HOW DOES YOUR OPENING
SEQUENCE REPRESENT PARTICULAR
SOCIAL GROUPS
The main character in our opening sequence is Alexandra Davis, Female, 17. In the sequence she played a
teenage girl, 17 years old. First of all we wanted to show significance with her clothing as the plot of our
opening sequence is to do with Alex's mysterious character, and the brown package that no one knows about.
So by this we dressed her in a dark hoody and dark leggings, this way, as mentioned before - the audience will
not be able to make out who she is, what she is doing, or what she looks like. We also had Alex have her hood
up throughout the opening, as we wanted this to represent that she has had something to hide too, as she
looks like she is trying to hide her body, face and emotions. This again highlights the fact that the opening
sequence will not give any of the story away.
We tried making Alex look quite anti-social with her clothing also. But we wanted her to be someone who
adults would label a hoodlum! By this we thought having her long blonde hair down would make her look more
like a louder and bolder person, because of the fact that she looks like she takes pride and care of her
appearance.
With how emotionless we made the character look, we though it could also bring
an idea that the audience may think that she has left home or if she's running
away from something that she has done wrong previously. In my opinion, I think
that Alex's character really suited out target audience as some viewers may be
able to relate on either how she looks or how they think she is feeling, or what
she has done. Overall Alex's character is good to get an audience opinion on, we
feel that first opinion will always be who she is and what she has done, which will
relate to the audience trying to put her into a certain social group.
We also feel that the setting of our opening sequence will represent social groups
too. Normally we associate anti social gangs to hang around in places that seem
unusual, and also places that they are not supposed to be. This is why we tried on
having Alex on her own, in the dark, in a place where you wouldn't expect her to
be. This makes the audience wonder if she's going to meet anyone, which in your
mind you would expect if she were to meet any one. it will be a group of young
teenagers, or a single teenager. Both of which would be dodgy.
