The photographer had the main model wear minimal makeup at the beginning of the shoot to focus on music rather than appearance for a new magazine. As the shoot progressed, the photographer had the model add lipstick to portray the "fame" look and meet conventions of a typical artist. The photographer wanted an indie artist on the cover in simple, comfortable clothing like a high-necked top based on image research.

1. Artist Mise-en-scene
At the start of the photo-shoot I had my main model wear very basic
looking makeup. I liked this idea due to the fact that I want my
magazine to be based purely on music with only a little bit of focus
on the appearance and the fashion side of fame. Due to this is I had
Laura wear minimal makeup right at the beginning. However as the
photo-shoot progressed I asked her to put on some lipstick as I
thought this would give her the typical “fame” appearance and meet
the codes and conventions of a typical artist more. I knew what type
of photo I wanted to use on my front cover and I knew what clothing
item I wanted Laura to wear. I had seen many photos when looking
at image ideas of people in high-necked tops or jumpers. From this I
thought that it was a good idea to have an indie artist in very
simplistic comfy clothing.
