencing their IT function are and what types of solutions providers could help them deliver on their IT and business priorities. The results are shown in an easy to digest visual presentation
Atos is a global digital services leader that accelerates progress by uniting people, business and technology. This is quite a mouthful for stating that we not only focus on technology, we’re not just another systems integrator or IT player. We are looking forward to creating a better future through digital transformation by focusing on progress for people (users, consumers, customers, employees…) and for the business world.
We know that as an organization, you have to deserve your customers every day, always. In the words of Warren Buffet: “It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it.”
This is why we at Atos believe in treating our clients as partners.
We are the trusted partner for our customers on their digital journey.
After each Games, we share the facts and figures and insights of our Business Technologists and the IT systems that help power progress for the Olympic and Paralympic Movements.
The legacy of our work for the Games is that we can bring this experience and the cross business services and solutions to our clients, wherever they are and whenever they need them:
· IT security
· Cloud
· Big Data
· Social Collaboration
· Mobility
As Worldwide IT Partner of the Olympic & Paralympic Games, Atos leads the technology effort for the staging of the Games. This same effort and skills can help your company as you pursue a record-breaking competitive advantage.
The history of technology at the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The enormity and scope of creating an IT management system and infrastructure for the Olympic Games, the world’s largest sports IT contract, presents a host of unique challenges. At every Games Atos executes a carefully honed strategy based on years of experience in delivering comprehensive IT services for major global sporting events.
Can content management be used as an asset to boost productivity and collaboration?
Atos’ performance at the Olympic Games has proved the ideal challenge to improving the way we deliver world-beating business technology for our clients. This new Fast Track Guide on ECM is quick to read and formed from the very latest thinking. It describes how, in the economic climate, enterprise collaboration tools have been embraced by organizations looking to become leaner and more flexible to boost productivity and efficiency across an increasingly dispersed and mobile workforce.
CEOs now expect IT to provide profitable growth and business agility. Is outsourcing the best way to achieve this?
The Olympic Games is the biggest managed IT services contract in world sport and involves coordinating a multitude of different providers. This new Fast Track Guide on Managed Services is quick to read and formed from the very latest thinking. It shows how providers such as Atos use their experience to build an ecosystem of clients, partners and of course expertise to leverage emerging technologies and market trends.
How should organizations go about tackling BYOD schemes?
While it is true that BYOD programs can and most likely will liberate and motivate employees, giving them a sense of personal choice, they can also bring with them unforeseen consequences when it comes to cost and security, even productivity, which must be fully considered before a scheme can be implemented. At the recent Olympic and Paralympic Games, the international scope meant Atos had to deal with a vast array of mobile devices coming in from many different sources, each with the requirement of flawless and secure delivery of IT services over the Olympic and Paralympic Games’ vast network.
Atos, one of the leading outsourcing companies, announces a new approach to transform the traditional outsourcing approach.
How do I decrease costs, yet increase innovation? The specialist knowledge we have built up as the Worldwide Partner of the IOC mirrors the intensive, industry-specific knowledge that we will bring to every outsourcing relationship.
What Atos has been doing for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, we can do for your organization, bringing the same winning spirit. This knowledge, coupled with Atos’ vision of the firm of the future, can give you an unsurpassed advantage as you focus on your core competitive activities
How can you open up your enterprise to the vast array of consumer devices available without opening it up to risk?
The recent Olympic and Paralympic Games were a perfect microcosm for a BYOD, or ‘Bring-Your-Own-Device’ strategy. The advantages of such a policy for your enterprise are clear: continuous renewal of technology, increased personal productivity and less reliance on support desk functions, to name just a few.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
