Kengo Kuma designed the Asakusa Culture Tourism Information Center (ACTIC) in Tokyo to address the loss of vernacular identity in the city's architecture. He drew inspiration from traditional Machiya townhouses, stacking individual Machiya to form a tower. Each floor has a unique layout, height, and function inspired by Machiya. Materials and textures also reference surrounding traditional architecture. By revitalizing Machiya typology into a tower, Kuma established a new form that respects vernacular identity while meeting modern needs.
The Heydar Aliyev Cultural Centre in Baku, Azerbaijan was designed by Zaha Hadid Architects. It uses a combination of a concrete structure and space frame system to achieve large column-free interior spaces under its curved exterior. The space frame enabled construction of the free-form structure and uses vertical elements absorbed by the envelope. Reinforced concrete is used for shear walls and foundations, while the space frame, concrete, and glass fiber reinforced polyester and concrete panels create the distinctive curved surface.

The document discusses the evolution of Japanese architecture over time. It began with traditional wooden structures influenced by Chinese styles. After World War 2 destroyed many cities, Western architectural styles using steel and concrete were adopted for reconstruction. However, the Japanese modified Western styles to suit their culture and climate, and to improve earthquake resistance. They also preserved traditional building types. Now Japanese architecture blends indigenous and imported influences, with modern buildings coexisting with historical structures.
Santiago Calatrava is a Spanish architect and engineer known for designing buildings and structures that resemble moving human figures. He was born in 1951 in Spain and studied architecture and civil engineering. Calatrava draws inspiration from nature and the human body, blending visual style with engineering principles. Some of his notable works include the Turning Torso building in Sweden, the Auditorio de Tenerife concert hall in Spain's Canary Islands, and the Lyon-Satolas TGV railway station in France, which resembles a giant bird. Calatrava's structures are symbolic, using long sweeping lines, and capturing a sense of movement through static designs.
Namba Parks is a mixed-use development in Osaka, Japan built on a formerly underutilized parcel of land. It consists of an 8-level indoor-outdoor retail and entertainment complex wrapped around a central open-air canyon. Above the retail levels is a 1.15 hectare rooftop park, one of the largest in Japan. The complex also includes a 30-floor office tower and will include additional residential and retail space in a future phase. Museum Case Studies
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Museum
A museum is an institution that cares for (conserves) a collection of artifacts and other objects of scientific, artistic, cultural, or historical importance and makes them available for public viewing through exhibits that may be permanent or temporary.[1] Most large museums are located in major cities throughout the world and more local ones exist in smaller cities, towns and even the countryside. Museums have varying aims, ranging from serving researchers and specialists to serving the general public. The continuing acceleration in the digitization of information, combined with the increasing capacity of digital information storage, is causing the traditional model of museums (i.e. as static "collections of collections" of three-dimensional specimens and artifacts) to expand to include virtual exhibits and high-resolution images of their collections for perusal, study, and exploration from any place with Internet.[citation needed] The city with the largest number of museums is Mexico City with over 128 museums. According to The World Museum Community, there are more than 55,000 museums in 202 countries.[2]
Tadao Ando is a renowned Japanese architect born in 1941 in Osaka. He is self-taught and known for his minimalist concrete designs that emphasize simplicity and empty space. One of his most famous works is the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth from 2002, which consists of five floating pavilions surrounded by a large reflecting pond. The museum makes heavy use of concrete, steel, glass and natural light to blur the boundaries between interior and exterior spaces and integrate the artwork with its natural surroundings.
This document provides information about Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. It discusses some of his key projects and design philosophies. Kuma aims to reinterpret traditional Japanese architecture for the 21st century using natural materials. Some of the projects summarized are the Birch Moss Chapel built into a forest, the V&A Dundee museum with a facade resembling rocky cliffs, and the Misono Branch Bank encased in wooden slats. The document also provides brief summaries of several other buildings designed by Kuma.
High-rise commercial buildings are icons of modern society that symbolize the power of commerce. They add a third dimension to cities. For businesses, having an office in an attractive high-rise building provides advantages like better customer confidence and corporate identity. A high-rise is defined as a building over 35 meters tall, constructed using a structural frame and elevators. High-rises are classified by style and have various structural forms determined by factors like human scale, climate and cost. Their loads come from gravity, weather, and human use. Core elements include stairs, elevators, and utilities that provide vertical circulation and access.
Cayan Tower is a 306.4 meter tall residential skyscraper located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is composed of 73 above ground floors that twist around a central core at a rate of 1.2 degrees per floor, rotating 90 degrees by the top of the building. Each floor has identical hexagonal floor plans composed of residential units around a central corridor. The unique twisting design helps reduce wind loads and solar heat gain compared to a standard rectangular tower of the same height.
The Menil Collection in Houston, Texas houses the private art collection of John de Menil and Dominique de Menil. Renzo Piano designed the museum building in 1987 to hold the collection of over 15,000 works of twentieth-century art. Piano's understated design blends into the surrounding residential neighborhood with a facade of gray siding and steel. The museum allows natural light into galleries while protecting works of art, using a wave-shaped roof and ceiling structure inspired by sailboats. The campus has expanded over time and the neighborhood maintains a coordinated aesthetic.

Garbage in, Garbage out. This truism is not new only for Big Data but it has become significantly more impactful as the move has begun away from traditional schema based approaches to more flexible and dynamic file system approaches. Many companies are finding that early stage successes rapidly become mid-term failures as data poured into Hadoop can no longer be managed and marshaled effectively, creating a cycle of reduced effectiveness and increased cost. This session covers how Big Data changes the way that information needs to be managed, how traditional approaches like MDM need to change and how new technologies and methods such as machine learning and business meta-data become crucial to the long term viability of a heterogeneous Big Data infrastructure.

Implementing Enterprise API Management in Oracle CloudCapgemini
API-led connectivity has become the main mechanism to integrate with software-as-a-service applications. Mobile applications, modern web applications, and the Internet of Things also need APIs. In Oracle Cloud, there are at least six cloud services offering a solution for APIs (five of which are Oracle Mobile Cloud Service, Oracle API Manager Cloud Service, Oracle API Catalog Cloud Service, Oracle Internet of Things Cloud Service, and Oracle Integration Cloud Service).
This presentation describes what an enterprise-wide API management solution looks like, elaborates on a solid API taxonomy, and then shows how to position each of the mentioned cloud services to deliver an end-to-end API management solution in Oracle Cloud that is also capable of handling hybrid cloud use cases.
Presented by Luis Weir, Principal, Oracle Ace Director, Capgemini, at Oracle OpenWorld 2016.
The document discusses API-led connectivity and how it can help organizations transition to a composable enterprise model. It argues that incremental integration approaches are not scalable and do not address rising demands on IT departments. The presentation promotes MuleSoft's Anypoint Platform for enabling API-led connectivity across applications, data sources, and devices. It allows organizations to create reusable API assets, empower lines of business to self-serve, and transform how IT supports business needs.

The land that UNIT now occupies has a long history dating back to the 15th century. It was originally owned by a local tavern owner and later became a military compound with barracks, training facilities, and repair shops. From the late 19th century until 1993, it was home to a large motorcycle factory. UNIT plans to redevelop the area in stages, starting by reusing existing warehouses for pop-up food vendors, fitness areas, shops, and more to activate the space. The full redevelopment will include offices, housing, education, and cultural amenities to create a mixed-use district.

The document discusses land use zones in cities. It describes the five main land use zones: central business district (CBD), inner city/twilight zone, industrial zone, inner suburbs, and outer suburbs. It provides characteristics of each zone, such as the types of housing, transportation, and businesses commonly found. The CBD contains the most expensive land and houses shops, offices, and entertainment facilities. The inner city historically contained terraced housing and factories. The document also discusses how land use has changed over time in Portsmouth, with more high-rise buildings and shopping centers being constructed further from the city center.
