Cooperative Education and Internship Programs—Performance Feedback
Thisform is used to accurately evaluate the peiformance ofthe co-op/intern in your group. As you complete theform,
please include specific examples ofaccomplishments along with general observations. NOTE: Ifyou cannot assess the
individual on a particular skill/attribute, please leave it blank.
Co-opIlntern Name: Nathan Hartmann
Supervisor Name: /?c%1P / /j,7i”/’AZ GroupIDepartment: Maintenance - Pasadena, TX
Client Orientation: (Identifies and understands clients’ needs/meets clients’ expectations.)
Communications: (Listening skills, oral and written skills, fosters open communication, expresses self well in groups and in one-on-
one conversations.)
Nathan took the lead on soliciting three competing quotes for a steel building for long-term storage. His
thoroughness ensured that all vendors were quoting equivalent buildings so we could make an informed descion.
He also gathered input from multiple parties inside and outside of the department that was incorporated into the
building to ensure all safety, environmental and personnel needs were met.
Motivation: (Drives issues to closure, sets high performance standards, pursues aggressive goals and works hard to achieve them.)
Nathan discovered a new alternative for an abrasive catalyst charging valve that has been experiecing frequent
failure. This new style of valve is being evaluated as an option to reduce if not eliminate failure via errosion. This
new valve is expected to reduce maintenace costs through lower repairs costs and fewer call-outs.
Leadership Skills: (Addresses difficult issues, influences others, fosters collaboration, motivates others, challenges the status quo and
champions new ideas and initiatives, manages implementation effectively.)
Nathan effectively lead the approval and implementation of diesel fuel filtering and treatment at our facility.
Treating the diesel fuel tanks was vital to reliable operation of our diesels that are used for backup and safety
systems. He addressed several safety and environmental issues to allow for the procedure to be approved. He
then coordinated with multiple vendors to correctly treat the fuel and to ensure the fuel treatment continues in the
future. A chemical with a reportable quantity (RQ) is no longer stored on site because of his efforts.
Nathan gathered information from maintenance technicians to generate a scope of work to install fan vibration
transmitters on five cooling towers. The current system requires shutting down the unit to adjust or calibrate
vibration switches. The new vibration transmitters will improve accuracy while simplifying the technicians job.

lechnical Knowledge and Abilities: (Possesses and contributes up-to-date knowledge in the profession, accesses and uses other
expert resources when appropriate.)
Nathan identified and then contacted the engineering firm who designed and supplied a vessel that was
experiencing structural problems. He coordinated with a representative to come on-site and evaluate the system.
Through his efforts the problem has now been addressed as we no longer experience any anchor bolt failures.
Administrative Skills: (Develops or helps to develop short and long range plans that are appropriately comprehensive, realistic andeffective in meeting goals, coordinates work efforts when necessary, manages meetings effectively, allocates time efficiently.)
Nathan’s ability to complete and track multiple tasks has improved significantly during the past few months. He is able to
quickly provide the status of a task and what he is doing to complete the next step.
Interpersonal Skills: (Relates to people in an open, friendly, accepting manner, develops effective give-and-take relationships withothers, brings substantive conflict and disagreements into the open and attempts to resolve them collaboratively, builds consensus.)
Nathan gets along well with all employees and vendors.
Primary Contribution(s): (Please be specific.)
Diesel tank filtering and catalyst charging valve as described above.
Stronaest Attribute(s):
Driven engineer that is hard working and resourcefuilness.
Asks appropriate questions when necessary.
Development Opportunities:
Nathan will continue to grow as he progresses towards his engineering degree.
