crucial for engaging consumers. Data creation and sharing have exploded, pointing to a data-driven

how consumers use technology and it's impact on their lives. The internet has come a long way since it's birth in
1983. Ask yourself, can we live without the internet in this generation where Consumers depend on the internet for
business, communication, education and entertainment? without the internet the world would stop functioning.

The internet has witnessed a rapid growth in the number of users globally. In 1990, there were 2.62 billion
consumers using the internet which skyrocketed to 4.70 billion consumers in 2022. Currently, in 2023, according
to statistic, there are 5.16 billion consumers using the internet. Interestingly, in the Netherlands, 87.81 percent of
the population uses the internet daily.
Digital devices used by consumers
Consumers can now access the internet through various devices . Mobile phones in particular have transformed the
way we stay connected. Their portability and convenience have made them essential for internet access. Recent
statistic show that mobile phones are used more than traditional desktops and laptops. The number of mobile users
steadily rose from 2.65 billion users in 2016 to 5.25 billion users in 2023. This has made work life achievable for
consumers.
14. How consumers search for information
The way consumers search for information has undergone a drastic change with the rise of the internet. Gone are the
days of relying exclusively on traditional media like Newspapers for News, entertainment and recommendations.
Today, consumers turn to various online channels to find information they need. Google comes in as the most popular
search engine with 4.3 billion users in 2023 with 60% of searches coming from mobile devices.

Consumers now have the convenience of shopping a wide range of products and services online. It is estimated that
2.14 billion consumers globally purchase good and services online according to statistics. The availability of online
market places like Ebay, Amazon, and Ali-express etc have given consumers more choices and convenience like
speedy delivery, secure returns and after-pay services. However, this has put massive competitive pressure on
businesses to offer compelling products and services at competitive prices .
Online video consumption
The consumption of online video content has experienced a dazzling rise. Streaming platforms like Youtube,
Netflix and social media platforms like Tiktok have become the primary source of entertainment and
information. it is important to note that Youtube is a popular platform with over 2 billion active users.
Consumers prefer watching videos for education ,entertainment and product reviews. The rise of online video
has also transformed content marketing strategies for businesses. Companies are increasingly using video
content to engage with their audiences
