This document summarizes key elements learned from analyzing 7 redneck and backwoods horror movies. Common themes identified include isolated rural settings away from civilization where victims do not know the area, making them feel insecure and unsafe. Antagonists typically live in these isolated areas and investigate or slowly kidnap victims to build tension. Jump scares are used to reveal the danger victims face from antagonists seeking retaliation, violence or secrecy. Settings at night or of abandoned shacks/roads are employed to increase danger and tension for vulnerable victims in the films.
