Grafana
Agenda
What is Grafana?
Grafana Architecture
Q&A
Grafana Requirements
How Prometheus pulls data from source
Adding Data Source in Grafana
Demo
• It is an Open Source software
for time Series data analysis
• Advanced, visualize and rich
metrics dashboard
• Reporting and monitor server
• Alert Notification feature
What is Grafana?
Grafana Requirements
Operating
System
• Debian/Ubuntu
• RPM-based Linux (CentOS, Fedora, OpenSuse, RedHat)
• macOS
• Windows
Hardware
recommendations
• Grafana does not use a lot of resources and is very lightweight in use of memory and CPU.
• Minimum recommended memory: 255 MB Minimum recommended CPU: 1
Database
• SQLite
• MySql
• PostgreSQL
• Prometheus
Grafana Architecture
GrafanaPrometheus
Ubuntu
Centos
Node
Exporter
Node
Exporter
ApplicationServers • Prometheus is a time Series
Database and helps monitoring
processes. Basically scrapes the
data from the Application system.
• Prometheus uses a promql
(Prometheus Query Language)
• Visualization in Prometheus
dashboard is not very user friendly
• Grafana acts as a source to pull the
data out of prometheus and
provides a neat graphical
presentation of data
How Prometheus pulls data from source
Install and enable agents in
monitoring systems and we use here
“Node Exporter”.
Node Exporter is a Prometheus
Exporter for Hardware and Operating
System Metrics.
Configure Prometheus.yml file to
access all the metrics and data from
Node Exporter.
Sample configuration of Prometheus.yml
Adding Data Source in Grafana
In Grafana Add DataSource as Prometheus and
provide the Prometheus service URL
There are several predefined shared dashboards
available in the Grafana Website to monitor
different sources of data.
https://grafana.com/grafana/dashboards
Not Very User Friendly and you need to
write and execute separate queries to get
different source data
Graphical Data Representation in Prometheus
Target Feature of Prometheus gives you the status of
monitored Systems

  • 23. • It is an Open Source software for time Series data analysis • Advanced, visualize and rich metrics dashboard • Reporting and monitor server • Alert Notification feature What is Grafana?
  • 24. Grafana Requirements Operating System • Debian/Ubuntu • RPM-based Linux (CentOS, Fedora, OpenSuse, RedHat) • macOS • Windows Hardware recommendations • Grafana does not use a lot of resources and is very lightweight in use of memory and CPU. • Minimum recommended memory: 255 MB Minimum recommended CPU: 1 Database • SQLite • MySql • PostgreSQL • Prometheus

Basically scrapes the data from the Application system. • Prometheus uses a promql (Prometheus Query Language) • Visualization in Prometheus dashboard is not very user friendly • Grafana acts as a source to pull the data out of prometheus and provides a neat graphical presentation of data
  • 26. How Prometheus pulls data from source Install and enable agents in monitoring systems and we use here “Node Exporter”. Node Exporter is a Prometheus Exporter for Hardware and Operating System Metrics. Configure Prometheus.yml file to access all the metrics and data from Node Exporter. Sample configuration of Prometheus.yml
  • 27. Adding Data Source in Grafana In Grafana Add DataSource as Prometheus and provide the Prometheus service URL There are several predefined shared dashboards available in the Grafana Website to monitor different sources of data. https://grafana.com/grafana/dashboards
  • 28. Not Very User Friendly and you need to write and execute separate queries to get different source data Graphical Data Representation in Prometheus
