Behavioural insights draws on research into behavioural economics and psychology to influence choices
in decision-making. By focusing on the social,
cognitive and emotional behaviour of individuals
and institutions it suggests that subtle changes to the way in which decisions are framed and conveyed can have big impacts on behaviour.
The NSW Government is now among the world leaders in the application of behavioural insights to public policy with a dedicated central team and work program within the Department of Premier and Cabinet. The Behavioural Insights Unit will discuss how behavioural insights is being applied to innovative policy making and trials underway in NSW and overseas and shows how it can be applied in the water and sustainability spheres.

The session will present findings from a synthesis report prepared by the CBD Secretariat on experiences with ecosystem-based approaches to climate change adaptation (EBA) and disaster risk reduction (Eco-DRR). It will provide opportunities for countries to share experiences and discuss ways to mainstream EBA and Eco-DRR into NAPs and other plans and strategies. Participants will be invited to take part in a group exercise to identify gaps and needs, as well as entry points and opportunities for integrating EBA.
Discussion of the current opportunities and issues young people interested in agriculture face, especially in regards to the challenges of climate change.

The post-2015 welfare reforms will take almost £13bn a year from claimants by 2020-21, bringing the cumulative loss since 2010 to £27bn a year. This is equivalent to £690 a year for every adult of working age, according to analysis by Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research.
Professor Christina Beatty said that the worst is yet to come for those who will be most severly hit, namely low income families with children. She urged local authorities to plan ahead for the impact.
Understanding exactly which low income households will be impacted by the welfare reforms, and how, is the challenge. Policy in Practice works with local authorities to do just that.
Our Low Income Family Tracker combines local authority data with a powerful modelling engine to show the aggregate and cumulative impact of reforms on each household so that local authorities can get the right support to those who need help the most, before crisis hits.

At IRRV Scotland Conference 2018 in Crieff Deven Ghelani, Founder and Director of Policy in Practice, was invited to speak about analysis and policy updates on Universal Credit.
In his presentation Deven talked about the Social Security Act in Scotland and Universal Credit, covering how different demographic groups are likely to be impacted. He highlighted analysis that Scottish local authorities can do with the household level data they collect on their local income households and gave examples of how other local authorities use this data to identify, target and track vulnerability.

Report on the 2022 survey of Cambridgeshire charities and community groups. Survey looked at the impact the pandemic had on the sector and what the future needs for support might be.
We have a vibrant and diverse voluntary and community sector in Cambridgeshire. On the whole there is optimism for the future. 59% of respondents think that 2022 will be a better year than 2021 for their organisation.
We have seen the sector working with other partners to make the pandemic as bearable as possible.
We have seen incredible efforts put in by staff, volunteers and trustees.
We have seen groups adapting and learning to ensure services were continued and improved.
We know that there are challenges ahead but we have seen positive changes starting to happen. We need to build on what we have, learn from our mistakes and celebrate our successes.
Using benefits data to study employment trends in London Policy in Practice
Deven Ghelani, Director and Founder of Policy in Practice, delivered this presentation at the ERSA Employment Support London meeting on 22 February 2018.
In it he answers three questions employment related questions using findings from recent analysis on low income Londoners carried out by Policy in Practice, funded by Trust for London.
