The study compared outcomes of long and short stimulation protocols for IVF/ICSI in women over age 40. A total of 531 women received either the long (285 women) or short (246 women) protocol. The long protocol resulted in higher numbers of oocytes retrieved, fertilized eggs, embryos, and clinical pregnancies compared to the short protocol. No pregnancies occurred in women over age 43. The long protocol is therefore recommended over the short protocol for assisted reproduction in women over 40 years old.
