Application: Application of Theories Attribution theory is one of the hallmarks within the field of social cognition. Theories such as Heider’s naïve psychology theory, Jones and Davis’ correspondent inference theory, and Kelley’s covariation model provide seminal contributions to this field. Although these theories differ in level of complexity and detail, all attempt to provide a consistent explanation why humans behave as they do. For this Application Assignment, select one of the two vignettes provided. Then, consider two attribution theories and analyze the constructs of each theory. Apply the key constructs of the theories to the vignette, and analyze how the theory may explain what occurred. Vignette #1: Molly, 62-year-old Caucasian American Female Molly exited her doctor’s office and promptly lit a cigarette. In doing so, she missed her bus and would have to wait an additional 30 minutes for the next one. She thought about Dr. Wilson, her primary care physician, who was not too concerned about her smoking. Then, she thought about Dr. Smith, her cardiologist, who had clearly stated that she needs to stop smoking. Waiting for the next bus was no problem for Molly; she could enjoy a second cigarette. Vignette #2: James, 35-year-old African American Male Anticipating the long weekend ahead to be filled with social opportunities with friends and family, James felt overwhelmed and left work early on Thursday. While en route, James thought that perhaps having some quiet time now might make the weekend more enjoyable. Besides, his stomach was bothering him and he had a sizable headache. He worried a little about what his office mates thought of his departure, as this was the sixth time in the past month he had left early. Psychodynamic
theory
and its derivatives can be traced to the father of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud. You likely are familiar with the image that often conjures Freud: A client lying on a couch with a therapist sitting nearby, notepad in hand. The psychoanalytic terms “id,” “ego,” “superego,” “repression,” and “unconscious” are deeply embedded in the layperson’s jargon.
Many
theories
have sprung from Freud’s psychoanalytical principles. Attachment
theory
is one example. Its originator, John Bowlby, was directly influenced by Freud, but because of Bowlby’s experiences in working with disturbed children, he believed that a child’s psychosocial development is linked to their attachment to the mother. Because all
theories
must be tested using empirical research methods, Mary Ainsworth tested John Bowlby’s theory using the Strange Situation experiment, which involved observing children react to caregivers and strangers. The results from her research led to what we now know as attachment styles.

Psychodynamic theories are views that describe personality based on conscious and unconscious forces. Personality is the difference in an individual that makes the person have distinctive behavior, patterns of thought and feeling. Personality lends consistency to the character of an individual. The character of a person is shaped by both the environmental and hereditary forces (Matthews, G. et al., 2009). Personality mostly focuses on two broad area. These are understanding discrete differences in a particular trait of a personality such as sociability or irritability, and understanding the way different parts of an individual are joined as a whole.
Famous theorists did work on the psychodynamic theories where they tried to explain the concept of personality. The leading theorists were Sigmund Freud, Alfred Adler, and Erik Erikson. Every theory focuses on explaining nature and the process of a character. The Object Relations Theory is also included in the group of personality theories. The theories perform psychoanalysis, a therapy that tries to disclose unconscious desires and thoughts. All psychologists do not accept psychodynamic theories. The theories have been criticized because of their lack of scientific data to support them.
Freud’s theory:
In this theory, Freud points out that personality includes ego, id, and the super-ego. He said that these three parts worked with each other to create the human character. The id makes a person to be responsible for seeking pleasure and instincts. The superego makes an individual to try to obey the rules of the elders and the society while the ego acts as a mediator between the id and superego on the basis of the demands of reality (Borden, W., 2009). For example, id makes people want food, the ego assists people in looking for a reasonable way to get food, and the superego holds the individual’s morality. According to Freud, the personality of a person is driven by id, superego, and ego.
Strengths and weaknesses:
The theory had both strengths and limitations. Let’s start with the advantages. One, the theory provides a broad framework for the description of the personality of persons. This approach was considered to have power in its explanation. However, it had limitations. Its major problem was that it was not scientifically valid. For example, the theory can help in explaining causes of an abnormality like a child trauma; however, it lacks research evidence to support it. The ideas of Freud were based mostly on his subjective analysis.
Adler’s theory:
Adler came up with the first holistic personality theory. His theory was connected to a humanistic philosophy of living. In his worker, he revealed an uncommon understanding of mental disorders and a big inspiration for.

Psychodynamic theories are views that describe personality based on conscious and unconscious forces. Personality is the difference in an individual that makes the person have distinctive behavior, patterns of thought and feeling. Personality lends consistency to the character of an individual. The character of a person is shaped by both the environmental and hereditary forces (Matthews, G. et al., 2009). Personality mostly focuses on two broad area. These are understanding discrete differences in a particular trait of a personality such as sociability or irritability, and understanding the way different parts of an individual are joined as a whole.
Famous theorists did work on the psychodynamic theories where they tried to explain the concept of personality. The leading theorists were Sigmund Freud, Alfred Adler, and Erik Erikson. Every theory focuses on explaining nature and the process of a character. The Object Relations Theory is also included in the group of personality theories. The theories perform psychoanalysis, a therapy that tries to disclose unconscious desires and thoughts. All psychologists do not accept psychodynamic theories. The theories have been criticized because of their lack of scientific data to support them.
Freud’s theory:
In this theory, Freud points out that personality includes ego, id, and the super-ego. He said that these three parts worked with each other to create the human character. The id makes a person to be responsible for seeking pleasure and instincts. The superego makes an individual to try to obey the rules of the elders and the society while the ego acts as a mediator between the id and superego on the basis of the demands of reality (Borden, W., 2009). For example, id makes people want food, the ego assists people in looking for a reasonable way to get food, and the superego holds the individual’s morality. According to Freud, the personality of a person is driven by id, superego, and ego.
Strengths and weaknesses:
The theory had both strengths and limitations. Let’s start with the advantages. One, the theory provides a broad framework for the description of the personality of persons. This approach was considered to have power in its explanation. However, it had limitations. Its major problem was that it was not scientifically valid. For example, the theory can help in explaining causes of an abnormality like a child trauma; however, it lacks research evidence to support it. The ideas of Freud were based mostly on his subjective analysis.
Adler’s theory:

Section 2.1 Overview of Research Designs
In the early 1950s, Canadian physician Hans Selye introduced the term stress into both the
medical and popular lexicons. By that time, it had been accepted that humans have a well-
evolved fight-or-flight response, which prepares them either to fight back or flee from danger,
largely by releasing adrenaline and mobilizing the body’s resources more efficiently. While
working at McGill University, Selye began to wonder about the health consequences of adren-
aline and designed an experiment to test his ideas using rats. Selye injected rats with doses
of adrenaline over a period of several days and then euthanized the rats in order to examine
the physical effects of the injections. Just as he had hypothesized, rats that were exposed to
adrenaline had developed ill effects, such as ulcers, increased arterial plaques, and decreases
in the size of reproductive glands—all now understood to be consequences of long-term
stress exposure. But there was just one problem. When Selye took a second group of rats and
injected them with a placebo, they also developed ulcers, plaques, and shrunken reproductive
glands.
Fortunately, Selye was able to solve this scientific mystery with a little self-reflection. Despite
all his methodological savvy, he turned out to be rather clumsy when it came to handling
rats, occasionally dropping one when he removed it from its cage for an injection. In essence,
the experience for both groups of rats was one that we would now call stressful, and it is no

The Theoretical Evaluation Self-Test (TEST) was developed by Daniel Coleman. It is a quantitative instrument that measures a therapist's theoretical orientation. It consists of 30 close-ended statements with a 7-point Likert scale, asking the extent of agreement about “psychotherapy, the human psyche, and the therapeutic process” (Coleman, 2003, p. 74). The seven theoretical orientations that are measured are psychodynamic, biological, family systems, ecosystems, cognitive, pragmatic, and humanistic.
Coleman (2003) cautions that the TEST is not meant to give therapists a conclusive and definitive sense of their theoretical orientation. Rather, the goal is to promote self-reflection about their personal tendencies toward approaching therapy.

In this book, Akerlof and Dickens came up with an economic model of the phenomenon of cognitive dissonance. The two explain the phenomenon of cognitive dissonance using three simplified propositions. The first one they consider is the development of preferences of the actual state in addition to the traditional assumption over the actual state of the world; they also tend to have preferences over their own beliefs of the actual state of the world. They give an example of people believing that they are smart and compassionate. The other proposition is that people can only control their beliefs partially. Four months later, Jessica and Marco arrive at the county hospital, a large, public, nonteaching hospital. A preliminary ultrasound indicates a possible abnormality with the fetus. Further scans are conducted, and it is determined that the fetus has a rare condition in which it has not developed any arms and will not likely develop them. There is also a 25% chance that the fetus may have Down syndrome.
Dr. Wilson, the primary attending physician, is seeing Jessica for the first time, since she and Marco did not receive earlier prenatal care over concerns about finances. Marco insists that Dr. Wilson refrain from telling Jessica the scan results, assuring him that he will tell his wife himself when she is emotionally ready for the news. Section 2.1 Overview of Research Designs
In the early 1950s, Canadian physician Hans Selye introduced the term stress into both the
medical and popular lexicons. By that time, it had been accepted that humans have a well-
evolved fight-or-flight response, which prepares them either to fight back or flee from danger,
largely by releasing adrenaline and mobilizing the body’s resources more efficiently. While
working at McGill University, Selye began to wonder about the health consequences of adren-
aline and designed an experiment to test his ideas using rats. Selye injected rats with doses
of adrenaline over a period of several days and then euthanized the rats in order to examine
the physical effects of the injections. Just as he had hypothesized, rats that were exposed to
adrenaline had developed ill effects, such as ulcers, increased arterial plaques, and decreases
in the size of reproductive glands—all now understood to be consequences of long-term
stress exposure. But there was just one problem. When Selye took a second group of rats and
injected them with a placebo, they also developed ulcers, plaques, and shrunken reproductive
glands.
Fortunately, Selye was able to solve this scientific mystery with a little self-reflection. Despite
all his methodological savvy, he turned out to be rather clumsy when it came to handling
rats, occasionally dropping one when he removed it from its cage for an injection. In essence,
the experience for both groups of rats was one that we would now call stressful, and it is no

Developing self-awareness starts with taking time to reflect on your own strengths and weaknesses, what distresses you, and what you find most comfortable in social work practice with your clients and colleagues. You have read about many

The Theoretical Evaluation Self-Test (TEST) was developed by Daniel Coleman. It is a quantitative instrument that measures a therapist's theoretical orientation. It consists of 30 close-ended statements with a 7-point Likert scale, asking the extent of agreement about “psychotherapy, the human psyche, and the therapeutic process” (Coleman, 2003, p. 74). The seven theoretical orientations that are measured are psychodynamic, biological, family systems, ecosystems, cognitive, pragmatic, and humanistic.
Coleman (2003) cautions that the TEST is not meant to give therapists a conclusive and definitive sense of their theoretical orientation. Rather, the goal is to promote self-reflection about their personal tendencies toward approaching therapy.

Wellcome Israel is a pharmaceutical company operating in Israel. Wellcome is being acquired by Glaxo and soon will become Wellcome-Glaxo. All employees and management were extremely surprised by the takeover and are having a hard time processing it. The main them and problem that will be noted in this post is the lack of communication, direction and vision.
Glaxo-Wellcome is on the way to becoming one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. There is an apparent hostile takeover in progress that no one including Wellcome management is aware of. As with any change there are periods of uncertainty, fear, and anxiety. The main focus is a general manager Ofra Sherman and her team who works for Wellcome Israel through Promedico. This takeover was done in a manner that is very disturbing in the fact that there was no communication and very little guidance throughout the entire process.
What they should have done is really quite simple and that is communicate. As I mentioned before change is a very anxious time and can lead to stress and poor work performance for those involved. “Good communication throughout every stage of the change process is vital to keep everyone informed and motivation levels high.” (Kirke 2012) This takeover shouldn’t have been a surprise to Wellcome and they should have been upfront with employees about what was going to occur and then once the takeover by Glaxo started the communication should have ramped up. I think one of the best ways to have handled this would have been to have teams from both companies setting up meetings so there was a continuous flow of information.

The progression of the reaction will be observed using a pH meter and a titration curve will be created using the experimental data. You will start with a sample containing only the acid and indicator and slowly add your standardized base. A titration curve is simply a plot of the pH of an acid versus the volume of base added, or vice versa. The titration curve gives a good description of how an acid-base reaction proceeds. The pH will start out low and acidic, then increase as it approaches the equivalence point, where the concentration of acid equals that of the base. Then as the solution becomes more basic, it will slowly rise and level off as an excess amount of base is added. Note that the equivalence point is slightly different from the endpoint of a titration. The endpoint is when the indicator changes color. This does not always correspond to the equivalence point.

With your first sample, select an indicator from the two options and do a quick titration by adding 1 mL increments until you reach pH 2.5; then dropwise increments until you reach pH 10.7; after that add 1 mL increments until pH 11.5. Allow time for the reaction vessel to become equilibrated and for the pH reading to become stabilized and then record the pH value in your notebook alongside the buret reading. Leave an empty column between the buret reading and the pH in which to place the volume of NaOH added (difference between present buret reading and initial buret reading). Central Message: Auditing has had to change from “around the computer” to “through the
computer” due to sources only being available in electronic form. CAATs and CAATTs improve
efficiency and effectiveness of audits. A variety of standards and statements were issued because
new guidance was necessary once the growth of IT affected the nature, timing, and extent of audit
procedures. Continuous auditing is the key to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of audits.
Author’s Theme: Auditors are advised to use CAATs to gather evidence so that they can increase
the efficiency of inspection and analytical review. One of the many statements released on IT, SAS
94, stressed that IT’s impact on internal control is a result of the nature and extent of the system’s
complexity rather than the size of the firm, which is why auditing through the computer is
important when testing controls. Auditors can pinpoint the risk areas and thus have a better idea of
what to inquire when questioning management; improving the quality of the evidence and thus the
audit. Importance: Advancement in information technology has a direct impact on business
processes and the audit. Increasingly, auditors are required to perform audits in computerized
environments; therefore, additional standards are required to ensure that financial statements
auditors continue to perform high quality audits. Conclusion/Opinions: (1) The author concludes
that auditing through the computer is important when testing controls because of the impact IT has
on internal control. GAAS field work #2 supports this because the IT system is a part of the entity’s
environment, and especially, when it is complex, the auditor must audit through the computer to
adequately assess internal control risk. (2) Using CAATs can increase the efficiency of audit
procedures. SAS No. 106 indicates that CAATs allow auditors to inspect electronic evidence directly.
(3) Auditors should use data analysis from audit software in order to pinpoint the risk areas and
gain a better idea of what to ask management. AS # 5 states that risk assessment underlies the
entire audit process, including the determination of significant accounts and relevant assertions,
selecting controls to test, and determining the evidence necessary.

2. Article Summary:
“Transmission Unaccomplished” written in the Lex section of Friday’s Financial Times
offers an interesting and simplified perspective of the complex and sophisticated purpose and
workings of monetary policy. At a time when the world is reeling from the effects of
misunderstood monetary policy in the United States and other nations around the globe, this
article clearly cuts to the heart of the matter, provides a simple, easy to understand analogy
relating monetary policy to an automobile. The authors describe the key moving parts of the
economy as they correlate to their counterparts in an automobile. While he labor and
resources constitute the fuel of the economy, technology and institutions correspond to the
engine, and commerce is depicted as wheels. The financial system is the transmission,
responsible for moving the power and energy created by the fuel and engine to the wheels.
This simple analogy helps frame the context for the reason why central bankers – the
transmission mechanics – were facing increasing difficulty. In particular, the 1.6 % drop in
the dollar’s value, the lack of real economic turn-around, and the lagging increase in GDPs
around the world. The authors seem to think the US, despite an increasing saving rate and
10% deleveraging, still has long ways to go on the road to recovery, and the automobile
analogy suggests, is in need of significant repairs and rebuilding before it is truly road worthy.
3. How is the article is related to the readings and class discussions?
The concepts in the article mesh with the readings in chapters 3 – 5 as a current, real world
depiction of how monetary policy influences decisions in economics. The article highlights the
need for central bankers to properly manage monetary policy in order to maintain the
transmission of the vehicle, and keep the proper amount of power moving from the motor to the
wheels. It questions the true value of quantitative easing, and highlights the ramifications of
pursuing excessive QE as a policy. Just as was discussed in the first five chapters of the text
book, monetary policy involves a delicate balance of adjusting interest rates, setting currency
value, and establishing guidelines that enable prosperity and growth. The article also identifies
too much intervention as a possible means for enhancing the problems we face, rather than
ameliorating the problems.
4. What did I learn from this article?
This article certainly helped put monetary policy, something I seem to be familiar with only
through studying politics and economics, into a very concise, easy to understand framework that
enables a deeper understanding of greater associated issues. I learned that the US liabilities are

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
