Cycle route signs help route users find their way, they advertise the presence of route and make people aware that routes are part of wider networks. Poor signage is a (the) major cause of frustration with cycle routes and has even been cited in coroners' reports* - when lost cyclists have ended up on trunk roads. Despite this, signage is often an afterthought.
This workshop will give participants a good understanding on what effective signage can look like, and how it can be achieved. As well as presentations, participants will cycle on parts of the National Cycle Network to see examples of signage in different (Urban and Rural) environments.

Kuala Lumpur’s town planning, public transporta-
-on, pedestrian circulaaon, and cycling routes
around the through the capital were never properly
designed for the users. Consequently, a recent push
by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) with permis-
sion of the Federal Government saw the city as a
whole and began to draa plans to redesign the city
landscape to favour all users. Through the develop-
ment of a building in the given site which aims to
benefit the public physically and mentally, a green
lung in this area would no doubt be greeted with
open arms by both the Federal government and mu-
nicipal body
The site given is located right in front one of

district in Tiiwangsa as a cultural idennty.
Kuala Lumpur is slowly stepping into a phase
which it relies mainly on technology with im-
plementaaons of city-wide centralised close
monitoring circuit system. Furthermore, dwell-
ers and communiies are heavily relying on
technology to commute or communicate on a
daily basis. With a recent technology reliant
services that have entered the market such as
e-bike sharing systems, the technology pene-
traaon of the city is to remain high into the
future.
Besides the basic regulaaons set out by DBKL,
new regulaaons are also being imposed in par-
allel with the Rive of Life project. Standardiza-
-on of signage, pathway finishes and building
facade are some of the requirements that
should be taken into consideraaon. In addiion,
the employment law and health & safety law
hashas to be taken into consideraaon along the
project development.
Polluuon of the river is one if the biggest issue
faced by the city. The lack of awareness of the
people and the increase in construccon are
contribuung to the exissng environmental
problems. Therefore, related departments and
communiies are required to take accon in
order to provide a healthier and beeer quality
ofof life in Kuala Lumpur. Where the Rover of Life
projects iniiaave aims to provide beeer envi-
ronmental and water management.

The overall layout is designed based on the concept synergy in re-
sponse to the building programme and the site context of Tasik Tii-

together with architectural elements in generaang a new sustainable
and open public building. The public open square on the ground floor
aims to aaract the park users and passer-by towards the building
which encourages interaccon as well as engagement of public in this
open sports ceopen sports center.
The trampoline spaces are designed in different sizes and units that
extends from the interior to the exterior and vice versa to express the
synergy effect through the alternaang solid and void arrangement.
Ressng/ breathing spaces and pocket gardens are added throughout
which allows strong conneccons both inside out the building, thus,
adding different outdoor experience to the users.

The Trampoline Park acts as the heart of the building while other sub spaces such
as gymnassc hall and parkous route are branches towards the heart. To catch the
aaennon of the public, the gymnassc hall make use of a perforated facade which
would spark the curiousity of the users to venture throughout the building, it also
gives off an elegant and mysscal light effect to the gymnassc hall. The structures
of the building are also extended to the exterior to create interessng voidal spaces
to frame and capture the accviies around the building. Which at the same me,
could act as part of the parcould act as part of the parkour route for the parkour experts.
The orientaaon of the massing is designed in consideraaon of the climaac issue.,
such as wind direccon, sun direccon and pedestrian flow. The public square which
covers the ennre center ground of the ground floor area are made to connect with
the park and the tennis court from the north and south subsequently. Therefore, it
could diffuse the crowd towards the tennis court which had been abandoned. In
order to provide friendly and safe pedestrian access, the vehicular circulaaon is
tucked to the sides of the site, allowing smooth movement of pedestrian flow from

PAM 2006 contains provision that give contractor to suspend the progress of work if the contractor is

16. Project success criteria is a tool or standard by which the project will be judged to decide
whether or not it has been successful in the eyes of the stakeholders. This will provide a learn-
ing opportunity for future undertakings by evaluaang the true effeccveness of the project. To
the project manager’s concern, the 3 main keys in determining the degree of success are
scope, me and cost.
The project success could be evaluated by
checking if the project have achieved the
objeccves stated in the scope statement
within the given framework.
1. Scope of the project should be clearly
stated and easily understood by the stake-
holders.
2. AAennon paid to the criical accviies and
paths listed using the project management
tool such as WBS, Gann Chart and Pert Chart
to ensure minimal delays.
3. Constant Review and updates of the latest
work progress.
scope
The project are to be scheduled in a mely
manner with extra aaennon to the criical
paths in order to meet deadlines with mini-
mal delay as the me and cost are directly
affected.
1. The project is aimed to be completed
within 18 months starrng from 1st May
2018 to 31st November 2020
2. Gann chart and criical paths are to be
planned accordingly
3.3. Risk Analysis are carried out with solu-
-ons well planned to ensure an efficient
work flow
time
Idennfying and taming cost escalaaon
during project execuuon are the keys to
ensure that the project is delivered within
budget.
1.1. The budget of this project is essmated to
be RM 7 Million funded by DBKL and MESA,
as well as the investor for a quality assured
sports center
2. Collaboraaon of the team and work plan-
ning to ensure resource efficiency
3.3. Building material and construccon meth-
ods are well thought and planned to im-
prove cost efficienct
4. Passive design feature (natural lighhng,
natural vennlaaon) are implemented to
ensure cost effeccveness in a long run
cost
17. However, the 3 main criteria discussed are not enough to determine a project’s success.
Listed below are the other success criteria criical in this project, which is more prone to the
stakeholder’s concern.
quality
Quality is defined as the standard to which the outcome of deliverables
meets its specificaaon and expectaaon. Quality tracking is essennal and
adjustment in response to the changes should be made accordingly in a
mely manner. MESA requested for a high quality sports center to foster
and train professional athletes for the beeer future. Thus, achieving the
quality is one of the most important criteria in this project.
organization benefits and business objectives
A project is considered to be more successful when the business objec-
-ves are met and extra benefits are obtained. Emphasizing the theme of
environmental sustainability, the building aims for Plaanum GBI raang
with 86+ points. This sustainable outcome would then benefit the organi-
zaaon by increasing its popularity and meeeng the objeccves by promot-
ing innovaave green features.
stakeholder & client satisfaction
Along with the team, the feedback of the clients are important. From
a strong engagement with the stakeholder, DBKL and MESA to track
saasfaccon throughout the project life cycle which extends all the way
to delivery phase. If any changes or dissaasfaccon are idennfied, alter-
naave soluuon must be provided while meeeng the planned frame-
work. This should be well documented for improvements in the future
undertakings.
health, safety & government requirements
Plan a review schedule in line with the project governance policy.
Review adequately throughout the project life cycle and check with
the advisory commiiee regularly to ensure the project meets the
health, safety, government requirements, and building codes.
18. / / p r o g r a m m e m a i n t e n a n c e
The main program of the building consists of trampoline park , gymnassc hall and gym which
needs proper care and maintenance to ensure the quality of space. Other major spaces such
as public plaza and cafe requires more frequent maintenance as it is expected to be a high
traffic area.
