Unified Communications Exchange
• What is it?
– Communications services beyond the enterprise
– Supports Enterprise Unified Communications – multivendor
– VoIP, Video, Instant Message, Presence beyond enterprise cloud
– Provide better monitoring and measurement of services
• How does it work?
– Connects “Sessions” together for communication
– Redundancy – Equipment is duplicated with failover support as standard
– Secure – hides critical servers from WWW + Secure connections to customers
(prevents incidents like SIP attacks)
– Scalable – supports 000’s of simultaneous sessions
– Uses SIP & H.323 protocols to provide best VoIP/Video support
– Supports NAT/FireWall Traversal (connects parties together despite these
obstacles) – good where sites don’t have expertise onsite
– Supports IPv6 (Future Proof)

Possible technical work packages (TBA)
1. Move current services behind the AUCX, explore Firewall/NAT traversal
solutions for greater security, border traversal access, reach.
2. Extend the AUCX with ENUM to cater for multi-dial plans on IP/E.164/URI
via SIP trunks/gatekeepers for personal video end users to connect to NVCS
and TP Suites.
3. Extend Telepresence Exchange services to interoperate with open
standards based H.323/IP via AUCX
4. Scheduling extended to Telepresence services with AAF access.
5. Test external cloud based conferencing services (soft MCUs).
6. Develop and test video applications for mobile devices accessible via 3G/
wifi/NBN/AARNet connections.
