4. The Nervous system control and
coordinates body activities. The brain
and the spinal chord form the centre
of the nervous system. Nerves carry
impulses from the sense organs to
brain. It is then that we feel the sense
of sight, hearing, touch, taste etc
6. It is the largest part of the brain. It
consists of millions of neurons. It is
the seat of sensation, memory,
intelligence, thinking, reasoning,
imagination etc
Cerebrum
7. It is a nerve centre seen below the
cerebrum. It controls the
transmission of impulses to the
cerebrum and from the cerebrum
Thalamus
8. The hypothalamus is situated just
below the Thalamus. The centers
that regulate the sense of hunger,
thirst and body temperature are
found here
Hypothalamus
9. It is the lowest part of the brain. It
has nerve centers that control
heart beat, respiratory movements
etc. The spinal cord is a
continuation of this part
Medulla Oblongata
10. The spinal chord is the
continuation of the
medulla oblongata and is
place inside the vertebral
column. It extends up to
the lower end of the
vertebral column
Spinal Chord
11. Functions of The Spinal Chord
Spinal Chord Transmits the impulses
reaching from different parts of the
body to brain. It transmits the
impulses from Cerebrum to various
parts of the body. It acts as the
centre of reflex action
13. The control and co-ordination of the
body activities are performed by the
nervous system. The cortex in human
is larger than that of any other animals
and it contain more nervous than the
brain of any other animals. This is the
reason that makes man superior to all
creatures.
