2. Phrasal verbs are distinctive to the English
language. Also called 2 and 3-word verbs, they
combine a preposition with a verb. The
meaning of the resulting 2 or 3-word verb is a
combination of both, the verb and its
preposition, like many other verbs, phrasal
verbs often has more than one meaning, as
they are:
3. Put on: This phrasal verb
has several meanings
(ponerse, encender,
aumentar), admits a direct
complement and can separate
the verb from the preposition.
For example:
* I will put this shirt on.
* Let's put the oven on before
Carolina finishes making the
toasted bread.
* Andrea has put on weight
since the last time I saw her.
Look forward to: This phrasal
verb means (esperar con muchas
ganas). It is also supports with a
direct complement but does not
separate. For example:
* I am looking
forward to seeing you
again.
Came back: This phrasal verb
means (volver de un sitio). This has
no direct complement and is used
alone. For example:
* I am looking forward
to seeing you again.
4. Take off: This phrasal verb is
defined as a separable transitive,
It means that it can separate the
verb from the preposition. its
meaning is (quitarse, empezar a
volar). For example:
* My plane takes off in ten
minutes.
* She is taking her cardigan
off.
Get rid of: This phrasal verb is
defined as an inseparable
transitive because they do not
separate. His interpretation is
(deshacerse de). For example:
*He got rid of his
problems
Grow up: its meaning is
(crecer). In this phrasal verb is
classified as intransitive and
inseparable because after them
there is no direct complement and
his verb is complemented by the
gerund –ing. For example:
* Your children are
growing up very quickly.

meanings as (apagar, dislocar,
enojar). These phrasal verbs
use the verb and several
propositions. For example:
* Daniel put out the fire.
* The goalkeeper must have put his
arm out when he fell.
* Teresa was quite put out by the
situation so she got out of there.
Look after: This phrasal verb has
the rule of not separating, the verb
with the preposition are always
together. Its meaning is (cuidar de).
For example:
* Daniela looks after his
little brother everyday
while his mom works.
Come in: This phrasal verb is
inseparable, is used alone and do
not carry direct complement. This
verb has the meaning of (entrar).
For example:
* Can I come
in?

the verb or preposition does not look like the final
meaning, the translation is (consultar). For
example:
* Felipe looked up the
word in the dictionary.

psychology at university UNAD Cead Duitama, I work at supermarket, I live in the
city of Santa Rosa de Viterbo “Boyacá”, I like to live there, I am single without children.
I like english language because me communicate with others, teach my brothers and
my nieces, travel to other paices, meet new people y helps my personal growth.
My hobbies are: I like to watch movies with my brothers, visit my friends, play
basketball, read books.
My expectation for the course is to learn and teach others.

11. My family is planning to by a new house in the center of my town, Santa
Rosa of Viterbo; my parents have been saving each month to make this
dream a reality.
My brothers Diego and Felipe are finishing their studies at school to
start a career in university, they have been studying hard to be the bests,
my sister Aura has been teaching in a school to be teacher of social, she
is doing professional practices.
My family is planning to visit my uncles in Cali, I have been researching
trips for the month of December but they are very expensive.
My parents are willing to educate up their children, they have been
offering the best example.
I love my family.
12. I am working in a supermarket, I have been selling fruits and vegetables, I am
planning to finish my studies in university to work as a professional in
psychology, and I have been studying hard to be the best.
I am thinking work in a company as a psychologist in organizational area; I
have been researching work proposals.
My mother is paying my studies, she has been working and saving to make my
dream a reality, I have been learning a lot about things related to psychology
to get a good job, in my future work I hope to help people find solutions to
their problems, I like trying to help people.
I am hoping to become a good doctor, very recognized for my work helping
others.
I love my profession.
13. I am planning to exercise to improve my health, I have been
researching a gym nearby and economical, I am starting with a medical
checkup to prevent disease, I have been attending medical
appointments.
The doctor has been watching my medical tests, he is buying that all is
well but I am very worried because I felt a pain in the chest, I am taking
daily medications to improve my health, I have been following the
instructions given by the doctor, I am feeling pains in my stomach, I
have been eating fruit salads or vegetables to improve digestion.
My mother has been watching my health, she is helping me in my daily
routine, I am gaining weight by eat a lot and my parents are very
worried, I have been trying to improve the amount of food.
I love my body.
14. I am planning travel to Cali to visit my uncles, I have been
researching various travel agencies, I am saving to buy
clothes in holiday, I have been watching shirts, pants and
shoes pretty, my brothers are practicing natation to go on
vacation to pool, I have been learning with them, I am
thinking about cut my hair in holiday, I have been designing
styles of cuts.
I am starting a daily routine of feeding to be more beautiful
in the next vacation, I have been eating fruits and vegetables
daily, also I have been doing exercise in the gym, I have been
wondering English courses for my nieces on vacation, I am
encouraging my nieces to learn new languages.
