“Youth-led Tech | Summer 2015” is a technology mentoring program in five Chicago neighborhoods: Austin, Englewood, Humboldt Park, North Lawndale, and Roseland. As part of this program, we’re teaching various classes on digital skills. We’ve open sourced our curriculum through a series of blog posts.
We cover an introductions to WordPress, Wordpress dashboards, themes, how to post, and how to add media to your WordPress site. We also have set time aside each day for students to work on their typing skills.
These are minute-by-minute guides on teaching the youth. If you want to start your own Youth-Led Tech program, this is the place to start. At Smart Chicago, we are dedicated to sharing all of our methods. Not just code published to Github (though we do that, too), but whole swaths of templates, resources, and guides that help spread the practice of community technology.

App Icon
1. Create your own app
icon….
Your task for today is to create your own app icon for the new year 7’s
next year. With all the greatest features that you can use.
2. Lets have a look at some app
icons…..
What do they look like?
What kind of features do they have to them?
Are they colourful and bright?
3. As you could see on those apps??
On the previous page you could see 7 images of some app icons. Some were for all ages and
some were for certain ages. Every phone should have a similar app to them. So lets answer
the questions that I asked you on the other page???
What do they look like??
The app sign has a image link to go with the app bright and colourful goes with the app.
What kind of features do they have on them?
Shows what the app is about by an image
Are they colourful and bright?
Yes, they are very bright.
4. What your app is going to be about?
Your app is going to be about Stuart Bathurst Catholic High School and what is in our school.
For example:
Lesson Education,
Teachers,
Map of the school,
Planner of the pupils life,
Subjects,
Lesson Department.
5. What is your app icon page going to
look like?
Your app icon needs to have 4 to 5 pages on what we have discussed as examples on the
previous page. On each of the pages there needs to be a title, a image on what the page is on
like a Stuart Bathurst logo or something and also some text and features of the certain page
that you are talking about.
Each Page should be represented by loads of colour and at least one or two images to show
what you are trying to get across.
However, don’t forget that your page needs to be based on school at Stuart Bathurst so the
students that come to the school will know what it is like by clicking on a simple button to
find out.
6. What your app definitely needs to
have??
Your app should contain the following to allow the app to be published:
1. Bright and Colourful
2. Lots and lots of text and description
3. Quite a few images to show what you are trying to get across
4. Avatar little characters showing what is where and that can help you get around the app
5. Excellent layout to place things in a certain way that can be easy to work the app
appropriately.
7. What your page should look
like?
On the next few pages you are going to see what I want you to be coming up with on the
pages of your app design. Each of the things I use you should be using only the same features
however a different layout and different colours and designs.
Before you even start by making your 4 or 5 pages of your design you need to make up some
kind of a plan to show your ideas and to see how your app icon is going to form in to one
design and app.
8. Lessons and revision
School
Departments
Your planner of
the week
Teachers
Map of
Stuart Bathurst
10. As you can see…
As you can see what I would expect of you do your app icon pages. How I have made it
colourful, used effects to make it look unique, and also I have used some features by adding
in some images and text on the way I have presented it out.
On my two pages is what I expect you to do if you do something similar to this with different
colours, features and layout however maybe the same image you are on the right lines of
having your app published in to a app for the year 7’s to use to guide them through there
year.
