This is a sample presentation I created for Irvine Valley College. The intention was to get prospective students up-to-speed on how California Assembly Bill 705 will affect the college admissions process, especially as it pertains to Math and English placement.
3. Before AB 705
• Placement tests required
immediately upon college entrance
• Placement tests required no matter
how you did in high school
• Remedial (non-transfer,
preparatory) courses, could add an
additional year (or years) to your
plans to finish community college.
4. What AB 705 means for you
• No more
placement tests
• No student can be
denied entry into a
transfer-level Math or
English class
5. AB 705: What colleges will do
• Recommend English and Math placement based on
high school transcripts
• Provide support coursework for students to succeed in
transfer-level coursework
• Ensure students finish transfer-level English and math
within a year of starting that coursework
• Ensure ESL students can complete transfer-level
requirements within three years
6. AB 705: We’ll help you decide
Step 1: Start the application process by completing your
Irvine Valley College application online
http://admissions.ivc.edu/Pages/admissions.aspx
Step 2: On MySite, complete Guided Self Placement
