Battles in the Pacific In World War II, there were numerous Battles in the Pacific ocean. Some were
scary and
some were bloody and some were quiet and some were loud, but most of all some were deadly,
life threatening. The troops that had to go out and fight the battles were brave. Especially
to go fight on water in boats and submarines and in the air with planes. You would never know
when you were go to get shot down or lose your life. It would be a surprise if you live and

One of the most bloodiest battles in World War II is Iwo Jima (Chenoweth 234). It began
at 2:00 on February 19,1945 in the Pacific ocean on the island of Iwo Jima, 650 miles from

A Brief Note On The South Territory Of Australia
In the Northern Territory of Australia, almost one third of the population is Aboriginal. They also
own almost half the land in the territory, mostly as communities. Most of these communities are
very remote, which doesn t leave very many options for economic growth and development because
of limited infrastructure, environments not conducive to normal agriculture, and the education
levels in regards to reading and math are low (Gorman). Because of this, many of the communities
there are struggling financially, many of the people depending on welfare. Additionally, many of
the public funds that are going to help the indigenous people in Australia are going to the larger
communities, instead of the smaller, more remote ones (Koenig). Because of this, the people in
these remote communities are having to find new ways to provide for themselves as the world
changes around them. In the past, the Aboriginals were primarily foragers. They hunted and
gathered the resources around them. As the country has changed, cutting down on the amount of
land they have available, and the resources on it, they have had to find new ways to supplement
this with other ways to survive and thrive, often selling different forms of art, or allowing outside
companies access to their land to mine minerals for a fee. Several communities have also started
small scale companies that are using local plants in different ways, such as food, food additives,

Though underappreciated, advancements in medical technology are imperative to the success of
the human race as a whole. For instance, some of the most common medical procedures such as

Design Elements: While building this bridge, the first design element, was the deck design. We
took around one horizontal length of vertical popsicle sticks and lined them side by side, and
repeated. Later we connected them together with a horizontal popsicle stick. I then took two lines
and placed them ontop of eachother to create a flat surface. This way it will carry a lot of weight,
and it will also run smoothly. After this I created trusses to put on the side, so that the weight would
be evenly distributed amongst the bridge, instead of all the weight on one part. This would help stop
the bridge from immediately bending once weights were put into the bucket. To make the trusses I
had to take popsicle sticks and glue them into a triangle shape, and then glue them together from
the bottom. This way they wouldn t break apart. I then doubled them up so that it would be able
to sustain more weight. Under the bridge I placed a lot of beams, so that the bridge would hold

Initial interest and topic expansion
This paper started as a way to talk about my ethical qualms with the toilet and see if there was a
scientific basis to back them up. More than a history or philosophy of how the modern toilet came

Modern sewage formed in response to the 1858 Great Stink of London. The Great Stink was a
product of many factors. The introduction of flush toilets replacing previously popular chamber
pots increased water and waste volume into cesspits. Additionally, these cesspits, once only used for
excess rainwater collection, began to carry waste from slaughterhouses and factories, contaminating
the city before its ultimate departure into the River Thames, which began to overflow with sewage
along with its tributaries. All of this combined with an unusually hot summer encouraged bacterial
growth, a rancid odor, and contributed to a cholera outbreak. In response, London build thousands

Sewage treatment can be broken into two categories storm sewers and sanitary sewers [3].
Storm sewers
Storm sewers drain excess rain and groundwater from manmade infrastructure like roads and
parking lots, get less treatment or sometimes none at all. Sometimes it may be processed to remove
stuff like car oil [3].
Sanitary sewers
Sanitary sewers are processed to clean up human waste. Although there are many methods of
dealing with human waste, the generally accepted method in North America consists of a three

and decipher the different effects that various substances had on it. A Daphnia Magna is a
species of water fleas and can be located in the Northern United Sates against the coastline of the
Atlantic in rocky pools. The water flea s habitat consists of rivers and streams, temporary pools,
lakes and ponds, and brackish water. The Daphnia Magna range from two to five millimeters in
length and are shaped like a kidney bean (Elenbaas, Molly). Relating to this lab experiment we
learned in class that the normal heart rateis measured anywhere between 60 and 100 beats per
minute (BPM). If your resting BPM is measured at a level above the number 100 it is known as
Tachycardia. This term indicates that your heart level has exceeded the normal range. Also if
your heart rate is indicated below 60 then it is called Bradycardia, which means the heart is
beating slower than normal. When your heart rate is affected by a substance in the body it is
called a Chronotropic agent. When the heart rate decreases because of a substance or chemical it
is called a negative Chronotropic and when it is affected oppositely by increasing it is known as a
positive Chronotropic agent. In this experiment we added many different substances to the slide on
which the water flea was placed to calculate the increase or decrease in its heart rate due to the

The movie Braveheart, directed by Mel Gibson, tells the tale of William Wallace, a Scottish
warrior who leads the war against King Edward Longshanks , the relentless English ruler who
hopes to seize the throne of Scotland for himself. When Wallace was a boy, his family and many
other countrymen sacrificed their lives in the fight to liberate Scotland. When Wallace s wife is

of the countrymen questions him about going again such a large opposition he immediately
responds, affirming him they are. By responding with an immediate affirmation to a concerning
question, Wallace adds to his credibility. Wallace shows that he is no coward when it comes to
odds of survival, and also that he has faith in his men and his country. This inspires the men
because they now realize their leader is a man who believes that they re small number of troops are

After his introduction, Wallace asks the men, What will you do without freedom? Will you fight?

the English tyrants, William asks them this rhetorical question, which essentially causes the men
to make the logical connection that running will only lead them back to where they are now. By
asking questions like these, Wallace gauges his army s passion and courage to act for their

Throughout history, the Native people of North America and the Europeans have continually had
arguments and disputes over land. To this day there are still issues trying to be resolved. Twenty
years ago, the beginning of one of the most violent and intense land disputes in present day Canada
occurred. This event is now referred to as the Oka Crisis, named after the town Oka in Quebec.
This crisis caused a confrontation involving the Quebec provincial police, the Canadian armed

government objection to the development.13 In March of 1990, members of the Mohawk
society set up a protest in Oka with great anger over the expansion of the golf course.14 The
