2. The rule of thirds

The rule of Thirds are used in the film making to create good
composition and highlight the subject of the frame by aligning the
point of interest. The rule of thirds are applied by having 2 verticle
and 2 horizontal lines. The lines itself are used to seperate various
parts of the shot and the intersections are used used to focus on
the various points of interest.
3. Shot-reverse-shot

Shot reverse shot is used during conversations
●
1) A shot of a character looking at another character whose often offscreen
●
2) A shot of the other character looking back
●
This technique is used give the veiwer the impression that the Characters are looking at each other.
4. 180 degrees rule
●
This type of camera positionings crucial as it
provides an element of realism when it comes
to conversations the there is an imaginary line
between two people or objects and the camera
are positioned only on one side of the two, this
way the action between the two if this rule
was broken the shot would look misplaced and
show that the characters are facing in the
wrong direction.

6. Extreme long shot This shot is used show characters
in the setting. This shot also works
as an establishing shot to show
the location.
Long shot This shows the figure of the
person within their environment
the figure makes up most of the
film.
Mid long shot This shot is from the thigh and
upwards and shows the majority
of the characters body.
Mid shot The shot is from the waist and up
and shows the top half of the
body.
Mid Close up shot This shot is used during
conversations and shows the
chest and upwards.
Close up The close up is used to focus on
the individual face and facial
reactions.
Extreme close up shot This shot is used the highlight the
small details of the subject.
7. WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
Shot types are important as they are used to
covery meaning, portary the emotions and
and body language of characters,and coney
the significance of the various aspects of a
film.Shot types are determined by the
amount of subject or background
information shown, the significance of the
subject and the physical and psycological
information shown.
8. Camera angles
Low Angle shots are used to portray superiority
and empowerment this shot may be used to
record the antagonist as the antagonist is
shown as powerful and feared
Eye level is used to just show the
main features of the face this shot is
often used in conversations The high angle shot has an opposite
effect to the angle shot .It portrays
inferiority and weakness as it shows
the characters as victimised
The birds eye views is effective as it gives
the viewer an overview of the scenario this
is often used after the murder scenes.
The canted shot is often used
to represent instability and
disorientation as this shot
forces the viewer to
concentrate
9. Camera movement
Pan- horizontal movement of the camera from a static
position
Tracking -camera tracks the movement of the specific
subject
Tilt-movement vertically
Crab- a subtle movent on the horizontal line
Crane- The camera is mounted on a crane so that it can
move up and down and side to side
Handheld-a Shaky movement that imitates the movement
of the camera operator
Zoom- the lens are ajusted to increse or decrease subject
or background size.
10. Mise-en-scene covers these various areas
-Costumeand props
-setting
-lighting
-Diegetic sound
In short the concept of Mise-en-scene is the visual
and audio information recorded by the camera.
Depth
This is the concept of the distance the camera is in
relation to other parts of the frame.Depth can be
used to show the foreground, background and
middleground.
