Area & Volume
What is Area?
• In geometry, the area can be
defined as the space occupied by a
flat shape or the surface of an
object.
• The area of a figure is the number
of unit squares that cover the
surface of a closed figure. Area is
measured in square units such as
square centimteres, square feet,
square inches, etc.
2
What is Volume?
• Volume is the 3-
dimensional space
enclosed by a
boundary or occupied
by an object. The
volume of an object is
measured in cubic
units such as cubic
centimeters, cubic
inch, cubic foot, cubic
meter, etc.
3
The area is the region covered by
the closed plane figure,
the volume is the amount of
space occupied by an object. The
measurement of area is done in
suqare metres, whereas the
measurement of volume is done
in cubic metres.

What is a composite figure?
•A figure (or shape)
that can be divided
into more than one of
the basic figures is
said to be a composite
figure (or shape).
