 He spends money as if he owned a bank
Note: If you want to emphasize that something is not true, it’s possible to use were instead
of was. In American English it’s common to use were
EXAMPLES:
 She’s behaving as if she were the Queen of England!
(She is not the Queen of England, but she is acting as if she is very important)
 They stared at me as if I were crazy.

her clothes on
When she came in from the rainstorm, she

5.- We can use both as if and as though followed by a non-finite clause or a
prepositional phrase:
 She moved her lips as if to smile.
 They were shouting as though in panic.
LIKE
Like is often used instead of as if/as though.
EXAMPLES:
 It looks like rain
Notice: Like is followed by a noun object
 It looks like it is going to rain (informal)
 It felt like it could snow at any minute.(informal)
 That house look like it´s going to fall down.
 It look like they aren´t coming.
 She ran like if she was running a marathon.
NOTICE: Like is followed by clause. This use of like is common in informal English, but
is not generally considered appropriate in formal English; as if or as though is preferred.
This is common in American English.
