Israel was established in 1947 and 1949, displacing Palestinian refugees and creating a Palestinian diaspora. Several major Arab-Israeli conflicts occurred throughout the 20th century, including the 1956 Suez Crisis, 1967 Six-Day War, and 1973 Yom Kippur War, establishing key UN resolutions and the Palestine Liberation Organization led by Yasser Arafat. The 1979 Camp David Accords resulted from negotiations between Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, US President Jimmy Carter, and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin.
