ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN
POWER PLANT
INRODUCTION
What is AI?
The capability of a machine to imitate
intelligent human behavior
AI is the branch of computer
science that is concerned with
the automation of intelligent
behavior
OR simply
APPLICATIONS OF AI
 Power Plants
 Hospitals and
medicine
 Heavy industry
 Transportation
 Toys and games
 Aviation
MOBILE MONITORING OF
POWER SYSTEM
 The mobile monitoring of power system means the
controlling and maintenance of the plant by various
automated means from a safe distance.
 To solve this task,
multidisciplinary efforts are needed from fields such as
sensing signal processing, control, communication,
optimization theory and more recently robotics
 The development in robotic maintenance for power
systems indicate significant potential of this technological
approach.
 The mobile monitoring of the power plants includes
various sensors like acoustic sensing, fringing electric field
sensing and infrared sensing.
AI IN POWER STATIONS
Three types of power plants
• Thermal power plant
• Hydel power plant
• Nuclear power plant
ARTIFICIAL
INTELLIGENCE IN
THERMAL POWER
PLANT
LINESCOUT ROBOT
Replacing human workers for dangerous
and highly specialized operations, such as
live maintenance of high voltage
transmission lines has been a long standing
effort in the power community
Specifications of linescout robot
The three-axis robotic arm has
been designed to reach the four
conductors of a typical
transmission line. one end of the
arm is equipped with a point able
camera and the other can hold a
variety of tools for tasks such as:
•High quality visual inspections
•Infrared inspection
•Checking the condition of
splices by measuring their
electrical resistance
•Tightening and loosening bolted
assemblies
•Temporary repair of broken
conductor stands
ARTIFICIAL
INTELLIGENCE IN
NUCLEAR POWER
PLANT
SNAKE ARM ROBOT
The snake arm can perform a
variety of inspection and
maintenance tasks
Specification of snake arm robot
•User interface
•Actuator pack
•Snake arm
•Tool
Advantages of AI
 Jobs
 They don’t stop
 No risk of harm
 Act as helpers
 Their function is limitless
Disadvantages of AI
 Over reliance of AI
 Human feel
 Inferior
 Misuse
 Ethically wrong
The truth is we don’t know what is going to
happen (can’t predict the future), until mankind
eventually gives birth to AI and let it be. Currently
all we can do is speculate, so many of the points
of ‘advantages and disadvantages for artificial
intelligence’ above are just guesses, we might
(and probably) will face an entirely different array
of benefits and problems.
Conclusion
