Assignment 2: Changes in Religious Art
You likely noticed that during the three hundred years covered in this week’s study that religious art remained quite important just as it had been in earlier “art ages.” There were monumental changes, however, in the way the religious subjects were depicted.
Use the textbook and/or online sources to locate and capture three works of religious art. All three pieces should be dealing with the same subject matter— for example, the Crucifixion, mother and child, or the Last Supper. Capture one image from each:
the Early Renaissance period
the High Renaissance period
the Baroque period
Your works of art must either be all paintings or all sculptures. (Do not use the three David sculptures from Assignment 1 as your comparisons.)

images on line on your own). What general, and also specific, aspects of the design of this
building can you cite as typical of design from this particular cultural tradition? In other words,
which society produced it, how is it typical of that society’s design, and why? Be sure to
discuss how it is rooted in the earlier, tribal phase of this society, reflecting a way of life tied to
its unique environment; and then how it represents those typical traits of design as they were
adapted to new uses in the later phase of the society, after it adopted a new faith. Use this work
of design as an example, to

this cultural tradition’s response to its original
environment, and it’s tendencies and interests seen not only in forms of design but woven into its
stories and its beliefs. Be specific, with numerous specific examples of traits that tell us
particular things about this cultural tradition and how they are expressed in design.

Now talk in a parallel way about how the Borgund Stave Church (see images, seek out some
more) illustrates design tendencies that reflect conditions, a way of life, characteristic cultural
attitudes, interests and beliefs, both from tribal, pagan times, and later after conversion to the
new faith this building serves. For both buildings, start with the usual elements of morphology,
material, imagery, functions, etc., and talk about how they go back to their tribal phase and way
of life in some ways, but reflect an evolution in other ways. Explain what this work (and the
other) tells us on several different levels, in different kinds of ways about this tribal society, in
this specific environment, as it evolved into a true civilization – and the same for the mosque in
1.a), for that society and tradition. You may think of this as a direct comparison of the two
buildings, point by point, if that helps you be very clear in your answers, but you don’t.

Today’s age – generation y and soon to be generation z – are so used to having their social media sites be a part of their everyday life. Most people from those generations actually use their social media profiles as their professional portfolios to show potential employers what they can do and what they can bring to the organization. Using social media as part of the staffing process is also great for reaching candidates not in the immediate area. If someone can find a job through social media and video interviews, they will more than likely be quicker to make the move versus moving there and trying to find a job once you get to a new place.
Some problems and legal implications can be discrimination. By searching the social media pages, you are seeing what they race or ethnicity is. It might be a better idea for companies to run a social media search after already meeting candidates and conducting face-to-face interview. Another problem can be that using social media to find potential employees can be very time consuming. It will take longer to go through candidate’s profiles than it would through their resumes.

Use the textbook and/or online sources to locate and capture three works of religious art. All three pieces should be dealing with the same subject matter— for example, the Crucifixion, mother and child, or the Last Supper. Capture one image from each:

Today’s age – generation y and soon to be generation z – are so used to having their social media sites be a part of their everyday life. Using social media as part of the staffing process is also great for reaching candidates not in the immediate area. If someone can find a job through social media and video interviews, they will more than likely be quicker to make the move versus moving there and trying to find a job once you get to a new place.
Some problems and legal implications can be discrimination. By searching the social media pages, you are seeing what they race or ethnicity is. It might be a better idea for companies to run a social media search after already meeting candidates and conducting face-to-face interview. Another problem can be that using social media to find potential employees can be very time consuming. It will take longer to go through candidate’s profiles than it would through their resumes.

I am concerned with a number of issues that affect my ability to deliver the health care I want to deliver to my patients. With the rise in managed care, I cannot refer my patient to a specialist or prescribe certain medications without first obtaining approval from an insurance company. It makes sense to approach a museum the way a seasoned traveler approaches visiting a city for the first time. Find out what there is available to see. In the museum, find out what sort of exhibitions are currently housed in the museum and start with the exhibits that interest you.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
