How to Plan and Run Your Digital Transformation WSO2
The document provides guidance on planning and running a digital transformation through an iterative architecture approach. It recommends starting with a minimum viable product and iterating quickly through a plan-build-test-run cycle. Both technical and non-technical ("peopleware") aspects should evolve iteratively. Software systems should follow modular architectures that separate systems of engagement, integration, automation and records. Tools like Scrum, SAFe and TOGAF can help structure the process. Enablers include APIs, open standards, containers and edge technologies. The overall approach is to think big through small iterative steps with rapid feedback.
Red Hat OpenShift Service Mesh allows running multiple Istio control planes on a single Kubernetes cluster without requiring elevated privileges. It installs Grafana, Jaeger, and Kiali by default for observability and removes the need for manual sidecar injection. Version 2.0 updates Istio to 1.6, deprecates some policies and components, and improves certificate management with SDS. The presentation demonstrated how Red Hat OpenShift Service Mesh provides traffic management, policy enforcement, and telemetry collection for microservices without code changes.

stackconf 2021 | Reference Architecture for a Cloud Native Digital EnterpriseNETWAYS
In an era of digital transformation, (digital) enterprises are looking for fast innovation through effective collaboration to deliver more value to their customers with dramatically less effort. Digital enterprises enable companies of every sector to integrate, expose, and monetize their business capabilities by digitizing entire value chains. As a result, APIs have become the norm to expose integrated business functionalities to deliver an enhanced digital experience. Enterprises can start their digital transformation in greenfield or brownfield; in both cases, having a well-defined API-led integration architecture is important. Apart from integration and API platforms, these architectures should be able to provide agility, flexibility, and scalability. This session discusses a vendor/technology-neutral reference architecture for a cloud native digital enterprise to increase productivity by having agility, flexibility, and scalability through automation and services. The architecture discussed in this session can be mapped into different cloud-native platforms (Kubernetes and service mesh), different cloud providers (Microsoft Azure, Amazon AWS, and Google GCP), and infrastructure services to perform the implementation.

The Elephant in the Kubernetes Room - Team Interactions at Scale @ KubeCon No...Manuel Pais
Kubernetes helps us tame sprawling microservices architectures and address increased operational complexity. Kubernetes gives developers abstractions and APIs to deploy and run their services.
Yet, the elephant in the room is that to run, maintain and evolve Kubernetes clusters, we need more ops expertise and most likely a dedicated team to do so.
The question that begs to be asked is if we risk going back to pre-DevOps isolation between Dev and Ops teams? Is the tradeoff between better operational tools and introducing a new dependency layer on the path to production for application teams worthwhile? Are we making life easier for application teams or instead reducing their end-to-end ownership?
Manuel will then introduce Team Topologies, a balanced approach for thinking about teams responsibilities and interactions which can help get the most value out of your Kubernetes adoption.

PuppetConf 2017 | Adobe Advertising Cloud: A Lean Puppet Workflow to Support ...Nicolas Brousse
Building and scaling a multi-cloud solution that's enabled for cloud bursting is not a trivial task, and requires a lot of automation. While experiencing hyper-growth on the Adobe Advertising Cloud, our operations engineering team had to frequently update and improve its workflow in order to stay nimble and allow fast delivery of new infrastructure. At TubeMogul/Adobe Advertising Cloud, we implemented a lean Puppet workflow that enables the operations engineering team to deploy and support a broad range of services in a complex environment that supports hundreds of billions of requests a day. With over 150 changes released per day on its production infrastructure, the team had to adjust and tune its processes to enforce quality, standards, to review, and to prevent systems from breaking. In this talk, you will learn how we implemented our infrastructure as code by leveraging tools like Puppet, Gerrit, Terraform, and Jenkins, which together enable our private and public cloud infrastructures across 12 locations and four continents.

Transport for London: Using data to keep London movingWSO2
This talk was presented by Sriskandarajah Suhothayan (WSO2) and Roland Major (Transport for London) at the Strata Data Conference in London, May 23 2017.
Transport for London (TfL) uses a wide range of data for operational purposes, but the underlying data is typically held in multiple disconnected systems. Freedom of Information requests have helped prove the value of sharing this data. TfL is embarking on a journey to make more of this data open and available in real time.
TfL and WSO2 have been working together on broader integration projects. Roland Major and Sriskandarajah Suhothayan share the evolving big data and IoT architectures and services TfL is building to pull together these diverse datasets to better support operational teams and accelerate the identification and classification of disruption to improve response times for incidents. In particular, they explore WSO2’s solution, which emerged from the Data in Motion hackathon organized by TfL, AWS, and Geovation. The solution innovates TfL’s heterogeneous data sources through the combination of the TfL Unified API and its operational data sources, including traffic sensor, air quality, and passenger flow data, to provide better travel time and transit suggestions for Londoners and tourists using the WSO2 Data Analytics Server, WSO2 Complex Event Processor, and WSO2 API Manager, bringing together IoT and big data techniques to feed a real-time dashboard of current and predicted transport network status.
Implementing Microservices architecture introduces certain operational challenges. One of the most common is: decentralized data management and embedding dependencies. In this talk at APIDays London (Banking APIs) Irakli discussed three powerful tools you can use to help with the challenge.

z Systems redefining Enterprise IT for digital business - Alain PoquillonNRB
IBM z Systems with the new z13 is the backbone infrastructure for the evolving digital era. Built on over 50 years of experience and billions of dollars in developing leading-edge technology, it is at the forefront of modern Information Technology. On different domains. Mr. Poquillon illustrates IBMs’ z13 pre-eminence by highlighting its assets such as its shared-everything approach and centralized management of resources that make it naturally fit for cloud; its hybrid transaction/analytics processing capabilities that provide real-time analytics more efficiently to in-process transactional data, and finally its ability to provide the scale and performance a business needs to survive the mobile and social onslaught.
This document provides an agenda and overview for an event-driven architecture workshop. The workshop will cover topics including event-driven architecture, change data capture, cloud-native integration, how cloud architectures have evolved, modern application elements like APIs, events and data, container-based application development, and integration patterns. Hands-on labs will allow attendees to work with technologies like Apache Kafka and Red Hat AMQ Streams.
The document introduces an evolutionary event-driven architecture called the Enterprise Digital Transformation Platform (EDTP) for accelerating digital transformation. The EDTP is a 4-tier platform based on cloud, containers, microservices, events and streaming. It addresses challenges of data integration and decoupling through architectural concepts like event-driven design, microservices and templates. The EDTP provides full-stack deployment automation and microservice templating to accelerate development. Use cases from Toyota Financial Services are presented to demonstrate the EDTP's capabilities.

Cloud Native Application Integration With APIsNirmal Fernando
Cloud native application architectures focus on building applications as microservices and running them on containers that run on dynamic orchestration platforms and utilize cloud computing functionalities. Agile DevOps and continuous delivery pipelines ensure agility and speed of application development and faster time to market. These systems follow a number of design principles to ensure they are built as loosely coupled services designed for cloud scale and performance.
A core design principle is the use of APIs for application integration. Underlying cloud orchestration layers provide certain functionalities for integration via APIs - be it RESTful or internal formats such as Protbuf, Thrift, gRPC, NATS, etc. APIs thus play an important role for both internal services communications as well as integration between composite apps. A cloud-native API gateway that also provides features of a full lifecycle API Management is key.
In this deep dive workshop, we look at the concepts of cloud-native app integration via APIs which utilize cloud-native API management. We focus on the architecture, design concepts followed by the implementation of API led microservices and then look at the runtime component which includes DevOps, CICD and hybrid clouds.
The document discusses modern approaches to application development for business agility, including microservices architecture and DevOps practices. It summarizes that high-performing organizations deploy code 200x more frequently, have 3x lower failure rates, and recover from failures 24x faster. The document then provides an overview of microservices architecture, challenges with monolithic applications, and how Red Hat technologies can help organizations adopt modern app development practices for the hybrid cloud.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

● Data stores owned and used
exclusively by microservices
● Data only shared by transactional
replication (asynchronous) or APIs
(synchronous)
● No common tier means

(mostly) independent of other
microservices
● Data owned by other modules
often replicated in streaming
