Essay on Review of Ordinary Resurrections by Jonathan Kozol
Review of Ordinary Resurrections by Jonathan Kozol
In his book, Ordinary Resurrections: Children in the Years of Hope, Jonathan Kozol pulls back the
veil and provides readers with a glimpse of the harsh conditions and unrelenting hope that exists in
a community located in the South Bronx called Mott Haven. Mr. Kozol provides his own socially
conscious and very informative view of the issues facing the children and educators in this poverty
ravaged neighborhood. Just his commentary would paint a very bleak picture of the future. It is the
words of the children that give this book optimism and meaning. The courage and care exhibited by
the volunteers of St. Ann s after school program and the creativity of the teachers at P.S. 30... Show

Kozol describes an intimate conversation with a group of children in the sanctuary of St. Ann s in
which several of the children reveal that they miss their fathers who are in prison. One of the
children, Elio, even fibs about his father coming home the following week. Later he admits that this
is not true but will not admit where his father actually is.
During his time in the Mott Haven community, Kozol, at times, served as a father figure for the
children who yearn to share what is in their hearts with their own fathers. Kozol eloquently
describes his role, I once told another man I know, who fills a role somewhat like mine among
the children, that I felt we were like gleaners in the Bible, not in fields of grain but in a field of
love that can t be harvested by those to whom the love rightly belongs. (Kozol 130). There are other
men living in Mott Haven that also fill that void. Several members of St. Ann s parish offer
supervision and support. Other men direct athletic programs giving boys and young men an outlet
and alternative to destructive activities. Still, this involvement cannot quench the desire that the
children express to be with their own fathers.
Kozol points out that it is the women of the community that play a more consistent role in caring
for and nurturing the children. Kozol quotes one of the men as saying Women hold up the sky in
this neighborhood. (Kozol 131). Mother Martha is the priest of

Borge s Use of Berkeley s Idealism Essay
Borge s Use of Berkeley s Idealism
Jorge Luis Borges drew upon a number of philosophical and intellectual models in his writing,
one of which is George Berkeley s subjective idealism. In Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius, Borges
paints a picture of a perfect reality governed by Berkeley s idea that matter only exists in perception,
and in The Circular Ruins, he presents a man who creates a boy who cannot exist independent of
his perception. However, by employing Berkeley s logic in these stories, Borges is in fact denying
Berkeley s ultimate purpose: the justification of the existence of God.
In almost all of his work, Berkeley s fundamental goal is to logically disprove any thinking that
presumes the non existence of God (Muehlmann ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We may even assert that the existence of God is far more evidently perceived than the existence of
men; because the effects of Nature are infinitely more numerous and considerable, than those
ascribed to human agents. (Principles 109)
Borges uses the same theory and logic in his writing, but he aims instead to pick apart this
assumption of God.
The philosophy of Tlön, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius is described by one critic as a kind of ultra
Berkeleyan idealism according to which the only realities are mental perceptions (Dunham 36). On
Tlön, there is no concept of space or matter and, there are no nouns in their languages, only verbs
and adjectives. In effect, Borges uses subjective idealism to break down reality. Borges writes: The
nations of that planet are congenitally idealist. Their language, with its derivatives religion,
literature, and metaphysics presupposes idealism (Borges 23).
A system of geometry on Tlön rejects the principle of parallelism, and states that, as man moves
about, he alters the forms which surround him (Borges 28). This is perhaps an answer to a question
Philonous poses to Hylas:
Since all sensible qualities, as size, figure, colour, etc. that is, our ideas are continually changing

The Benefits of a Gender-Neutral Housing Facility
Introduction There are at least 54 universities and colleges which have, in the past 10 years, instated
the gender neutral housing and option for the students (National Student, 2012). These options
have been implemented in various different ways in the colleges and universities. There are
universities such as the Brandeis University that only provides the upper class students with the
option of gender neutral housing whereas, in the Hampshire College, students from any year can
have any roommate that they want even if they are from the opposite sex. Rutgers University also
allows the upper class students with the option of living in gender neutral housing; this option was
implemented in the university after a student committed suicide as he was being victimized by a
homophobic. In case of Harvard University only the self identified transgender students are allowed
to live in the gender neutral houses. The possible reason for this increasing trend of gender neutral
housing in many colleges and universities is the fact that these universities have accepted the fact
that the sex segregated housing can t fulfill the needs of all the students studying and living there
(Students for a Democratic Society, 2012). This paper thus analyzes the impact that the growing
popularity of gender neutral housings has had on the overall academic environment. The gender
group chosen for this paper is the stereotypes of the self identified homosexuals. What are the

The Story Of Stone Mother
Group 1, Question B The story of Stone Mother functions both as an origin and etiological story
because it provided a sense of values and explained the phenomena of nature s creation in time. It
s amazing to analyze how certain landmarks in nature were created based upon the stories that
were passed down through generations. The story shared the value of family and to appreciate
the connection that exists between people and nature. If one does not acknowledge each others
characteristics and the world around us, certain choices may lead to regrets later on in life. For
example, the children were separated and sent to opposite sides of their mother homeland (
Stone Mother, pg 11 12) due to discipline actions. Since the children left, the parent remained in
their original location but were very sad and heartbroken when they learned about the band
returning to fight the remaining groups ( Stone Mother, pg 12). Overall, the important idea that
this story wanted to provided is that any connections always exists among humans as well as the
nature that surrounds us if we take the chance to appreciated each other existence. Group 2,

Current Ceo Of Hewlett Packard ( Hp ) Company
For my paper I have chosen to analyze current CEO of Hewlett Packard (HP) Company. It is
especially interesting to me personally to track the success of the person who is no stranger to the
financial world and appeared at The Wall Street Journal , Time , Fortune ,
Business Week and to research the traits of leadership style of a huge technological company, along
with mechanisms of implementation of such a leadership approach and manners in which the entire
company shifted. I m talking about Margaret Cushing, also known as Meg Whitman who currently
holds CEO position of HP, an idol of a businesswoman. She was born in 1956 in Long Island, NY.
Graduated with MBA diploma from Harvard School of Business. From that she became one of
the planet s most successful CEO and powerful leader. Prior to HP Meg held CEO and leading
management positions in many large companies as follow: Hasbro Inc. Preschool Division as a
General Manager, Florist Transworld Delivery as
President CEO, Stride Rite Corporation as
President of Stride Rite Division, Walt Disney Company as Senior VP in Marketing, Bain
Company as VP, Procter Gambleas VP Brand Management, and CEO of eBay. Meg Whitman

What Is The Tone Of The Santa Ana Winds By Joan Didion
There are moments when mother nature does something that may be inexplicable to mankind.
There is not always an explanation for why things happen. This type of change is explained in Joan
Didion s essay The Santa Ana Winds. Didion tries to describe the instinct that people have which
tells them the Santa Ana Windsare the reason for the change in the climate and within one another.
Didion is able to convey the effects of the the Santa Ana Winds on Los Angeles Natives by using a
dark tone, comparing her reasons to reliable sources, and outlining an image of the specific changes
that happen. Didion sets a dreadful tone by associating a set of words that contain unhappy
connotations, with the wind. She begins the essay by setting up an unpleasant... Show more content

After she has provided her readers with an idea of how destructive the winds can be, she begins
to include specific examples of how different groups of people will react. Didion s perspective of
the city is similar to the view of a bird when flying over the city. This can be seen as an advantage
for Didion s essay which consequently, acquires a focused flow. She uses a personal experience
of watching her neighbor s husband [who roamed their] place with a machete. This example
supports her assertions about the winds causing unusual behavior. Her neighbor s actions are not
something that a psychologist or himself can explain. Instead, the way Didion herself makes
sense of it is that something in the wind (or nature) have turned on a switch for the world around
them. She maintains this fearful tone when describing the animals and the environment.
Additionally, Didion uses an oxymoron when she describes the ocean as ominously glossy. Her
readers begin to question how the ocean would deceive them. Didion s intentions are to make
her readers visualize the aspects of the ocean during this time. Once they have formed an image
of the ocean in their minds the flow of her essay is much smoother. Overall, detailed images
Didion paints for her readers is helpful to the purpose of her essay, which is to prove to that the
Santa Ana winds are not like any other winds that they know. The winds are local and will bring a
horrendous, unexplainable vibes in the

Virgil and Dante Essay
Virgil and Dante
In the note to Canto V regarding Francesca and Paulo, the Hollanders exclaim that Sympathy for
the damned, in the Inferno, is nearly always and nearly certainly the sign of a wavering moral
disposition (112). Indeed, many of the touching, emotional, or indignation rousing tales told by the
souls in Hell can evoke pity, but in the telling of the tales, it is always possible to derive the
reasons for the damned souls placement in Hell. However, there is a knee jerk reaction to separate
Virgil and, arguably, some of the other souls in limbo from this group of the damned, though, with
careful perusal of the text, the thoughtful reader can discern the machinations behind their
damnation.
Although the dynamic between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Arguably, like the fathers of the Old Testament, he foresaw what would occur though not
precisely knowing the saving details. Also, like the Hebrew prophets, his work is filled with an
underlying sadness. The Aeneid ends, not with the joy or inevitably glory and majesty that
would be Rome, but with the bitter, angry Aeneas plunging his sword into the breast of Turnus,
howling for revenge for the dead Pallas. Thus, it is not surprising that Virgil ends up in precisely
the same place as the writers of the Old Testament: Limbo. While in the first circle of the damned,
a list is given of these souls which include Moses, Noah, Abel, the patriarch Abraham (IV.58), etc.
However, Out of our midst [Christ] plucked [these shades] (IV.55) shortly after the poet s death.
These are not the only similarities between Virgil and the old prophets: as many came to reach
goodness in and through the Old Testament, so did the poet Satius, who appears in Purgatorio
reach Christianity only by the help of Virgil. True, there is some awkwardness when Statius
confesses this fact to Virgil, but this awkwardness translates also to the rift between the old
prophets and the new, as depicted in the Earthly Paradise in Purgatorio:

EXISTING SYSTEM
The exist of web based system is one of the recent trends in industrial automation system. In
particular, service oriented architectures (SOA) lowenable the development of flexible
manufacturing systems that avoid the traditional problem of centralized control. One of the main
advantages of SOA is it is based on open web services standards which allow individual web
services to communicate completely platform independent. Its more than accures then one process

Compound classification which can combine a number of flow predictions to make more
accurate classification.
It is fails to exploit the full potential of semantic web service descriptions.
To changes the set of web services available tend to invalidate the BPEL processes.
To determining the semantic resemblance of different condition and effect expressions is
challenging.
DISADVANTAGE
To avoid this problem the proposed system uses WEB ONTOLOGY.
This system ignores the failure process and takes successful process to the higher level within the

Innovation At Ike The Congruence Model
Innovation at Ikea
The congruence model includes useful components for developing a strategy that identifies and
fixes organizational problems. Santoku, 2013 describe this model as a roadmap for developing
strategy reflective of a competitive environment and considering the role of the company in
supporting any overall execution . The first step in the organizational design is to understand the
components: the environment, the resources, and the history, and how they relate.
For the first input component, environment, we have seen how Ingvar Kamprad, IKEA s founder,
used his environment situation to start his furniture business. His business maneuvers were
influenced by the needs of the residents in his small village. He moved from selling belt buckles to
self assembled tables and remains competitive through simplicity and price bargains for its
customers. Essentially, Kamprad s environment provided new market opportunities.
It is also noted that the success of the firm was influenced by its external environment in such ways:
terrorist threats alarmed many people and they found it essential to renovate their home into a safe
haven, furthermore, lagging economies contributed to a certain thriftiness in redecorating or
renovation. These factors imposed a demand for easily assembled and inexpensive furniture, which
IKEA offers.
Next, resources, which I believe IKEA signifies as important to the organization, because they have
a close corporate culture in place. At this

The relationship between these two macroeconomic variables i.e. stock prices and exchange rates
has attracted the minds of economists since they both are very important determinants of the
development of a country s economy. Volatility in exchange rateis a major cause of macroeconomic
ambiguity that affects firms. After the 1970 s, the High rise in international trade and
implementation of floating exchange rate establishment by many countries led to increase
exchange rate volatility. Pakistani currency Rupee was linked with the British Pound Sterling
before 1970s. In 1971, Pakistan linked its currency to the U.S. Dollar due to apparent economic
development of USA. During the past ten years, Pakistan s foreign exchange system has been
moving towards a floated and market oriented direction. Now, Pakistan is maintaining a floating
exchange rate with government managed to some extent. Firm s exposure to exchange rate risk
increased due to under these circumstances.
In the literature we identify three types of exposure under floating exchange rate system; economic,
translation and transaction. Translation and transaction exposure are accounting based and
explained in terms of the book values of assets and liabilities denominate in foreign currency value.
Economic exposure is the sensitivity of company value to exchange rate fluctuation. At the

Essay On Houston Environmental Issues
The City of Houston is a beautiful city that is known for its bayous, multiculturalism and its
importance to the US space program. It has also been known for its poor air quality with the city
ranking in the top 10 worst cities for air population in the United States, which is primarily due to
the most important industries to Houstoneconomy the Houston Ship Channel and the oil and gas
industries.
Over the past couple of years a new environmental issue has taken place illegal dumping, which is
astoundingly different than the environmental issues that the City of Houston has been commonly
known for, although it has devastating effect. In, fact what is rather unusual for this issue unlike the
issues of air pollution the oil and gas industry has little to no involvement with creating the issue.
While the city of Houston and Galveston had created guidelines for handling illegal dumping in
1999 the need to address this issue returned in early 2015. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Student Is The Best Part Of A Life
Many would agree to the fact that student life is indeed the best part of a life, no matter how
difficult and challenging it is. For any student definitely education is the most important aspect of
student life as it is the key to determine student s future. But the environment and surrounding can
have a greater impact on determining the meaning of student life. School and college is the
platform for American students to explore their talent and career. They have the freedom to build
do what they want. In case of Nepal, students join college and school to get a degree so that they
could get a job. And they have a lot of restriction and lack the opportunity to work as per their
interest. The lifestyle of students in Nepal is really different to that of America.
First of all in the student in United States are independent whereas Nepali students are dependent on
their parents .Once Americans attend college majority of them start working. They finance
themselves for their education and take responsibility of their expenses. And still end up getting
good grades. The way students allocate time for work and study makes them well organized and
determined. As students have to fund themselves for their expenses, they value time and money.
The independent nature of students from a very young age teaches them how to live a life and this
is one of the reasons why this nation has developed so much. In contrast Nepali students are totally
hooked on parents for their expenditure until

Doppel Daenger Gothic
Doppel Daenger and Female Gothic in The Black Cat
Doppel daenger the perilous thought that has been perpetually occupying the minds of many
scholars originates from the German language. By definition, this phrase translates to the existence
of one s double the concept of someone else independently existing with an equal identity to
another individual he/she closely resembles. The idea of shared identity prevails in the genre of
Gothic Literature, especially as a counter part of the female Gothic and predominantly in the great
American all time author, Edgar AllanPoe s literary works. By the same token, the category of the
Gothic genre called female Gothic entails both female authorship and emphasis on psychological
depth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One would ponder upon the narrator s consciousness that his misery would create an ability to find
joy in having the sweet creature around again. Surprisingly, the author grows disgusted and
annoyed by the cat s presence again, which gradually rises into bitterness of hatred and he looks
upon the cat with unutterable loathing (325). The cat s excessive pertinacity of overly affectionate
personality towards its master grows a repulsive reflex into the narrator such that he perceives the
cat s loathsome caress, its odious presence like a breath of pestilence rather than its loving
personality and loyalty (325). Evil thoughts bec[o]me my[his] soul intimates the darkest and most

Written mostly by female authors, female Gothic focuses on the psychological terror and emotions,
as its major constituents thus creating an intricate set for sophisticated psychoanalysis. As an
emblem of the female Gothic, this emotional and psychological intrusion sets the contours of the
female Gothic plot. Combining the perplexing double and the female Gothic, the plot proceeds to
intertwine into a peculiar triangular relationship among Pluto the original black cat, Pluto s
alternate self, and the narrator s wife. Female Gothic encompasses subtle women nature,

Reliability And Validity Of Test Scores
In tests and assessments validity refers to the degree where theoretical and empirical evidence
supports the meaning and interpretation of the test scores (Reynolds Livingston, 2013). Validity is
important in testing and assessment as validity refers to credibility from a trustworthy source. In
this respect, validity is important for scientist and professionals to select appropriate methods that
support the meaning and interpretation of testscores. In psychology, reliability is concerned with
stability and consistency (Reynolds Livingston, 2013). Reliability focuses on the context of

Reliability and validity can use improvement in terms of testing and assessment. Reynolds and
Livingston (2013) suggest that by adding more test questions can improve the reliability and
validity (Reynolds Livingston, 2013). Another suggestion is for constructs and content to be clearly
defined, otherwise, scores can get lost in interpretation (Reynolds Livingston, 2013). The bottom
line is that testing and assessments are not for everyone. A person interested in pursuing
psychometrics field must truly have a calling and interest in such a profession as it can be
complex with many factors to consider. In a sense, psychometricians are pioneers and
innovators who seek to answer questions of observations made. Thus, reliability and validity
may be more clearly defined by a person who has a clear idea of what they are interested in
testing. From a scholar s perspective, this writer utilizes various scholarly resources from the

Ineffective Human Resources Leads At The Performance Gap...
Ineffective Human Resources leads to the performance gap. There is no doubt that there are an
insufficient number of lab technicians which might have caused deficiencies in human resources.
However, the organization has eminently framed the lab hours of the diagnostic department in a

Dr. Lalitha agreed on early check up for Mrs. Kumari. She has eminently utilized the available time

Conquistadors Summary
The reshaping of the New World began the moment Spaniards set foot on the continent. Those first
conquistadors documented their encounters with native peoples, emphasizing their desire to
convert these peoples to Christianity and away from their heathenistic rituals. The documents
presented by Stuart B. Schwartz portray accounts from the perspectives of both the conquerors and
the conquered. His work does not provide much in the way of personal interpretation but rather
displays the documents so the reader can compare better both sides of the New World inhabitants.
These documents present an opportunity to consider moments of heroism, greed, and despair born
during the clashing of Spanish and Nahua cultures and challenge the way historians view such
cultures and the interpretation of primary texts. Schwartz s goal, it would seem, is not to persuade
readers of the accuracy of one source over another but rather to call attention to how personal
interests, class and ethnic biases, and politics influence the interpretation of the conquering of the
Aztec empire. Irene Silverblatt examines the new Spanish lands after Spaniards have established
themselves in and amongst the native peoples. She describes the development of a modern world
through the views of Spanish imperialism and argues that the Inquisition provides such evidence.
Using church records, sermons, and missionary guides, Silverblatt examines how the modern world
was build, experienced, and understood by the

How Cystic Fibrosis Affect The Occupation Of Rest And Sleep
Cystic fibrosis, a debilitating, genetic disease, disturbs the mucus glands of the lungs, pancreas,
and other organs. To fully comprehend the everyday impacts, envision Emily, a fourteen year old
girl struggling to adapt to high school life with cystic fibrosis. She spends over three hours a day
exclusively nebulizing and performing airway clearance therapy; this time does not include doctor s
visits or other therapists appointment (Sawicki, 2008). Due to the high treatment demand, Emily
feels stressed since she cannot find adequate time for social participation, homework, plus added
teenage milestones. Consequently, cystic fibrosisinfluences many of her occupations. Attitude has a
major impact on her overall progress of managing this serious, chronic medical challenge. A solid
understanding of the entire person helps create an enriched treatment plan and improved outcomes.
Starting the day, cystic fibrosis greatly influences the occupation of rest and sleep. Nasal polyps
develop inside the nose, which obstruct breathing during while lying down (Olson, 2015). In
addition, Emily develops many respiratory infections that worsen her ongoing cough; consequently,
interrupting her sleeping patterns. Many days, instead of going to school, she must go to medical
appointments or stay in hospital. The significant amount of time spent with health care
professionals reduces time spent in school performing educational tasks and developmentally

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Intermodal...
Intermodal steel shipping containers have been put to use for various things when they no longer
cross the high seas. Generally retired shipping containers are used as storage containers or are turn
into building construction site mobile offices. A current trend gaining strength in the architectural
community is transforming steel intermodal containers into the basis for homes and light business
construction applications.
Fortunes of a construction development using an innovative approach are influenced by the
research done at the front end of the project. Here we will take a look at the advantages and
disadvantages of implementing shipping containers as part of your building.

The intermodals will examine containers and condemn them if broken welds, twisted frames, or pin
holes are identified. For use in construction, some issues could be less significant than others.
Handling
The size and weight of the containers will require them to be placed by the crane or forklift.
Traditional brick block and lumber construction materials are commonly moved by hand
Chemicals
A container can hold a wide variety of freight while in its working life. Spills or contamination
might have happened on the inside surfaces and will have to be cleaned before habitation. Ideally,
the paint on every internal surface should be removed to bare metal and re painted with a non toxic
paint product. In addition, chemicals released from paint and sealants used in manufacture of the
shipping container might be harmful.
Temperature Humidity Extremes
Steel is a conductor of heat. Containers used for human occupancy in an area with extreme
temperature variations will need to be better insulated than most brick, block or wood structures. In
temperate climates, moist interior air condenses against the steel; rust will form unless the steel is
well sealed and insulated.

Cendrillon Analysis
Cendrillon is an opera comique in three tableaux by Pauline Verdi. This Operetta is composed by
seven voices and piano. The classic story of Cinderella is the plot basis of this work. However, in
this opera Pauline verdi interpret the traditional Cinderella story with some differences from the
master copy fairy tale. The evil stepmother is replaced by an unfriendly stepfather who did illegal
things earlier in his life, and through this he established a friendship with Barigoule. Another
difference from the recognizable Cinderellastory is that Le Prince (The Prince) initially arrives at
Cendrillon s home camouflaged as a bum, where he witnesses her generosity as she gives him
bread and tea, while her step sisters weren t generous to him. At the point when Cendrillon arrives
at the ball, Le Prince is disguised as Barigoule, so when they become hopelessly enamored he
realizes that she isn t infatuated with him due to his crown. Furthermore, because Le Prince meets
Cendrillon before the ball in this opera, it seems that he falls in love with her kindness personality,
and not just due to her gorgeous appearance at the ball later in the story. At the end Cendrillon
forgives her family for all of the pain they have caused her and they sing a happy song together in
the finale of the piece.
The cast of characters includes three sopranos, a mezzo soprano, two tenors and a baritone. It seems
very important to point out that Cendrillon by Viardot is a chamber operetta originally

Of Gods And Romans Essay
Of Gods and Romans
The Romans during the time of their Republic relied on their advanced technology, social structure,
leadership and politics to achieve as much as they did. To these people, their gods affected all of
these factors and the relationships mankind had with them. The contractual relationship between
mankind and the gods involved each party in giving, and in return receiving services. The Romans
believed that spirits residing in natural and physical objects had the power to control the processes
of nature, and that man could influence these processes by symbolic action. The first is a primitive
form of religious creed; the second a type of magic.
The services by which the Romans hoped to influence the forces that guided ... Show more content

Any unintentional deviation from the prescribed ritual meant not only a new sacrifice, but also an
additional one to absolve the error. In high occasions, on which a replay of the entire ceremony
might be an embarrassment, a sacrifice was performed as a matter of course on the pervious day,
to cover for any potential errors during the main ceremony. Multiple sacrifices were commonplace:
the word hecatomb, which derives from the Greek, means the sacrifice of a hundred head of oxen.
There was a distinction between signs that were solicited and those that appeared without
invitation. At many times, an individual would see an omen that gave him/her confidence to
continue a current course of action (52) other incidences produced warnings to change one s
itinerary (55, 74 75). The more startling or unexpected the sign, for instance a sudden flash of
lightning or an epileptic fit on the part of a member of an assembly, the more seriously it was
taken. It was not unknown for an interested party to throw a feigned fit in order to obstruct
proceedings. Lightning which appeared while auspices were being taken was good news, but not
so if it came otherwise. Certain omens such as scorpions fighting (55), sacrificing an animal that
does not appear to have a heart (303), or bizarre natural occurrences (74 75) were signs of disaster.
The gods also produced omens through the actions of men. When a child

Previously working in the automotive industry, Berry Gordy explored the idea of creating a music

Hypocrisy in The Scarlett Letter
HYPOCRISY IN THE SCARLET LETTER: The Scarlet Letter mainly revolves around sin and
hypocrisy. Every character in some way, shape or form is considered a hypocrite to some level

book have such horrid views of Hester. You d think that they have some sense of compassion or
show remorse for Hester but that was never the case. Overtime, it all dulled down her sin wasn t

Hester Prynneand Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale are the perfect examples of hypocrisy in The
Scarlet Letter. The way they re introduced in the story and the way the story carries them out to

hypocrisy, in the quote There was a frequent and characteristic demand for such labor as Hester

The Case Of Johnson Johnson
Although emergencies are unexpected by nature, the true character of a company is revealed by
how they react and handle a crisis. In 1982, seven individuals died in Chicago from taking Extra
Strength Tylenol capsules, which were laced with cyanide. Tylenol became one of Johnson Johnson
s most successful products, accounting for 17 percent of the company s profits. Extra Strength
Tylenol constituted 70 percent of all Tylenol sales (Lazare). Johnson Johnsonalso enjoyed an
incredible amount of trust and goodwill from the public, nurtured in part by its allegiance to the
company credo of responsibility to employees, consumers, stockholders, and the community.

Instead, the company advertised in the national media for individuals not to consume any products
that contained acetaminophen. When it was determined that only capsules were tampered with,
they offered to exchange all Tylenol capsules already purchased by the public with solid tablets
(Lazare). Johnson Johnson offered a $100,000 reward for the capture and conviction of the Tylenol
Killer whom was never found (Yang). The media commended Johnson Johnson for it s handling of
the crisis; for example, an article in The Washington Post said, Johnson Johnson has effectively
demonstrated how a major business ought to handle a disaster. The article further stated that this is
no Three Mile Island accident in which the company s response did more damage than the original
incident, and praised the company for being honest with the public (Kaplan). Johnson Johnson
could have easily blamed the stores for not protecting their product and for allowing someone to
tamper with the capsules. This could possibly have led to a lawsuit because the Johnson Johnson
brand was briefly tarnished from public outcry and scrutiny, which ultimately hurt their business
and reputation; something that money cannot restore. Like most large companies, Johnson Johnson
could have dismissed the situation by preparing a simple written statement or apology in response
to the seven deaths, which would deflect their liability in the situation. In my

creative, inclusive, heterarchical, and harmonious. Teamwork was of utmost importance in Swan s

also focusing on delivering accurate individual contributions. Furthermore, the culture did not offer
preferential treatment to executive managers over lower level employees; instead, it followed a
heterarchical structure of treatment which generated a sense of equality and energized the

Additionally, Swan consistently asked questions to force her team members to think broadly about
the implications of their decisions to ensure that they visualize a bigger picture of the potential
consequences and to be able to think of alternatives ahead of time. Swan also encouraged the
individuality of the employees by setting different guidelines for the different focus groups she
established. This ensured that while these teams will collaborate and work together, they will still
have to work individually according to their own guidelines. Swan also emphasized the importance
of communication by leading bi monthly Update Meetings, rotating the meetings leadership based
on the feedback from an internal survey, and opening lines of communication with employees who
were having tensions with other members or who wanted to communicate with Swan directly.

saturated media market, Swan was quick to prioritize capturing attention and differentiating the

The CIA initiated the training process by setting up training camps in Guatemala and trained

United States had prepared a small army to perform assault landing and guerilla warfare. If the

ways he attempted to do this was by assigning The Bay of Pigs as the landing point. The site was

Timely Treatment Of Post Conflict Liberia
The Timely Treatment of Post Conflict Liberia
Following the end of Liberia s civil war (which was borne out of the relationship of the US and
Samuel Doe, the Liberian people elected a government in a free and fair democratic elections), the
country was in need of the US and other world powers to help stimulate the country s economy and

American Civil War and Sectionalism
1.Approximately 180,000 Negros served in the Union during the Civil War. The Negro Soldier
was overall a good one. One example was at the Assault on Fort Wagner, South Carolina. The
54th Massachusetts Colored troops led the assault and scaled the fort s parapet and were only
driven back after brutal hand to hand fighting. The Negro faced some discrimination in the
Union Army in areas such as pay. It wasn t until June 15th, 1864 that the Congress granted equal
pay to Negro troops. Several Negro soldiers earned the Medal of Honor. The North attitude
towards Negro troops was mainly positive, while the South did not want Negros to serve in the

the 1970s and 1980s the thing to do in town was to hang out at the fire house. There was not as
much going on as there is today. People today want to spend more time with their family and go
out to the movies or mini golfing, things that family s did not do as much back in the day. The
average amount of training that a volunteer must go through is about 130 hours. Most people see
that as too much time to sacrifice. Also, in today s economy many people work a second or even
third job in order to make ends meet. There are also more single parent households then there
used to be, which does not allow for hardly any time to volunteer. Due to the reasons stated above
it is very difficult to properly staff fire trucks in volunteer departments. The average age of
members continues to increase. The few people left who still find time to volunteer often work a
regular job during the day, which makes day time emergency calls even harder to respond to with
proper staffing. The typical fire truck holds 6

The Medal Of Honor, A Vietnam Warriors Story
Having the ability to foresee the future is having a visionary outlook. In the book Medal of
Honor, A Vietnam Warriors Story by MSgt Roy Benavidez and John R. Craig. Master Sergeant
Benavidez was a visionary leader in his career as an Army airborne ranger because he embodied
idealized influence and to emergent leadership further his military career.
Visionary Leader
Master Sergeant Benavidez became a visionary leader in his career as an Army airborne ranger,
when he displayed his idealized influence when he selfishly took it upon himself to jump on the
next helicopter after the call came across the radio that his guys were under fire and they needed
reinforcements, with only a medical bag and a knife he bravely left. He exhibited service before
self and sacrificed his personal life for the mission, because of this heroic action, he saved 8 of his
comrades in Vietnam against overwhelming odds. In the bloodiest 6 hours of his life, he was
shot 5 times, knifed during hand to hand combat, and sustained shrapnel wounds when hit by a
grenade. When dealing with these types of adversities this is a perfect example of how emergent
leadership and how resiliency place a huge part in recovery and how he used these principles in
life after the war. Winners don t quit and quitters don t win . As stated in Medal of Honor that is
what his ranger drill instructor asked of him. A motto that he has always lived by. This was his
resiliency motivation.
In 1965 when he was an advisor in

Athena Flaws
Arachne SD Athena In one instant you ruined my life. Maybe people will look back on our story
and pity me, Arachne, a prideful and arrogant girl who you so graciously spared. But no one will
truly understand the misery you inflicted, dreams you shattered, and the curse you bestowed. No
one will see you the way I do. Don t mistake me, I acknowledge my flaws. I can see now that I was
conceited and foolish, but I was young and eager to prove myself.
As I grew up, weaving was all I knew. Born the daughter of Idmon of Colophon a famous purple
dyer, I knew from a young age that I would one day weave the most gorgeous pictures that would
be admired by all. Desire filled my heart to create something that would catch even your attention
and respect, the goddess of wisdom and skill, known for her talents in weaving. So for years I
toiled over my loom for hours at a time, until one day, I was satisfied. In these years my skill
grew at unimaginable rates, my pride and ignorance was never far behind. People everywhere
began praising my work. When asked if you taught me, I eagerly claimed I never needed your
help. I now see these statements were the beginning of my downfall, for even if my skill didn t
exceed your own, you would have punished me ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was then an old woman began scorning me for questioning Athena s glorious artwork. She plead

contest! It was then to both my excitement and horror, I watched this seemingly insignificant old
woman transform into a tall, golden haired goddess looking down on me. I looked up and met
your gaze, as fear slowly crept into my heart. I had no doubt I was staring at none other than Athena

Alfred Hitchcock Is Considered A Film Auteur
Select either Michel Gondry, Alfred Hitchcock, David Cronenberg or Pedro Almodovar (or any
other auteur with negotiation with your tutor) and provide a justification of how they could be
considered a film auteur.
How can Alfred Hitchcock be considered a Film Auteur?
In order for to find out if Alfred Hitchcock can be considered a film auteur, one must first find out
what is the true meaning of a film auteur. The term film auteur was coined from a theory
developed by Andrew Sarris, a film critic for which was the auteur theory, a theory in which the
director is viewed as the creative force in a motion picture. This means that the director has to
have a distinguishable personality as a criterion of value. Over a group of films, the director must
exhibit certain recurrent characteristics of style, which serves as his signatures. This also means
that a how a film looks and moves have some relationship to the way the director ... Show more

Another signature that Hitchcock used was the shaky mother and son relationship which is
frequently used in his films. To see an example of this, viewers just have to watch one of his
most successful films, Psycho (1960). Although this is a creepy representation of the
relationship, it is not the only time viewers get to see or hear about Mother. In Easy Virtue
(1929), John s mother does not approve of John s wife and will stop at nothing to uncover the
truth that she thinks she is hiding from their family. This is also the case in The Birds (1963)
when Mitch introduced his mother to Melanie, she does not approve of her and refuses to
loosen her hold over her son. Also, at the start of North by Northwest (1959), Mother is the first
person Roger calls when he is arrested, but as brilliant as Hitchcock was, he showed it in a way
where Mother and Roger were in good terms but as the film goes on, Hitchcock later exposes that,
Mother is anything but caring to her

ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF ORGANIZATIONAL
CULTURE
1. INTRODUCTION
One of the significant elements while discussing about organization development is to discuss its
own existing culture as the culture itself is part of organization behavior that gives significant role
in shaping organizational sustainability.
Above all there is a need to recognize the right culture for any organization to achieve excellence.
Peters and Waterman (1982) clearly described organizational cultureas the human side of an
organization with managers key role being to shape culture by making meaning for employees out

While preparing the planned change, an organization must be able to identify its own culture.
According to Md Zabid Abdul Rashid, Sambasivan and Azmawani Abdul Rahman (2003)
organizational culture is associated with attitudes towards organizational change. Different types of
organizational culture have different level of acceptance on attitude towards organizational change.
Organizational culture gives impacts on organizational change process. While referring to the
transformational type of change, there is no doubt that the transformation process, which regarded
as the most complex and comprehensive type of change process requires radical shift that covers
change in culture, behaviour and mindset of all the components within the organization.
Thus it is clearly understood here that complete understanding of organizational culture will lead to
and rightful approaches to tackle any organizational development and change process.
Organizational culture decides the way its members make decisions, the way they make
interpretation, manage and operate. In other words, organizational culture affects organization s
competitive position. Inability to manage organizational culture will give negative consequences on
organization s performance.

Corporate Fraud
Introduction
Overview Corporate fraud has taken the world by storm for over the past decade. The biggest
fraud cases to ever occur happened in 2001 and 2002 and since then fraud seems to be more and
more common around the world. According to Forbes.com (n.d) the biggest fraud cases to ever
occur was Enron, Bernard Madoff, Lehman Brothers, and Cendant, with Enron being the largest
accounting scandal to ever take place. Prior to Enron s fraud scandal coming to light in 2001,
they were the seventh largest company in the United States by revenue, this was the same year
Enron filed bankruptcy (da Silveira, 2013, p. 315). In addition to being one of the largest
companies, Enron received numerous awards for their positive business role. Enron received
the award for being the most innovative company from Fortunes magazine, ranking Enron as
one of the most admired companies. Enron received this award six year in a row by the year 2000
(da Silveira, p. 316). Furthermore, in 2001, Enron was noted on the United States list of being

President Vladimir Putin, The Former Official State Security
Throughout the course of history repressive forms of government have utilized specific elements
of power to manipulate their constituents. The Stasi, the former official state security of Eastern
Germany, is commonly referred to as one of the most oppressive secret police agencies to have
weald any political power. In present day Russia, President Vladimir Putinexploits his extreme
qualities of masculinity to promote and carry through a specific agenda. Both forms of
manipulation are incredibly harmful tactics to further control the people of non democratic
societies. The Stasi, formally known as the East German State Security Service, was founded in
February of 1950. The Stasi were synonymous with the evil that came from a communist... Show

This is in great contrast to more Western Democratic nations during that time period, which
many Eastern Germans only dreamed about fleeing to. In the summer of 1963, United States
president John Fitzgerald Kennedy, also known as JFK, traveled to give a speech in the
Democratic West Berlin. Only 22 months prior the communist USSR erected the Berlin wall ,
dividing the city by political ideology. Kennedy concludes his speech by stating Ich bin ein
Berliner meaning I am a Berliner . This was directed toward the citizens of Eastern Berlin who
wanted nothing more than to reap the benefits of a country like America. The Stasi s
involvement in the personal sphere of everyday individual lives is arguably one of the greatest
breaches of a person s God given personal freedoms of the 20th century. In the communist East,
anyone even vaguely suspected of being an enemy of the state could expect to have their phones
tapped, their apartments bugged, their letters opened and copied and even to be secretly
photographed or filmed. It was all used as material for their personal Stasi file. Under Stasi
supervision no one personal could obtain actual freedom. The File, written by Timothy Grattan, tells

Folk dance Music of Bulgaria
Bulgaria is a relatively small country but it contains a wide diversity of folk dance styles. I
believe this is the main reason why Bulgarian dances are so popular among international folk
dancers. Bulgaria is located in south eastern Europe and surrounded by Romania, Serbia,
Macedonia, Greece and Turkey. First, we will have a brief introduction of Bulgariaand its folklore
regions, then will introduce some folk instruments and describe each folklore region one by one.
Bulgaria has a population of 7.4 million people and occupied around 42,800 square meter. Back to

Two Theories Of Learning Essay
Theories of Learning
This part of the essay will analyse two theories on how children learn within a classroom.
Cognitive Psychology is the study of the processes and structures under structures underlying
knowledge . In other words Cognitive Psychology analyses how a person thinks, perceives,
remembers and learns (Murtagh, 2017, Lecture 2). This essay will make reference to Piaget s
Theory of Cognitive Development and Vygotsky s Social ConstructivismTheory. Both theories
have an immense influence on practice and educational theory today.
Jean Piaget studied how children make sense of their thoughts and actions in order to make sense
of their experience. Piaget developed the four stages of Cognitive Development (Campbell, 2006, p.
5).
Piaget states people should adapt to their environment. He described two processes for Adaptation (
Process of creating a good fit between one s conception of reality and one s experiences ), firstly
Assimilation and secondly, Accommodation (Murtagh, Lecture 2, 2017). Assimilation is the
process of using or transforming the environment so that it can be placed in pre existing cognitive
structures. Accommodation is the process of changing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

development forward . A teacher or peer offer help to the student, therefore the student is able to
complete the task with assistance. ZPD students require active teaching It s a waste of time to teach
kids what they already know and what they cannot do even with assistance (Utah Education

Enkidu And The Creation Of Gilgamesh
Enkidu is created for the sole purpose of distracting Gilgamesh. The Akkadian creation myth sets
mankind as a servant to the gods. Servant might not be the right term, though. Man was created
less to serve the gods, more to serve their will. This is not to demean man, but to bring man to an
almost godlike level without the belittling the gods. If man is more than just a servant to the
gods, if he is a necessary part of their primary goal, then man becomes a critical part in the
system. Someone who is part man and part god, however, would be occupy a much different role
in the Summarian world view. More than a simple servant, yet less than master, a partial god would
be self serving. Acting as the masters of their own fate, they would have... Show more content on

Why then have the gods deemed it necessary to make Enkidu a guardian of nature? Returning tothe
idea that man is meant to serve the gods, what service does this do? This seems to hint that
Enkidu is self serving. He does what is right by his own terms: defending his family and habitat. A
sense of purpose, beyond what the gods prescribe, is a decidedly non human attribute.
Once Enkidu is corrupted by the outside world, he is unable to return, not because nature rejects
him, but because he rejects nature. This behaviour is patently non godlike, as it is a fundamental
separation from origin. The gods are defined by their creation and background. Enkidu is also
mortal, which is another attribute that excludes him from being a god. Enkidu was created in
response to a request for an equal of Gilgamesh. The gods seem to think this is a perfectly
reasonable request because it is granted without any further complications. Aruru, goddess of
creation, then shapes a being out of clay, granting it life, and qualities comparable to the gods.
This is not to say that Enkidu is a god, simply that the gods are reference points in his creation.
The more interesting part of Enkidu s creation is the material he is made of. In the original
Akkadian creation myth mankind was made from the blood of Kingu, god of unskilled labour and
toil, and clay from the earth. The gods are made of the mixing of fresh and salt water. This is an
exceptionally important difference, because it means that the

The Feeling Of Love In William Shakespeare s Sonnet 116
Shakespeare s use of putting pictures in your mind and physical things that refer to ideas or
emotions in 14 line poem 116 hints that love is a constant feeling of love, hate, guilt, etc., which
never gives up to time. Love is a feeling of love, hate, and guilt, which all of us have an idea of. In
fact, a lot of us may even have experienced what we thought of to be true love. However, does such
thing mixed in the level of this feeling of love, hate, and guilt actually exist, and if it does are we
able to define it? This is something that William Shakespeare feels strongly about in Sonnet116 .
Shakespeare sticks to the traditions of the 14 line poem strictly within Sonnet 116 , as it is made
up of fourteen lines in total, with each line consisting itself of ten syllables. The sonnet also follows
a regular stress pattern.
The 14 line poem opens with a statement, proclaiming that it is not the purpose of the voice to
prevent the marriage of true minds . Basically, the voice is taking over what is to follow, in which
the voice outlines their order of what true love actually is. This is something that is put into aspect
by the following statement, love is not love, which changes when it changes finds (116 l.3); this
outlines the voice s main purpose that true love is steady and unchanging, it is not something that
shifts back and forth or bends in the face of outside forces. However it is not only the impact of
the outside world that are unable to bring forth, and as the

Changing World Politics During World War II Essay
Changing World Politics
In a political system superintended and galvanized by anarchy and inherited norms, transformations
and variations are inevitable. The origin of such system began with the Peace of Westphalia,
marking the termination of the 30 years war, and was the prominent beginning of the modern
international system of where in which Nation States are of the highest institution. This was the
end of the Holy Roman Empire (of that wasn t holy nor Roman) and the incalculable scores of
religious based wars that plagued the world for a power struggle for territory and valuable natural
resources.
Post World War II was some of the best times in the United States; from economic growth to
numerous job increase, and advancements into the technology helm, the United States was in
great state. Prior to World War II, the state of World Politics consisted of a post World War I
collective security notion that transpired until 1939. United States President Wildrow Wilson
conceived this ideology as a better way of the current balance of power. Collective security is the
approach to in that a global coalition of states agrees to act collectively to repel aggression against
any other state in the international system (Bova). In the text it states Wilson related collective
security around to his expectation that democratic governments based on the principle of popular
sovereignty were the wave of the future (Bova). Translated, Wilson saw a future of that the world

  • 2. Essay on Review of Ordinary Resurrections by Jonathan Kozol Review of Ordinary Resurrections by Jonathan Kozol In his book, Ordinary Resurrections: Children in the Years of Hope, Jonathan Kozol pulls back the veil and provides readers with a glimpse of the harsh conditions and unrelenting hope that exists in a community located in the South Bronx called Mott Haven. Mr. Kozol provides his own socially conscious and very informative view of the issues facing the children and educators in this poverty ravaged neighborhood. Just his commentary would paint a very bleak picture of the future. It is the words of the children that give this book optimism and meaning. The courage and care exhibited by the volunteers of St. Ann s after school program and the creativity of the teachers at P.S. 30... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kozol describes an intimate conversation with a group of children in the sanctuary of St. Ann s in which several of the children reveal that they miss their fathers who are in prison. One of the children, Elio, even fibs about his father coming home the following week. Later he admits that this is not true but will not admit where his father actually is. During his time in the Mott Haven community, Kozol, at times, served as a father figure for the children who yearn to share what is in their hearts with their own fathers. Kozol eloquently describes his role, I once told another man I know, who fills a role somewhat like mine among the children, that I felt we were like gleaners in the Bible, not in fields of grain but in a field of love that can t be harvested by those to whom the love rightly belongs. (Kozol 130). There are other men living in Mott Haven that also fill that void. Several members of St. Ann s parish offer supervision and support. Other men direct athletic programs giving boys and young men an outlet and alternative to destructive activities. Still, this involvement cannot quench the desire that the children express to be with their own fathers. Kozol points out that it is the women of the community that play a more consistent role in caring for and nurturing the children. Kozol quotes one of the men as saying Women hold up the sky in this neighborhood. (Kozol 131). Mother Martha is the priest of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Borge s Use of Berkeley s Idealism Essay Borge s Use of Berkeley s Idealism Jorge Luis Borges drew upon a number of philosophical and intellectual models in his writing, one of which is George Berkeley s subjective idealism. In TlГ¶n, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius, Borges paints a picture of a perfect reality governed by Berkeley s idea that matter only exists in perception, and in The Circular Ruins, he presents a man who creates a boy who cannot exist independent of his perception. However, by employing Berkeley s logic in these stories, Borges is in fact denying Berkeley s ultimate purpose: the justification of the existence of God. In almost all of his work, Berkeley s fundamental goal is to logically disprove any thinking that presumes the non existence of God (Muehlmann ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We may even assert that the existence of God is far more evidently perceived than the existence of men; because the effects of Nature are infinitely more numerous and considerable, than those ascribed to human agents. (Principles 109) Borges uses the same theory and logic in his writing, but he aims instead to pick apart this assumption of God. The philosophy of TlГ¶n, Uqbar, Orbis Tertius is described by one critic as a kind of ultra Berkeleyan idealism according to which the only realities are mental perceptions (Dunham 36). On TlГ¶n, there is no concept of space or matter and, there are no nouns in their languages, only verbs and adjectives. In effect, Borges uses subjective idealism to break down reality. Borges writes: The nations of that planet are congenitally idealist. Their language, with its derivatives religion, literature, and metaphysics presupposes idealism (Borges 23). A system of geometry on TlГ¶n rejects the principle of parallelism, and states that, as man moves about, he alters the forms which surround him (Borges 28). This is perhaps an answer to a question Philonous poses to Hylas: Since all sensible qualities, as size, figure, colour, etc. that is, our ideas are continually changing upon every alteration in the distance, medium, or instruments of sensation; how can any determinate ... • 4. The Benefits of a Gender-Neutral Housing Facility Introduction There are at least 54 universities and colleges which have, in the past 10 years, instated the gender neutral housing and option for the students (National Student, 2012). These options have been implemented in various different ways in the colleges and universities. There are universities such as the Brandeis University that only provides the upper class students with the option of gender neutral housing whereas, in the Hampshire College, students from any year can have any roommate that they want even if they are from the opposite sex. Rutgers University also allows the upper class students with the option of living in gender neutral housing; this option was implemented in the university after a student committed suicide as he was being victimized by a homophobic. In case of Harvard University only the self identified transgender students are allowed to live in the gender neutral houses. The possible reason for this increasing trend of gender neutral housing in many colleges and universities is the fact that these universities have accepted the fact that the sex segregated housing can t fulfill the needs of all the students studying and living there (Students for a Democratic Society, 2012). This paper thus analyzes the impact that the growing popularity of gender neutral housings has had on the overall academic environment. The gender group chosen for this paper is the stereotypes of the self identified homosexuals. What are the advantages and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Story Of Stone Mother Group 1, Question B The story of Stone Mother functions both as an origin and etiological story because it provided a sense of values and explained the phenomena of nature s creation in time. It s amazing to analyze how certain landmarks in nature were created based upon the stories that were passed down through generations. The story shared the value of family and to appreciate the connection that exists between people and nature. If one does not acknowledge each others characteristics and the world around us, certain choices may lead to regrets later on in life. For example, the children were separated and sent to opposite sides of their mother homeland ( Stone Mother, pg 11 12) due to discipline actions. Since the children left, the parent remained in their original location but were very sad and heartbroken when they learned about the band returning to fight the remaining groups ( Stone Mother, pg 12). Overall, the important idea that this story wanted to provided is that any connections always exists among humans as well as the nature that surrounds us if we take the chance to appreciated each other existence. Group 2, Question C Two examples of trickster stories from this week s reading were Coyote Wants to Be Chief and Bunding Host . Both of the stories teach valuable life lessons, but they each have different perspectives on what was needed to be presented. In the Coyote Wants to Be Chief story, Coyote accidentally fell asleep and missed his chance to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is especially interesting to me personally to track the success of the person who is no stranger to the financial world and appeared at The Wall Street Journal , Time , Fortune , Business Week and to research the traits of leadership style of a huge technological company, along with mechanisms of implementation of such a leadership approach and manners in which the entire company shifted. I m talking about Margaret Cushing, also known as Meg Whitman who currently holds CEO position of HP, an idol of a businesswoman. She was born in 1956 in Long Island, NY. Graduated with MBA diploma from Harvard School of Business. From that she became one of the planet s most successful CEO and powerful leader. Prior to HP Meg held CEO and leading management positions in many large companies as follow: Hasbro Inc. Preschool Division as a General Manager, Florist Transworld Delivery as President CEO, Stride Rite Corporation as President of Stride Rite Division, Walt Disney Company as Senior VP in Marketing, Bain Company as VP, Procter Gambleas VP Brand Management, and CEO of eBay. Meg Whitman stared her home run beginning 80 s, at that time she worked as an executive of a strategic planning department over at Disney Company. • 7. What Is The Tone Of The Santa Ana Winds By Joan Didion There are moments when mother nature does something that may be inexplicable to mankind. There is not always an explanation for why things happen. This type of change is explained in Joan Didion s essay The Santa Ana Winds. Didion tries to describe the instinct that people have which tells them the Santa Ana Windsare the reason for the change in the climate and within one another. Didion is able to convey the effects of the the Santa Ana Winds on Los Angeles Natives by using a dark tone, comparing her reasons to reliable sources, and outlining an image of the specific changes that happen. Didion sets a dreadful tone by associating a set of words that contain unhappy connotations, with the wind. She begins the essay by setting up an unpleasant... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After she has provided her readers with an idea of how destructive the winds can be, she begins to include specific examples of how different groups of people will react. Didion s perspective of the city is similar to the view of a bird when flying over the city. This can be seen as an advantage for Didion s essay which consequently, acquires a focused flow. She uses a personal experience of watching her neighbor s husband [who roamed their] place with a machete. This example supports her assertions about the winds causing unusual behavior. Her neighbor s actions are not something that a psychologist or himself can explain. Instead, the way Didion herself makes sense of it is that something in the wind (or nature) have turned on a switch for the world around them. She maintains this fearful tone when describing the animals and the environment. Additionally, Didion uses an oxymoron when she describes the ocean as ominously glossy. Her readers begin to question how the ocean would deceive them. Didion s intentions are to make her readers visualize the aspects of the ocean during this time. Once they have formed an image of the ocean in their minds the flow of her essay is much smoother. Overall, detailed images Didion paints for her readers is helpful to the purpose of her essay, which is to prove to that the Santa Ana winds are not like any other winds that they know. • 8. Virgil and Dante Essay Virgil and Dante In the note to Canto V regarding Francesca and Paulo, the Hollanders exclaim that Sympathy for the damned, in the Inferno, is nearly always and nearly certainly the sign of a wavering moral disposition (112). Indeed, many of the touching, emotional, or indignation rousing tales told by the souls in Hell can evoke pity, but in the telling of the tales, it is always possible to derive the reasons for the damned souls placement in Hell. However, there is a knee jerk reaction to separate Virgil and, arguably, some of the other souls in limbo from this group of the damned, though, with careful perusal of the text, the thoughtful reader can discern the machinations behind their damnation. Although the dynamic between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Arguably, like the fathers of the Old Testament, he foresaw what would occur though not precisely knowing the saving details. Also, like the Hebrew prophets, his work is filled with an underlying sadness. The Aeneid ends, not with the joy or inevitably glory and majesty that would be Rome, but with the bitter, angry Aeneas plunging his sword into the breast of Turnus, howling for revenge for the dead Pallas. Thus, it is not surprising that Virgil ends up in precisely the same place as the writers of the Old Testament: Limbo. While in the first circle of the damned, a list is given of these souls which include Moses, Noah, Abel, the patriarch Abraham (IV.58), etc. However, Out of our midst [Christ] plucked [these shades] (IV.55) shortly after the poet s death. These are not the only similarities between Virgil and the old prophets: as many came to reach goodness in and through the Old Testament, so did the poet Satius, who appears in Purgatorio reach Christianity only by the help of Virgil. True, there is some awkwardness when Statius confesses this fact to Virgil, but this awkwardness translates also to the rift between the old prophets and the new, as depicted in the Earthly Paradise in Purgatorio: Go read Ezechiel who ... • 10. Innovation At Ike The Congruence Model Innovation at Ikea The congruence model includes useful components for developing a strategy that identifies and fixes organizational problems. Santoku, 2013 describe this model as a roadmap for developing strategy reflective of a competitive environment and considering the role of the company in supporting any overall execution . The first step in the organizational design is to understand the components: the environment, the resources, and the history, and how they relate. For the first input component, environment, we have seen how Ingvar Kamprad, IKEA s founder, used his environment situation to start his furniture business. His business maneuvers were influenced by the needs of the residents in his small village. He moved from selling belt buckles to self assembled tables and remains competitive through simplicity and price bargains for its customers. Essentially, Kamprad s environment provided new market opportunities. It is also noted that the success of the firm was influenced by its external environment in such ways: terrorist threats alarmed many people and they found it essential to renovate their home into a safe haven, furthermore, lagging economies contributed to a certain thriftiness in redecorating or renovation. These factors imposed a demand for easily assembled and inexpensive furniture, which IKEA offers. Next, resources, which I believe IKEA signifies as important to the organization, because they have a close corporate culture in place. At this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The relationship between these two macroeconomic variables i.e. stock prices and exchange rates has attracted the minds of economists since they both are very important determinants of the development of a country s economy. Volatility in exchange rateis a major cause of macroeconomic ambiguity that affects firms. After the 1970 s, the High rise in international trade and implementation of floating exchange rate establishment by many countries led to increase exchange rate volatility. Pakistani currency Rupee was linked with the British Pound Sterling before 1970s. In 1971, Pakistan linked its currency to the U.S. Dollar due to apparent economic development of USA. During the past ten years, Pakistan s foreign exchange system has been moving towards a floated and market oriented direction. It has also been known for its poor air quality with the city ranking in the top 10 worst cities for air population in the United States, which is primarily due to the most important industries to Houstoneconomy the Houston Ship Channel and the oil and gas industries. For any student definitely education is the most important aspect of student life as it is the key to determine student s future. But the environment and surrounding can have a greater impact on determining the meaning of student life. School and college is the platform for American students to explore their talent and career. They have the freedom to build do what they want. In case of Nepal, students join college and school to get a degree so that they could get a job. And they have a lot of restriction and lack the opportunity to work as per their interest. The lifestyle of students in Nepal is really different to that of America. First of all in the student in United States are independent whereas Nepali students are dependent on their parents .Once Americans attend college majority of them start working. They finance themselves for their education and take responsibility of their expenses. And still end up getting good grades. The way students allocate time for work and study makes them well organized and determined. As students have to fund themselves for their expenses, they value time and money. • 15. Doppel Daenger Gothic Doppel Daenger and Female Gothic in The Black Cat Doppel daenger the perilous thought that has been perpetually occupying the minds of many scholars originates from the German language. By definition, this phrase translates to the existence of one s double the concept of someone else independently existing with an equal identity to another individual he/she closely resembles. The idea of shared identity prevails in the genre of Gothic Literature, especially as a counter part of the female Gothic and predominantly in the great American all time author, Edgar AllanPoe s literary works. By the same token, the category of the Gothic genre called female Gothic entails both female authorship and emphasis on psychological depth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One would ponder upon the narrator s consciousness that his misery would create an ability to find joy in having the sweet creature around again. Surprisingly, the author grows disgusted and annoyed by the cat s presence again, which gradually rises into bitterness of hatred and he looks upon the cat with unutterable loathing (325). The cat s excessive pertinacity of overly affectionate personality towards its master grows a repulsive reflex into the narrator such that he perceives the cat s loathsome caress, its odious presence like a breath of pestilence rather than its loving personality and loyalty (325). Evil thoughts bec[o]me my[his] soul intimates the darkest and most evil of thoughts, which lead him to commit a brutal murder towards his own wife thus representing the destructive revelation of the plot (i.e., self destruction in this particular story) (326). Written mostly by female authors, female Gothic focuses on the psychological terror and emotions, as its major constituents thus creating an intricate set for sophisticated psychoanalysis. As an emblem of the female Gothic, this emotional and psychological intrusion sets the contours of the female Gothic plot. Those first conquistadors documented their encounters with native peoples, emphasizing their desire to convert these peoples to Christianity and away from their heathenistic rituals. The documents presented by Stuart B. Schwartz portray accounts from the perspectives of both the conquerors and the conquered. His work does not provide much in the way of personal interpretation but rather displays the documents so the reader can compare better both sides of the New World inhabitants. These documents present an opportunity to consider moments of heroism, greed, and despair born during the clashing of Spanish and Nahua cultures and challenge the way historians view such cultures and the interpretation of primary texts. Schwartz s goal, it would seem, is not to persuade readers of the accuracy of one source over another but rather to call attention to how personal interests, class and ethnic biases, and politics influence the interpretation of the conquering of the Aztec empire. Irene Silverblatt examines the new Spanish lands after Spaniards have established themselves in and amongst the native peoples. The evil stepmother is replaced by an unfriendly stepfather who did illegal things earlier in his life, and through this he established a friendship with Barigoule. Another difference from the recognizable Cinderellastory is that Le Prince (The Prince) initially arrives at Cendrillon s home camouflaged as a bum, where he witnesses her generosity as she gives him bread and tea, while her step sisters weren t generous to him. At the point when Cendrillon arrives at the ball, Le Prince is disguised as Barigoule, so when they become hopelessly enamored he realizes that she isn t infatuated with him due to his crown. Furthermore, because Le Prince meets Cendrillon before the ball in this opera, it seems that he falls in love with her kindness personality, and not just due to her gorgeous appearance at the ball later in the story. Fidel Castro Research Paper In attempt to push Cuban nationalist Fidel Castro out of power, in April of 1961 the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) launched full scale invasion of the BahГa de Cochinos in Cuba that was unfortunately not a success and failed miserably within 24 hours. After two years of trying to remove Castro from his political position America was very optimistic about this final strike. However, between being outnumbered by Castro s troops and almost immediately surrendering the invasion was not effective. In 1959, Fidel Castrocame into power by overthrowing Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista and from that moment on the United States was very skeptical about him. If the invasion turned out to be a success a former member of Castro s government, JosГ© MirГі Cardona, was going to take the presidential position of Cuba. However, the plan was already in trouble by October of 1960 when Castro found out about the guerilla training camps that were based in Guatemala. Once John F. Kennedy became president, one of his first decisions in office was authorizing the plan in February of 1961. Although Castro was aware of the United States intentions, President Kennedy still put in effort to keep the U.S. support disguised. One of the ways he attempted to do this was by assigning The Bay of Pigs as the landing point. The site was a remote swampy area on the southern coast of Cuba, where a night landing might bring a force ashore against little resistance and help to hide any United States involvement (The Bay of Pigs). • 43. The Pros And Cons Of Volunteer Fire Departments Volunteer fire departments everywhere have staffing problems. If you take a drive past any fire department you will probably see a volunteers needed sign. A fire chief in Pennsylvania stated I would like to have a greater turnout of firefighters on scene than what we currently have, he said. We have a lack of volunteers who are able to respond during daytime hours (Shawgo, 2014, p. 17). There are several reason that there is not as good of a turnout as there used to be. Back in the 1970s and 1980s the thing to do in town was to hang out at the fire house. There was not as much going on as there is today. People today want to spend more time with their family and go out to the movies or mini golfing, things that family s did not do as much back in the day. The average amount of training that a volunteer must go through is about 130 hours. Most people see that as too much time to sacrifice. Also, in today s economy many people work a second or even third job in order to make ends meet. There are also more single parent households then there used to be, which does not allow for hardly any time to volunteer. Due to the reasons stated above it is very difficult to properly staff fire trucks in volunteer departments. The average age of members continues to increase. The few people left who still find time to volunteer often work a regular job during the day, which makes day time emergency calls even harder to respond to with proper staffing. This is not to demean man, but to bring man to an almost godlike level without the belittling the gods. If man is more than just a servant to the gods, if he is a necessary part of their primary goal, then man becomes a critical part in the system. This seems to hint that Enkidu is self serving. He does what is right by his own terms: defending his family and habitat. A sense of purpose, beyond what the gods prescribe, is a decidedly non human attribute. Once Enkidu is corrupted by the outside world, he is unable to return, not because nature rejects him, but because he rejects nature. This behaviour is patently non godlike, as it is a fundamental separation from origin. The gods are defined by their creation and background. Enkidu is also mortal, which is another attribute that excludes him from being a god. Enkidu was created in response to a request for an equal of Gilgamesh. The gods seem to think this is a perfectly reasonable request because it is granted without any further complications.
