3. Game: Human Tic-Tac-Toe
• Idea?
– An intellectual sport for children’s events
• Target group?
– Children ages 6-12
• Time to play?
– Birthday parties, slumber parties, camp, or any other
event where groups of children are present.
• Players?
– 2 teams of at least 5 kids on each team
• Materials?
– Masking tape
– A set of trivia questions appropriate for age group, e.g.,
Trivial Pursuit, IQ,
4. Set-up (1/2)
• Using the masking tape, create a large tic-tac-toe
board on the floor of a room
• Make sure that the squares are big enough so
that if there is one child in each square, they are
not crowded.
5. Set-up (2/2)
• Divide the children into two equal teams in terms
of number of children on the team. This can be
by girl-boy or by some other means.
• Prepare the questions by dividing them into two
equal amounts and give one set to each team.
• Line up one team on each side of the board and
have one team be “X” and one “O”.
• Give each team one set of questions.
6. Let’s play!
• Winner?
– The team that manages to get three children in a row
• How to play?
– The first Team A player in line asks the first Team B player in line a
question.
– If Team B player guesses the correct answer, he/she then chooses a
square on the board and stands on it. If Team B player does not
guess the correct answer, then he/she goes to the end of the line.
– The first Team B player now in line asks the first Team A player in line
a question.
– If Team A player guesses the correct answer, he/she then chooses a
square on the board and stands on it. If Team A player does not
guess the correct answer, then he/she goes to the end of the line.
– Continue until one team has three in a row or it is a draw.
7. Game variations
• Questions
– Let the whole team work together to answer the question.
– Set a time limit within which the team must answer the question.
– Allow 1-2 wrong answers first for each question.
• Play several rounds.
• Answers
– If a team guesses the wrong answer, they have to remove a team
player from the board if there is one standing on the board.
– If a team guesses the right answer, they can remove the other
team’s player from the boards if there is one standing on the board.
• Board
– If there are enough children, increase the board to a 4x4.
