Sociological aspects of Sport
Assessment question/task:
Provide a sociological explanation of how and why sports participation is limited by three of the following aspects of social identity and social position: ‘class’; ‘sexuality’; ’disability’; ‘gender’ or ‘ethnicity’.Grade: 66%Feedback: The assessor said that she liked my layout, content and wording or my work. She said that I addressed all the point clearly and in good detail. However my poster lacked sociological models to back up my points.Reflection: (using my personal reflective framework)For this assessment I decided instead of doing a typical poster I would arrange it on a PowerPoint in order to keep the structure the same throughout. I started with the layout of the poster and I put in sections with text boxes and sub headings so that I knew what to do and how to link it. When filling in the boxes I read theory around it first then filled the boxes in designing my words around the theory.
I decided on the structure because, being a kinaesthetic learner I know that sub headings help me alot when doing a piece of work. This assessment was hard at first because it was my first taste of academic referencing, but once I got the hang of it it became easier.
Evaluating my poster I am pleased with the way I went about it and there isn’t much I would change. I am happy with my grade also.
If anything I could have tried to have a better first draft because I spent alot of time going over my work and editing it. However I think that this will come in time when I do more academic work

Structure and Governance of Sport and Leisure
Assessment question/task:
analysis of a partnership that focuses on a social inclusion issue using a sports initiative: POWW (Positive Opportunities at the Weekend)Grade: 75%
Feedback: For this piece of work I received written feedback from Annette.
Thank you for choosing a more unusual subject!
Your introduction sets the scene nicely.
You have carefully outlined how both sector and level apply to the action in the partnership in very great detail.
You have read widely and this is very evident in your essay- allowing you to use appropriate sources (usually several) with your own interpretation applied to the programme. Well done!
Reflection: (using my personal reflective framework)
This is the piece of work I am most proud of from semester 1. Mainly because in the early days of the module I was struggling to get to grips with it, but as time went on I realised that the council who I worked for have many projects like these involving many partners so I figured this would be an ideal project to look into. I have many connections there as well so gathering information was reasonably easy.
Looking back on how I went about it I followed through a similar thought process to the sociology poster. I set up the layout and subheadings that i needed to address and a word count table for each section. Again for this piece of work I did many drafts before it was complete but I am glad I did it this way because it helped me filter out the bad bits and enhance the good.
The bad thing was how much time I spent on the piece of work, however this can be expected because I was still learning how to write academically and reference. My ex boss Gary was very helpful because he knew the project very well and he had a written review of the project saying what they did good and what went wrong also action plans on how they could improve the project. Mike Priestley also helped me greatly by emailing me the pros and cons of the partnerships involved.
I am very pleased with this grade and this is the standard I will try and achieve in all pieces of work at university.

Intro Sports Marketing
Assessment question/task:
Assessment 1 – Poster (50%)
Presented in session 7 and 8 w/c 08/11/2010 and 15/11/10 during the seminars
Assessment 2 - Presentation (50%)
Presented in the seminars in sessions 10,11 and 12.
Grade: 62%Feedback:
For the poster we got 68% and Mike Ash said that he liked our layout and presentation of the poster, it had a good flow and met the criteria. However we forgot to put our pricing strategy document on the poster. For the presentation he said it was good but quite unorganised and rushed so we got 54% for this.
Reflection: (using my personal reflective framework)
This was the only piece of group work of semester 1, in my group was Me Ben and Henry, I think that we worked reasonably well as a team and each person knew their roles for the poster.
Reflecting on how we went about the poster makes me realise that we did work well but it was quite rushed towards the end when it came to putting it all together at the end I think this is why we missed off the pricing strategy. But once it was complete it looked very good and the content was to a reasonably high standard.
I was pleased with the way the poster turned out it was just a bit too last minute for my liking and I often didn’t feel like the group were taking all my opinions into consideration. As for the presentation I think that because we had done well on the poster that we didn’t really need to do exceptionally well on the presentation and this attitude was reflected when it came to delivering the presentation but we ended up doing a decent job considering and I am happy with my mark.
For future group work I would like to have a more hard working pro active group that is more organized and listens to everyone’s opinions.
