This case report describes athelia, or the absence of teats, in a four-year-old graded Murrah she buffalo. The buffalo was presented to the veterinary college with a history of missing hind teats. Upon clinical examination, the udder tissue felt normal but there were no teats present. Surgical correction was not possible. This is an extremely rare congenital abnormality where the teats are either not fully developed or completely absent.

In the present investigation, a total of 42 Pati ducks were utilized. The ducks were randomly divided
into seven (7) groups consisting of six (6) birds in each group. The seven groups of birds were sacrificed at 7
different age viz. day old, 2 weeks, 4weeks, 8weeks, 20weeks, 30weeks and 40 weeks. The location and relative
topographic in-situ position of the thyroid gland was recorded. Both the thyroid glands were taken out and the
weight of each of them were recorded. The paired thyroid glands in the Pati ducks were located on either side of
the trachea close to the vascular angle formed by the subclavian artery and common carotid artery. The
average lengths of the thyroid gland were 0.2716± 0.0054 cm and 0.2750 ± 0.0050 cm for left and right
respectively in day old ducks. Weight of the thyroid gland also showed an increasing trend with age.

Parasites were stained and examined under microscopy to measure morphological characteristics, which supported identification as Cotylurus brevis, Cotylurus flabelliformis, and Apatemon gracillis based on comparisons to previous studies. Genetic sequencing of the COX1 gene was initiated but not completed. Results from staining were consistent with identification of the three species based on features such as testis shape, ovary placement, and body ratios being within reported ranges. Molecular analysis may further support identifications but has not been finished.

This case report describes a dystocia case in Nilotic Zebu cattle in South Sudan caused by multiple craniofacial anomalies in the fetal calf. A caesarean section was performed to extract the abnormal calf fetus, which had defects affecting the head, eyes, mouth and skull. Among the Nilotic pastoralist communities, such birth defects and unexplained illnesses are believed to be caused by evil spirits or curses. As a result, a traditional healer was consulted who performed a ritual sacrifice of a chicken to drive away the disease and prevent recurrence. While modern veterinary care was provided in this case, traditional beliefs still influence animal health practices for these communities in South Sudan.

This study examined 189 camels and 285 cattle slaughtered in Sokoto, Nigeria to assess the prevalence of hydatidosis. The study found:
1. Hydatid cysts were found in 44.4% of camels and 1.8% of cattle examined, with the prevalence significantly higher in camels.
2. The majority of cysts in camels were found in the lungs (93.2%) while most cysts in cattle were found in the liver (80%).
3. Most cysts recovered from camels and cattle were small, and there was no association between cyst size and infected organ.

Nasal Myiasis in animals due to Oestridae - A Mini Review
Oestrus ovis, the sheep ‘nasal bot fly’, somewhat looks like a honey bee, has a rudimentary mouth parts and do not feed. The larva of the sheep nasal fly is responsible for causing a condition in sheep and goat called nasal myiasis, oestriosis or ‘false gid’. The disease occurs when adult fly deposit first larvae (L1) into the nostrils of its host. The larvae develop into L2 and L3 in the nasal cavities and sinuses in due course. Sneezing and nasal discharges are the major clinical signs seen in infected animals. The pathogenic reaction occurs when the larvae irritate the mucosa with their spines and hooks during their development and also due to an allergic reaction induced by molecules excreted/secreted by the larvae. Sometimes damage of the skulls of the bones and injury to the brain occur to such an extent that signs of high-stepping gait and in-coordination suggesting the animal suffers from Coenurus cerebralis infection and hence the infection is also called false gid. Keeping in view the importance of the fly, the morphology, biology, pathogenesis, immunological reaction and various control measures of Oestrus ovis are discussed in this review.

A case of Dystocia due to Fetal Ascites in Murrah Buffalo
This case report describes a successful treatment of dystocia caused by fetal ascites in a Murrah buffalo. The buffalo was straining during the second stage of labor. Examination revealed the fetus had ascites, with its abdomen filled with fluid. To resolve the dystocia, the veterinarians drained 30 liters of fluid from the fetus's abdomen by incising it. The fetus was then partially repulsed and delivered, along with the placenta. The fetus was small with degenerative changes in its kidneys and liver. Fetal ascites can cause dystocia by increasing the abdominal diameter. Incising the abdomen to drain fluid is an effective approach for vaginal delivery in such cases.

This study analyzed genetic diversity in Short-tailed, Black-footed, and Laysan albatross using ancient and historic mitochondrial DNA samples. The researchers sequenced two mitochondrial DNA regions, cytochrome b and the d-loop region, from museum specimens and ancient bones to identify haplotypes. They found low haplotype diversity in cytochrome b across all three species, and in d-loop regions in Short-tailed albatross, which experienced a population bottleneck. D-loop regions showed greater diversity in Black-footed and Laysan albatross. This suggests reduced genetic diversity in Short-tailed albatross following its near extinction due to overhunting in the early 1900s.
Taxonomic study of the family Scoliidae (Hymenoptera; Aculeata) in Iraq - JBES
In this study, 117 specimens of the hairy wasps (Hymenoptera: Scoliidae), collected from different region of Iraq are investigated. Five species belonging to three genera were determined; this species are: Campsomeriella thoracica (Fabricius), Megascolia maculata (Drury), Scolia flaviceps Eversmann, S. turkestanica Betrem, S. hirta (Schrank) and S. schrenkii (Eversmann). The genus Pleorchis Railliet, 1896 is designated to rare digenetic distomes living as parasite in the intestine of marine fishes, having numerous testes arranged in four longitudinal rows in hindbody. A total of 14 species have been attributed to the genus, while another 4 species are no longer considered the member of Pleorchis. In this study a new form is described and we critically overviewed the genus. Collection of two ovigerous specimens was recovered live at Deegha, West Bengal, India (Indian Ocean) from the intestine of a marine fish, Psettodes erumei (Bloch & Schneider) out of 40 examined. The present form differs from all nominal species of the Pleorchis in having 48 testes, unequal anterior intestinal caeca, vitellaria extending from a little anterior of ovary up to hind end of body and an entire unlobed ovary. In view of unique morphoanatomical characters it seems that the present form deserves the status of a new species with a specific name Pleorchis srivastavai n. sp. All known species of genus seems to be rare digeneans as evident by their respective studies and these are important link of marine ecosystem.

2. The majority of cysts in camels were found in the lungs (93.2%) while most cysts in cattle were found in the liver (80%).
3. Most cysts recovered from camels and cattle were small, and there was no association between cyst size and infected organ.

Nasal Myiasis in animals due to Oestridae - A Mini Review
Oestrus ovis, the sheep ‘nasal bot fly’, somewhat looks like a honey bee, has a rudimentary mouth parts and do not feed. The larva of the sheep nasal fly is responsible for causing a condition in sheep and goat called nasal myiasis, oestriosis or ‘false gid’. The disease occurs when adult fly deposit first larvae (L1) into the nostrils of its host. The larvae develop into L2 and L3 in the nasal cavities and sinuses in due course. Sneezing and nasal discharges are the major clinical signs seen in infected animals. The pathogenic reaction occurs when the larvae irritate the mucosa with their spines and hooks during their development and also due to an allergic reaction induced by molecules excreted/secreted by the larvae. Sometimes damage of the skulls of the bones and injury to the brain occur to such an extent that signs of high-stepping gait and in-coordination suggesting the animal suffers from Coenurus cerebralis infection and hence the infection is also called false gid. Keeping in view the importance of the fly, the morphology, biology, pathogenesis, immunological reaction and various control measures of Oestrus ovis are discussed in this review.

This case report describes a successful treatment of dystocia caused by fetal ascites in a Murrah buffalo. The buffalo was straining during the second stage of labor. Examination revealed the fetus had ascites, with its abdomen filled with fluid. To resolve the dystocia, the veterinarians drained 30 liters of fluid from the fetus's abdomen by incising it. The fetus was then partially repulsed and delivered, along with the placenta. The fetus was small with degenerative changes in its kidneys and liver. Fetal ascites can cause dystocia by increasing the abdominal diameter. Incising the abdomen to drain fluid is an effective approach for vaginal delivery in such cases.

This study analyzed genetic diversity in Short-tailed, Black-footed, and Laysan albatross using ancient and historic mitochondrial DNA samples. The researchers sequenced two mitochondrial DNA regions, cytochrome b and the d-loop region, from museum specimens and ancient bones to identify haplotypes. They found low haplotype diversity in cytochrome b across all three species, and in d-loop regions in Short-tailed albatross, which experienced a population bottleneck. D-loop regions showed greater diversity in Black-footed and Laysan albatross. This suggests reduced genetic diversity in Short-tailed albatross following its near extinction due to overhunting in the early 1900s.
Taxonomic study of the family Scoliidae (Hymenoptera; Aculeata) in Iraq - JBES
In this study, 117 specimens of the hairy wasps (Hymenoptera: Scoliidae), collected from different region of Iraq are investigated. Five species belonging to three genera were determined; this species are: Campsomeriella thoracica (Fabricius), Megascolia maculata (Drury), Scolia flaviceps Eversmann, S. turkestanica Betrem, S. hirta (Schrank) and S. schrenkii (Eversmann). The last two species have been recorded for the first time in Iraq. Identification keys to genera, species and figured of male genitalia are illustrated. The genus Pleorchis Railliet, 1896 is designated to rare digenetic distomes living as parasite in the intestine of marine fishes, having numerous testes arranged in four longitudinal rows in hindbody. A total of 14 species have been attributed to the genus, while another 4 species are no longer considered the member of Pleorchis. In this study a new form is described and we critically overviewed the genus. Collection of two ovigerous specimens was recovered live at Deegha, West Bengal, India (Indian Ocean) from the intestine of a marine fish, Psettodes erumei (Bloch & Schneider) out of 40 examined. The present form differs from all nominal species of the Pleorchis in having 48 testes, unequal anterior intestinal caeca, vitellaria extending from a little anterior of ovary up to hind end of body and an entire unlobed ovary. In view of unique morphoanatomical characters it seems that the present form deserves the status of a new species with a specific name Pleorchis srivastavai n. sp. All known species of genus seems to be rare digeneans as evident by their respective studies and these are important link of marine ecosystem.

- 1. 70 Case Report Buffalo Bulletin (June 2012) Vol.31 No.2 INTRODUCTION Congenital abnormalities of the mammary system comprise absence of teats, glands, supernumeraryteatsandimperforateteats.Absences of teat is extremely rare, but isolated cases in which the teats were only represented by slight eminences have been met with (O’ Connor, 1980). Verma et al. (1983) reported athelia in a Sahiwal heifer, and Baskal et al. (1979) also reported congenital absences of teats in a she goat. The present paper communicates a case of athelia in a cow. CASE HISTORY AND CLINICAL OBSERVATIONS A four-year-old graded Murrah she buffalo was presented to the Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, College of Veterinary, Science, Tirupati with the history of absence of hind teats (Figure 1).
