TASIK
TITIWANGSA
PROJECT 1
Taman Tasik Titiwangsa is an inland location
covering part of the city centre and the outskirts
of the city, consisting of a mix urban and semi-
rural areas.
Tasik Titiwangsa was a tin
mining area in Kuala Lumpur.
Before 1980s
“ This was in conjunction with the Malaysian Government movement towards an urban renewal where several policies were made to upgrade the living
environment (Abu Bakar 2002).”
THE BEGINNING
URBAN MORPHOLOGY
The mining area was then
established into a recreation
area for the local people.
THE CITY’S OASIS
Taman Tasik Titiwangsa is an inland location
covering part of the city centre and the outskirts
of the city, consisting of a mix urban and semi-
rural areas.
After 1980s
“ This was in conjunction with the Malaysian Government movement towards an urban renewal where several policies were made to upgrade the living
environment (Abu Bakar 2002).”
URBAN MORPHOLOGY
More high rise buildings are built
to accommodate more people,
hence creating a denser context.
“ This was in conjunction with the Malaysian Government movement towards an urban renewal where several policies were made to upgrade the living
environment (Abu Bakar 2002).”

main edges
The located site is bounded mainly by the hard

hard and soft
The located site is bounded mainly by the hard
edges or the urban typology.
The formation of soft edges have also created
a sense of pedestrian barrier and disconnection
between the lake and the public.
EDGES
with connections
The located site is bounded mainly by the hard
edges or the urban typology.
The formation of soft edges have also created
a sense of pedestrian barrier and disconnection
between the lake and the public.
In terms of pedestrian walkability, the
connections are mainly around the main edges
of highways and main streets with provided
facilities such as underpassages and pedestrian
bridges only.
EDGES
with connections and pedestrian walkability
The located site is bounded mainly by the hard
edges or the urban typology.
The formation of soft edges have also created
a sense of pedestrian barrier and disconnection
between the lake and the public.
In terms of pedestrian walkability, the
connections are mainly around the main edges
of highways and main streets with provided
facilities such as underpassages and pedestrian
bridges only.
Hence, creating an incoviniency towards users
who wishes to visit without their own vehicles.
Although countless of elements could be found
within Tasik Titiwangsa, the edges forms a
disconnection between these elements. Hence,
creating an issue of circulation and
accessibility towards the park.

SITE PERMEABILITY
Vehicular Access
Jalan Chan
Chin Mooi
Entrance from Tun
Razak Highway
Site 2 could be accessed from the main
highway (Jalan Tun Razak) and also from the
north (Jalan Chan Chin Mooi). Hence, its
accessibility would be much smoother.
Site 3 could only be accessed from the one way
street (Jalan Tembeling) from Jalan Tun Razak.
However, it would be inconvenient if they arrive
from the east or north as users might need to
take a lap to arrive to site.
Site & User Response
SITE PERMEABILITY
Pedestrian Access
Jalan Chan
Chin Mooi
Entrance from Tun
Razak Highway
Poor pedestrian walkability towards the park
when arriving with public transports due to the
pedestrian barriers that have isolated and
disconnected the street network.
Also, it is due to having mainly private and
semi-private government sectors on the east
and south.
Barrier

Site & User Response
Garden Buffer
The buffer zone of Site 3 creates a sense of separation
and privacy within the site. Hence, creating lesser
interaction between the space with the active public
realm.
To compare with, Site 2 has stronger public
relation and interaction.

Absence of Cleanliness
The surrounding of the site would not
have a pleasant environment if its
cleanliness is not well maintained.
Vandalism
Vandalism would happen due to the amount of
schools and students around the site.
Probability of
Vehicular
Congestion
Congestion might happen if both vehicular and
pedestrian circulation are not well planned.
